These a great! Please keep them coming. You have a nice eye for setting up the interior shot and I can't wait to see more of the rooms. If you're looking for ideas I always thought Batman and Harry Potter made a good team. Maybe having an argument over whose parents are in the mirror. ;-) Tohst

Hogwarts Front Flickr Page I've gotten my front facade of Hogwarts to the point I'm willing to share it. Comments and criticism are always welcome. Tohst

The Torrent is better. I love that ship. The RGS is better. This being just a version of that that wouldn't be very exciting without the walker. The AT-TE is better. This being just a version of that that wouldn't be very exciting without the dropship. Ane if we expand outside of Clone Wars, It may not even be in the top fifteen Star Wars sets. But I do like it. -Tohst

If they did this there is a chance the replacements would be better than the originals. Seriously, replace the guns with a magnitized grapple gun (which they can't do in the US anymore because of magnet panic), and add another one of the standard jail pods. I'd be importing from the UK (as well as buying the version here. I'm such a sucker) -Tohst

So, last time this happened if I'm remembering correctly was Vikings and Dino Attack where they weren't going to release Vikings to North America or DA to Europe. Lego eventually changed their mind and Vikings came to NA and Dino Attack was modified for European sensibilities. Hopefully, thats the case again. Both for our European friends and also because non-worldwide lines just don't seem to last as long and I want the return of space to continue full speed ahead. So, does Europe get something this time in place of SPIII? I mean besides Castle Advent calendars. As awesome as that was it hardly compares to a whole line. -Tohst

Awesome! *hands over the internet he won earlier* -tohst

I wonder what this guys thoughts on SPIII is. 1 and 2 are tucked in there. Will his collection now be incomplete or do new sets not count? Its a nice collection. -Tohst Edited for grammar correction.

Do we have any real evidence that the line was 'killed' because it failed? My impression was always that it simply ran its course. One year with a major release of sets and a follow-on minor release. And they weren't even going to bring it to the US originally because we wouldn't be interested at all. But anyway, I loved the vikings. I liked the brick built monsters. The whole theme was a little over reliant on the spring shooters but to me that was better than just having one piece shooters everywhere. As with all the themes I would've liked some non martial sets but again, I understand what they are doing in the market. And compared to Knights Kingdom II which was the Castle theme at the time, the solid designs of the Vikings sets really shone. Lastly, it was something different. Like Ninjas before it, it added new pieces and minifigures to a Castle landscape that usually gives you the same castle, drawbridge, and cart sets with the same swordsman, axeman, and bowman. I do wish they would've had beards like the prototypes. But now I have them from the dwarves. Its all good. -Tohst

I have to agree that listening to criticism is just as interesting as praise. People like different things. I'm interested in why it distresses you. I can tell you why unwavering praise distresses me. Criticism helps a company and its product get better. Now, just saying 'this sucks' doesn't help anyone. But I want Lego Space to continue to impress and continue to improve. And I want Lego to get the message that when they do jelly aliens that have no arms the fans are going to beat them up about it. And look at the aliens we're getting now. One of them has extra arms to help make up for the Mars Mission aliens. Good job complaining fans! Criticism in a forum like this can also help people with their building as they might see the same things Lego is being criticized for in their on MOCs and decide to rectify it. Or just as easily think to themselves they disagree and like whatever is being discussed. But you want a specific criticism. As much as I like the 4 armed alien, I wish the arms were uniform, either droid arms or mini-fig arms. The combination fo both is a little weird. My preference would've been exo-force robot arms for all 4. Those were useful pieces (trying to incorporate them into my robot horses now) and with exo-force going the way of the dinosaurs they don't appear in enough sets for my liking. -Tohst

I am now picturing the bad guys getting away as the SP Chuck Norris clones argue who is tougher and round house kick each other. -Tohst

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090436/ Space cowboys. Kinda like Cowboy Beebop but taking the cowboy literally and not metaphorically. Oh and for an audience five to ten years younger. So, actual robot horses. Well, Lego robot horses. -Tohst (getting more building ideas...still having no time to build)

