LEGO Star Wars 2022 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
QuiggoldsPegLeg replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I’m not talking about Star Wars in the 80s, and I’m not talking about other media companies. I’m talking about the current state of Star Wars. The Lucasfilm Story Group and writers like Jon Favreau aren’t making their story decisions based on marketing. If they cared about that they wouldn’t have done nearly enough to prevent Grogu from leaking and missing out on a bunch of merch sales in the first few months after the premiere of the Mandalorian. Obviously money plays a factor in everything, but once the creators get the green-light on a project, they aren’t going to remove that project because they can’t make enough toys for the media. And like I said before, sales of a specific toy have absolutely no effect on anything due to the fact that they’re so insignificant in the grand scheme of things, and are only available years after decisions have already been made. -

Lucasfilm doesn’t make decisions of what content they’re creating based on toy sales. Making the toys sell is the job of the marketing team and toy companies, and completely separate from the storytellers at Lucasfilm. Not to mention the fact that by the time they get the statistics on how a toy sells, the next part of a project is already 2 to 3 years deep into development (or more when it comes to animation). -

No rumours about Kenobi as of yet, but if they follow the formula they’ve used for every other Star Wars Disney+ show, I’d guess that one or two Kenobi sets will come out on August 1st to tie-in to the release of the show, with a possibility of more later on down the line. -

Not sure what image everyone is talking about, but I agree about this being a good use of the minidolls. The only problem is the minidoll heads have moulded noses, which wouldn’t work on Kaminoans, so they’d have to create a new mould for the head. Also if they are using minidolls for Kaminoans, that opens the door for potentially doing something more accurate for Geonosians, with bodies more like Grievous or the B1s and not normal minifig parts. -

Maybe it was more prominent back in the 80s when The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi first came out, because when I think of iconic ships in Star Wars, the Nebulon B isn’t even in the top 20 for me. Although I’m not sure why it would be more popular back then, because AFAIK there wasn’t any toys of it and things that take up a smaller amount of screen time would be less known because people didn’t have a way to watch back the movie beyond buying a VHS a year later. As an obsessive Star Wars fan I obviously know what the Nebulon B is now, but as a kid I definitely didn’t notice the ship until I’d been well into my fandom. (I knew most of the names of the minor characters in the movies at that point) I think 75303 was the rumoured set number for the UCS Gunship way back when, but that didn’t end up being the case. It’s almost certainly just a skipped set number at this point. Brickset probably forgot to remove it after the sets were revealed. -

Why that high though? That would make it tied for the 5th most expensive UCS set yet. The design, while unique, is pretty uninteresting, and other than a few small ships in the background appeared in one scene in the entire Saga. Like you’re saying about the Death Star, UCS sets are for the most part designed to be appealing to casual Star Wars fans who may not have thought much about Lego, and I’m sure most casual Star Wars fans don’t even know what the Nebulon B Frigate is. I can’t see them being able to make money off of such an expensive product that won’t even have much interest in the Lego Star Wars community, let alone Star Wars fans. The only way it would work would be for it to have a limited number released, which just isn’t how Lego operates with big sets like this. -

A UCS Nebulon probably wouldn’t be that large in terms of mass/price due to both the nature of its shape, and the fact that I can’t see there being much interest in it. I think the maximum is $200 USD (+$10 to $20 for inflation) would make sense, where it has around the same amount of pieces, but due to the nature of the design, has a larger footprint than the A-Wing/Y-Wing/Snowspeeder/Slave I/TIE Fighter. And even then they might go a bit smaller, since the ship is a lot more niche than any of the other sets I’ve mentioned. -

$530 is way too much for a Nebulon B. That would be one of the worst selling Lego Star Wars sets of all time due to the high price and low interest. Jabba’s Sail Barge works as a UCS set in that price range at minifigure scale (like the Falcon and AT-AT). Other than that, for UCS sets at that price point people have talked about a Death Star 2, but I personally think that they wouldn’t make it that large. I 100% agree. If they wanted to make a big Endor set, they’re better off making an Ewok Village and an Imperial Bunker separately. The landing platform is way too large and uninteresting to work in any official Lego set larger than micro-scale. -

