  1. That Treebeard is special! The parts usage was cool too (the owl especially). Lots of great entries overall though, fun to look through them all. On another note, I talked to my local Lego store this past week and asked how Rivendell was selling. I was told it is still selling a few each shipment after the initial sell out. I think that is some good news for overall sales if they are still selling fairly regularly. Hopefully we will start hearing real leaks about the theme coming back for real.
  2. Awesome, your looks great (and I think I saw it on the submission page), mine was rejected for photos too (about the same quality). I had to retake everything and resubmitted but it made it on the page this morning. https://ideas.lego.com/challenges/58660122-6eea-44ec-bfb4-a0d26f4015fa/application/1f314752-cc82-4b07-a353-a62524b7b4b6. This was my first MOC, and first Ideas submission, lots of fun to do, I don't expect to win seeing some of the newest entries, but it was still a fun competition.
  3. This was my first submission to ideas, and I learned how hard it was to take a decent picture (all the glare). I used a sheet between the light source and the MOC to get a picture that I could submit. It seemed to work but is not a great picture (especially compare to all the photoshopped ones). I had fun with it, I don't think ill win but I liked my idea and am the only one to submit it (so far at least). I submitted (today so it probably won't be there for a day or two) a diorama scene where Gandalf tells Frodo about Pity, but I titled it Follow your Nose. Pretty happy with how it turned out, but there are some crazy good builds out there.
  4. I agree, but mostly because I am building one for real (and have all my brick link orders in now to finish it up in the next few days). Seeing some of the digital editing makes me realize I cannot touch the color schemes (or effects like the lights in the balrog), would be nice to give the real brick built its own category to make up for some of the differences there. On the bright side, so far at least, I haven't seen anyone submit my idea though there is still time.
  5. I like the Balrog Gandalf scene with the orange bricks representing the light on the rocks. Thought that part was pretty slick. Disappointed too because I am working on a MOC for the challenge and realized mine would not be that good, but still will submit once done.
  6. Does anyone think that Lego will answer if Rivendell sold well enough to make more sets (like a definitive statement) or do you all think we will just be in limbo till next year and maybe get a leak of a new set like Baradu Due or line (or not). I am hoping since lego has essentially publicly told us that this needs to sell well if we want more LOTR (designer reviews, and multiple ambassador reviews state this - about as public a declaration as we can get) then we would also get some type of public announcement that yes it sold well enough to get more. Probably too much to hope for that Lego would provide a public follow up on sales after they indicated they would not make more sets without sales.
  7. I agree they (should) do minis tirith and meduseld before a remake of bag end (I am for a remake especially if it includes a party tree just after we get the new places). I know they mentioned Meduseld in that same interview, but skipping minis Tirith for a remake would be so sad in case they end the theme again without any Gondor. I won’t mind as much if they have a way to get minifigs for Gondor but after the last series I want Gondor prioritized (a battle pack would be good with three soldiers and one of the tree guards :) ).
  8. I think there was some intentional design to make it fit and feel like the old LOTR sets. It fits right in with most of them (just a lot bigger and nicer). I appreciate that it does not feel out of place next to Orthanc, or helms deep. The use of sand green and grey in particular make me think this.
  9. Do we think Rivendell sold well enough (and will continue to) to get more LOTR sets. my top five 1) Rivendell 2)Orthanc 3) helms deep (but I combined two and modified which is cheating for the list) 4) Vaders meditation chamber (love that one for some reason) 5) great wave (my first art set which has inspired some Mocs)
  10. Bummer, I try to do my pick a brick orders against 2xVIP but the deadline with the LOTR ideas challenge means I need to order by the 22nd at the latest.
  11. Anyone know when the next 2X VIP points is going to be? I need some pick a brick to complete my LOTR Idea challenge submission. Was hoping for a 2 VIP event for my order (no standard parts order as they take too long so I have two brick link orders to go along with it).
  12. We are going to say that about a lot of sets in the near future (doesn’t feel like $15, $20, $50, etc.). Case in point mechs and new micro fighter. None of it feels like 15 or 16 because it was 10 last year (Or even in January). I think Rivendell is a $450 set if it was released last year but it is the first big set we are all interested in this year and we are feeling the price hikes from Lego.
  13. Very cool challenge, I can't wait to see everything submitted. I noticed that to. I am wondering if it has something to do with the licensing rights to LOTR movies, vs. the Hobbit. He also is not mentioned by name in the instructions either.
  14. If true I’ll buy another one next year. Should know by the end of the year though.
  15. I like the IVAR system from Ikea for displaying Lego, very modular and offers two depths in the U.S. to use.
  16. Good news, just checked Lego.com and saw it on back order! I am thinking we will get more LOTR (factoring in more people waiting for better VIP points or GWP or saving up etc.)
  17. So, I like the new Ed hair a lot, with the notable exception of Legolas. I used the Legolas hair on haldir from helms deep which was an improvement for both. now that I am done building all I want is more of the mini figs for multiple scenes. I also might rebuild the shards of narsil section as a standalone somewhere else. Just because it is hard to see on display but I want to keep Rivendell together.
  18. Same, almost done (tonight hopefully). I enjoyed a mix of the movies and audio books while building. The build is excellent though. I love all the oh that’s why they did that moments while building.
  19. I’m at bag 29 and going to resume building tomorrow. A few thoughts about the build so far. the roof tiles (at least for the first building) were actually pretty enjoyable. It is satisfying watching them all get aligned with the recommended build process. the elf hair looks way better in person than the photos. I will still swap Legolas for the old one but the new hair actually looks good. I switched sams hair with a spare bilbo hair and I liked it much better. the mini figures have all been excellent and are at least on par if not improved in some areas. the floor tiles look so nice. Build techniques have been fun throughout, trees look better in person than the pictures. love the set and building it has been fun (I also watched fellowship and part of two towers while building). my favorite part about the set is it feels a lot like the old sets. I noticed some brick choices and build parts that reminded me of the old LOTR. I am very happy the designers went this route as it fits with the other sets from ten years ago just at a grander scale. This has been my biggest surprise building and my favorite part. I hope it sells well to get more LOTR sets.
  20. anyone else have some missing pieces? I have one missing piece in bag 14, and I think I have a second one in bag 21. That is as far as I am with the build.
  21. Got it this morning. I was seventh in line. They had 21 total sets (at least ten sold while I was there so hoping all 21 sold). The strangest thing was somebody waiting in line bought the hogwarts castle after waiting with all the Rivendell folks. been building for an hour while watching the movies. Great way to build and it was been a good build so far, nothing repetitive yet.
  22. What is the second GWP? I just knew the Frodo and gollum. also congrats! I am excited to pick one up tomorrow.
  23. I really wish they had done a better GWP. Disappointing that they picked a set on the shelves (and most LOTR fans who wanted it probably already bought it) and the worst of the three LOTR brickheadz sets too.
  24. Quiet in here lately. Everyone getting ready for a big purchase? I called my Lego store and they said they have quite a few sets. I’ll be there an hour before they open so hopefully the crowd is good but closer to opening than when I get in line. Would like to see it sell out on day one.
  25. Yes, my understanding is nothing is hidden inside the tower, it appears to be where BIlbo's desk is and Elrond's book shelf from the reviews. There is the one part at the base of the tower but there are no hidden features in there.