You may be the first person who when I complain about droid treatment in Star Wars (and its complimentary argument that RD-D2 was a jedi) to accuse me of being serious. To pull back to Space Police...I really was expecting flashy police costumes. But what we got looks like they may be good for Town SWAT use. And the second MOD I'm going to make to the Galactic Enforcer after removable jail cells (if they already don't come off) is a row of K-9 launchers. What's the use of having robotic dogs if you can't launch them at perps. And if they would make robot horses, we could do the Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers... -Tohst - drifting...drifting....righting...drifting

and reminds me of PCS SLAM http://www.flickr.com/photos/fazoom/3200677268/ which is a good thing even if the SLAM has a cleaner design. -Tohst

Aliens aren't real? Next you'll be telling me the pyramids were built by humans and the US dollar bill doesn't have a coded message on it. I guess I was generalizing the 'things that don't look like me must be bad' message. Which would be mitigated with just one or two good guy aliens. Star Wars had Chewbacca and....ummm...wow, pretty slim pickings past him, ummm, Admiral Ackbar. But then again, I also wince at how the Star Wars universe treats droids. They are just machines! But wait, personality and sapient thought. Look at what R2 just did! Oh never mind, take them to get their minds wiped. Again, think of the children who will absorb that attitude and stick their sandwich into the DVD player because its just a machine From a practical standpoint, at least for me. Making the aliens so diverse and all bad makes it that much more expensive to buy as many aliens as you would need to design an alien town. I guess Bricklink is my friend. -Tohst

These are the aliens I would've loved back in the day instead of the UFO aliens and insectoids. Especially Squidman. 4 arms would have made great Insectoids, no? So, having seen more and better pictures, I still don't like the hot rod. Too racers. On the other hand, I love the cargo truck. I'm sorry, the Spaaaaaace Cargo Truck. So, maybe its not the style I don't like, just that particular hot rod. Anyway, so, the jail cells on the Galactic Enforcer. There is some sort of mechinism that they pop open when you hit a certain place to 'free' their captives. Or just kill them in the coldness of space. Thats one way to shut up an informer. Anyway, first thing I'm going to do if its not already there is make them removable. That was one awesome thing in SPI and SPII and it looks like they may have gotten rid of it for a play feature. Understandable. I still see the SP vehicles themselves as on par with the better Mars Mission vehicles, just with a better secondary color. I hope all the cockpits hinge open. Wow, does this line need more impulse sets so I can get a reasonable number of those new aliens. Does it bother anyone else that all aliens are criminal and the space police all human? What kind of message is that? Think of the children? -Tohst

THE OLD Official Eurobricks Straightshooters List
Tohst replied to The Middleman's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Boonetrooper was an excellent seller - +1 Thanks, Tohst -
I know I noticed. I had just put together the mini-star destroyer and it looked, well, wrong. And then I put it next to the full sized UCS set and my first thought was 'well, someone made a bad batch of grey'. Now that I've had a few years to think about the change...I really don't like it. It could've been handled so much better. The difference in light grey is so slight to me as to be barely noticable. But as such, why do it at all? How can you say kids (or anyone) like the new color better if the majority of people can't tell the difference? But when you do notice it in a creation with mixed pieces, the effect is usually detrimental. And dark grey. I really really wished they had just added 'gun metal' grey and left old dirty 'stone grey' alone. I don't feel the new color works well for stone or anything earthy. But for metal, its great. Sure, a lot of us at this point would be complaining how hard it is to get pieces in just the right color if they had kept both colors but I, personally, would be happier. And thats what counts, isn't it? -Tohst

Thanks for the review. I like this version of the jedi starfighter much more than the Episode II triangle one. If they put out the full rainbow spectrum of them I would get them. I don't think the blue one from the hyperdrive ring set is any better. It just has a couple of changes for compatibility. Maybe Lego remembers 2000-2003 (and even later) where you could find the old vulture droids at 3 for $10. To be honest, I'm hoping the Hyena Droid eventually ends up on clearance like that or at least 30% off. Yes, I'm being a scavenger waiting for the Hyena to be dead. Apropos, no? -Tohst

