I really liked the B-models for their often very creative and unusual mechanisms or part usage. I found them very inspiring sometimes, especially on small to medium sets. Some B-models were even more interesting to me than their A-model (looking at you 8464) I have to say though that recently the B-models were less interesting (except for something like 42121) so I did not bouild them as often as before. It feels like them beeing gone now is just the endpoint of the lost interest in them.

Wow! This is brilliant. I thought about building something with a distribution gearbox as well but this is just on a whole new level. To use the shifter motor with a secondary directional mode to have two distribution gearboxes is mervelous... also the mechanism for the turntable is so simple but well thought out... I might have to copy that for a future project ;) Really well done!

Technic General Discussion

It really is a shame. I always liked the honesty and the clear presentation in his videos. While I sometimes disagreed with some of his points of view, I always liked his sarcastic humor. I often found myself surprised after watching his reviews and bought sets I would have skipped otherwise... -
Nice idea, looking forward to that contest! Two questions regarding color scheme: 1 - does it have to be pure orange or is the color "flame yellowish orange" form 42099 also ok? 2 - would it be ok (for example for a tracked vehicle) to have an undercarriage or other functional areas in mostly DBG but the upper and most visible parts in white or orange?

I doubt there will be a dragline excavator, at least not a flagship one, because of how they work. The digging works mostly by gravity and having the bucket being dragged through stuff at a certain angle. Regular excavators or loaders already work quite poorly as Lego models because the stuff you dig is mostly smaller pieces that roll everywhere. A dragline is even worse in that regard. Also playability would suffer from the very slow speed you unwind the cables with (even worse effects than on a hydraulic to LA conversion) unsless Lego makes it some clever mechanism to let the bucket drop by disengaging the drive from the cable drum and let it spin free (in that case it would be a cool set for this mechanism alone)...

Grum's Shed
Saruzeufel replied to grum64's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I just tried it out for you and sadly the gearbox induces so much friction into the system that with this swapped gearing (assuming you ment step 386, not page) the single motor is barely able to move the actuators. It is now much much slower and at times the motor stalls completely. Maybe this works with some of these powerful rechargable NiZn batteries that provide higher voltage than regular batteries, but I would not count on it working well either. -
Generic Contest Discussion

Exactly why I would dislike voting with a "make a list and rank all entries" approach. There is bound to be a few entries you do not really like and would rather say nothing about than having to assign a "last place" to it. to me it would be already hard enough to pick a selection of winning entries and assign points (to the point where I might not actually vote because of that) but adding extra difficulty by having to rank all entries would just end in shuffling the list around for ages until I abandon it allttogether or the deadline passes. About the jury voting: I really liked the little feedback/ explanation why they ended on the podium. Makes you appreciate them even more -
The fact that there is no reservoir makes it a lot more maintenance though. different temperature means the volume of the fluid changes a bit. Also the cylinders are made for air so they will leak over time, meaning you have to keep topping up the fluid. I wonder how well the hose in the pump holds up over time... constantly getting squeezed like that will surely weaken it sooner or later.

I have to say I would also like to know my own score just for the sake of knowing how bad I did and where to improve for next time. Other than that I fully agree that the contest was fun and very doable! Judging it will already be hard enough with so many good entries and tough decisions to make with scoring.

[MOC] Liebherr LR 636 G8

Overwhelming attention to detail, this looks fantastic! Really like how well the system peices are blended with functional technic elements. Seems to be very sturdy as well. Also construction equipment (especially the uncommon ones like this) are always great. Very well done. -
Only set so far that has me somewhat excited is the tiny bulldozer to put next to my 42055. Not a fan of John Deere so the forage harvester falls a bit flat for me even though I love agricultural machines. Where is the construction equipment? Something with proper functions and not just a 10€ an 11€ set with a twisty knob... Glad everyone else seems to be hyped, I'll just wait and see what the August wave brings and hope to not be let down like 2023.

Lego 42125 clicking gears
Saruzeufel replied to TechDecker's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Diff looks ok on the video, mostly looks weird because of the high stress the pieces are under. Does the fake engine spin freely if you disconnect it from the diff? It looked like the engine stopped in the same spot (when the crankshaft is horizontal in the engine I think). -
[TC25] 8479 Barcode Truck

Fantastic conversion from studded to studless! Can't wait to see the mechanisms work on the finished truck. Really great idea to turn barcode into gear racks -
[TC25] 8464 B-Model

Thank you for the advice, I think this helped a little. Took some more pictures and the details are a bit more visible (I hope). I slightly overhauled the the area around the pump and added some additional guides for the hoses so they get stuck less often. Also original tyre from the 8464 set for scale:
