  1. The differnetial looks like it is crooked. Is it installed properly and are the gears inside it properly on their axles? Try holding one wheel and turning the other to test it
  2. You mean the one for the pneumatic valve? Yeah, I am a bit unhappy with that too but I could not find a better way to fit the valve and those hoses into the small space available. I tried to replicate the original version with the connector on the side to use the pneumatics. sadly using a 2L axle did not work because the valve has almost no friction so it just fell out. I'll try and find a room with better light and different background and take more pictures. My phone's camera is not the best, I know.
  3. Oh yeah, forgot to mention: it is shrunk to around 60% (determined by the wheels). The steering works OK-ish if you grab the half bushing or only apply little force to it. I thought about using that cone piece (I originally thought the round one had axle grooves too but I was mistaken) but as you said, it would look even less authentic... very conflicted on that piece
  4. For my first contest I participate in I decided to recreate my absolute favorite christmas present ever, the B-model of the 8464 (also sold as 8439 or 8459). It is some weird machine that resembles a skidder crosssed with a log loader. It has more or less all the functions of the original: fake V6 engine with moving pistons (driven in the original set by the front wheels only), articulated streering with HOG in the beacon (had to get creative and add the yellow half bush to grab onto, because the rest turns freely on the axle), pneumatic claw with a gear mechanism (those hoses are a nightmare on this small scale, they refuse to bend...) and a function to raise and lower the arm with a linkage to create the weird angles (had to swap from pneumatics to gear driven, because there was neither space, nor did I have a second mini cylinder... and the force required to lower the arm is quite high due to the hoses not bending well, so the pneumatic version would have struggled anyway). I also tried my best to recreate the interesting design of the original (especially the front with many fancy shapes and angles). Any constructive criticism welcome, I really struggled with some parts of the design and feel like I could have done better but perfectionism and frustration are starting to kick in so I decided to stop here and get some feedback.
  5. Don't think those are stoppers, rather looks like the pins connecting the gear rack quarters with some caps on them so it does not look unfinished
  6. Thank you for the correction. I did not research enough into cranes.
  7. That is not true. The O&K RH400 (after beeing renamed due to beeing bought from one company to another like 20 times now called "CAT 6090") is still heavier and has a larger bucket volume than the Liebherr R9800, with CAT working on an even larger prototype. Also the Komatsu D575A is a larger bulldozer than the CAT D11. This crane is is the largest in the world, the other things are not.
  8. Three questions: (1) do smaller builds (= more % shrinkage) yield higher score or is it negligible wether it is 30% or 50% shrunk? (2) would swapping from pneumatics to mechanical functions for size reasons lower the "staying true to the original" score or be considered neutral for it beeing a necessity to achieve (1)? (3) does adding a function the original should have had (but was missing in the set) reduce (for beeing less similar to the original) or increase (more functional/ creative) the overall score?
  9. tell amazon support that you received a heavily damaged box, containing fake parts and if they still do not refund you, just say it was supposed to be a gift for your nephew. They usually refund the full amount and you can keep the junk
  10. I had not seen the high res image, you are absolutely right.
  11. Look at the engine as well, there is a loose DBG bushing laying around that fell off from the engine
  12. I was considering the same. Looking forward to how you will tackle providing the claw's LA with power but having the claw still swing freely (motor inside the claw will be too bulky I reckon)
  13. Pretty much what I wrote on page 1 of this thread but I did not want to type it out again...
  14. Skidders usually do not have this feature IRL... so not having a rotation function is more realistic.
  15. That's a blade meant for pushing/ rolling around logs, light grading and supporting the skidder in rough terrain while grabbing logs. To me it looks like another grey cylinder attached to it somewhat hidden behind the panels.
  16. Really impressed. Looks rough and boxy just like the real thing, seems to have all the functions (even openable doors from what it looks like), nice new pieces. Nothing to complain apart from the price beeing a bit high. Nice to see Technic beeing (what I consider) proper Technic!
  17. The spacing for the holes from techicbrick to liftarm to technicbrick is only like 2.8 units, not the full 3 you would expect. You cannot connect the two technicbricks from hole to hole as there is a slight offset. Tried taking pictures, but my camera is bad DSC_2224 DSC_2223
  18. His anti-Lego attitude makes him even less trustworthy when it comes to Lego since he tends to overreact on anything he can portray negatively or sometimes just makes it up. Not to mention beeing "good friends" with some people behind some of Lego's competition.
  19. It says 3 movements OF (not AND) the gripper. But I agree, let's wait for pictures or at least a proper description.
  20. Nope, it can move: 1) up/down, 2) forwards/backwards and 3) claw open/closed. These claws usually only have a "return to center" function to some degree or none at all for rotation.
  21. From what I can see you made a mistake at instruction step 117 and put the limiter for the gear selector 180° turned to what it should be.