I'm 35 so, yes, I gravitate more to the OT. However, I'm old enough to have friends that have kids that like Star Wars (my own is still a little young at 1 month). And I see the same spectrum in kids that I do in adults. Some like the new stuff, some like the old stuff. Many like everything and would be as happy with a Luke as with an Anakin. It is definately more tilted towards the newer stuff than amongst adults but even the ones that are hyper Clone Wars addicts know who Luke is. However, to pull this perhaps a little back to topic. KimT, yes, it makes a lot of sense for the kid collectors to have the minifigs in the Y-wing be those three principal characters. However, and this is something I argue about all the time, wouldn't it make more sense to absorb the cost of throwing in a pilot or something like that so there is more appeal to the adult collector...in addition. Like the old AT-AT. Another Luke Pilot figure. Yawn for me. Exciting for a parent or kid. 2 Snowtroopers and an AT-AT driver. May or may not add excitement for the parent or kid but I'm buying multiple copies. Side note: If my kid doesn't like Star Wars at all I think I may cry. -Tohst - Give me a break, I'm a new dad. Everything comes around to the kid.

Wow. Nice Find. The two anniversary sets thrill me more than any of the Clone Wars stuff. The 2008 Summer sets really seem to have been the best of them (so far). Interesting to see how the big ship opens up. Oh look. Another set with Anakin and Ahsoka (or whatever her name is). I understand it from a marketing perspective but can't they throw us a bone and just add a random clone or something? -Tohst
-
Yeah, I'm not surprised Harry Potter is a no go. It didn't make much sense with no sets on the shelves for synergy. Its also too bad. I'd have loved an HP game or even just more sets. -Tohst

Megabloks Pyrates and Pirates of the Caribbean Sets
Tohst replied to Akkhraziel's topic in LEGO Pirates
Oh, I think there are quite a few Castle fans that don't like the fantasy aspects added in. I, for one, love them and would welcome Ghost Pirates. The trick is (and to be clear I think Lego is doing this quite well in the Castle sets) is to offer both sets that are all or mostly realistic (like the Market Village in castle) along side the fantasy ones. So, if people just don't want fantasy they can still get their fix. Then again, I would think it would be silly for a pirate fan to see a ghost ship and not buy it because the mini-figs were ghosts after all these years of wanting the hulls, the cutlasses, the masts, and all the other pirate trappings they would still be able to get out of it. Plus, in a non-pirate capacity, if they made translucent mini-figs I think a lot of collectors would want them even if they weren't pirate fans. A win - win. (win-win-win? No! Just a win-win) -Tohst -
Well, I don't love it. Yeah, if I wanted Lego racers, I would have bought lego racers. And this comes from someone that liked the cars in the Speed Racer sets. It actually reminds me a lot of Bounty Hunter Pursuit which didn't do much for me. But I'm not as cranky as you sound. Newer canopies in old trans-blue is good. The mini-fig we've seen is good. It looks as if the space police vehicle will have some good pieces such as the rounds on the front. But yeah, gone is the epic struggle of SPI and SPII against the Blacktron menance. Instead, Officer Friendly is pulling over an innocent gold courier for expired tags. Then again, we've only seen initial pictures of one set. Agents surprised me in their final form so maybe the rest of the line up will live up to the greatness of SPI, SPII, and yes, Star Justice (which I loved). -Tohst

In the new attack shuttle sets, all 2 x 6 light grey plates were weird. They were just slightly lighter than the other light grey pieces. Sort of pearly if you know what I mean. The lego stamp on top of the studs was barely there as well. As if the plastic mix for these pieces wasn't quite right. Some of the other one-off quality control things haven't bothered me too much but this really seems like a slip in basic brick quality to me. Anyone else seeing similar control issues? -Tohst The least they could've done is thrown in a chrome vader if the normal pieces were inferior, right?