Unless the rumours are wrong about the time frames, I think the only sets that are supposed to be out after August are 75331 ($530 USD), 75340 ($40 USD), 75341 ($60 USD), and the Advent Calendar. So August 1st definitely seems to be the time. -

The N1 is on Lego.com, but they clearly weren’t planning on revealing it today. (Due to the fact that it doesn’t come out until June, and it doesn’t have a name on the site yet.) https://www.lego.com/en-ca/product/tbd-ip-lsw6-2022-75325 -

I’m fine with people having valid criticisms, but sharing them on a Lego forum hardly has any effect on “improvement”. If you have legitimate criticisms that are potentially harmful real world ideas like how the Tuskens are portrayed and their fates, that’s a valid discussion. (Albeit not on a Lego forum) But if you just don’t like the look of speeder bikes that people are riding, just keep it to yourself. If it really ruins the show that much for you, just don’t watch it. Just because the creators have different tastes than you doesn’t mean you need to campaign for them to make different decisions. The creators are going to create their stories whether specific fans like it or not, and you can choose to engage with it or not. But because you didn’t like something don’t try to spread your negativity and ruin other people’s enjoyment of it. Trying not to get my hopes up too high, but if this is true, I’d be ecstatic. And if it’s being rumoured now, my guess is it’s the 3rd May set that we don’t know what it is (around $90 USD). -

And there goes another place where I thought I wouldn’t have to deal with people complaining about Star Wars. Can we not just celebrate what we enjoy about Star Wars and feel free to ignore what we don’t? -

She’s also barely taller than a Jawa, who they give short legs to. They should use the legs based on height, not age. -

Why on earth does Pelli not have mid-legs? Do the Star Wars designers forget that piece exists? While the Pelli minifig looks good (other than the legs) this set is a definite pass for me. The build doesn’t look good and none of the figs other than Pelli are a draw at all. -

It’s called inflation. Sure Lego Star Wars is expensive, but it’s always been expensive. And now it’s just getting incrementally more expensive, like everything else in the world we live in. Well I really hope we get more Book of Boba Fett sets a year from now with some much needed characters like Krrsantan, the Mods, and the Gamorreans. Anyways, it sounds like a great set. Sad that it probably means no Fallen Order sets (at least for now) but I’m glad we’re getting a Pelli fig, and this is definitely a must-buy for myself and I’m sure a lot of other people. -

I’d much rather get an accurate sized build than a worse, smaller build like the TIE, X-Wing, and Slave I. It’s just a fact that Lego is expensive, and inflation has been even higher than normal due to the pandemic. And the last Naboo Starfighter was $50 USD 7 years ago, which means this definitely isn’t out of line. -

In your opinion. As a massive Tatooine (especially Jabba’s Palace) fan, I absolutely adored the show. I 100% agree. Although no one has confirmed that this character is actually Rystáll, and this Theelin seems to have a different skin tone, which makes sense, since Human-Theelin hybrids are common. I definitely would have preferred if they had made the Theelin and Quarren more similar to Rystáll and Tessek so they could be used in Jabba’s Palace as well as this set. (Even if they aren’t 100% accurate to the scene.) That would be amazing. Throw a Droopy McCool and J’Quille in there as well. Unfortunately since Ephant Mon and Sy Snootles weren’t on the Sail Barge, it’s unlikely we ever get them in Lego unless they give us them in a future Palace set years down the line. -

I wouldn’t call this one bigger or better, but it is an adequate slightly downsized version. I’d absolutely love to get a bacta tank add-on, but that doesn’t really fit the price of any of the rumoured sets, plus I don’t think that roof looks like it is meant to be added on to. It’s probably due to the stupid “controversy” from a few years ago that they won’t include the roof. Which is unfortunate. I’m lucky I have the 2012 Palace though. -

One is just The Rise of Skywalker Finn. If that means we’re getting another Rise of Skywalker set I’d be ecstatic, but it very well could just be the old figure. I’m not sure about the other character. Maybe it’s a background alien, maybe from another theme. Edit: The 2nd fig might be from Obi-Wan Kenobi, which would explain why I don’t recognize the design. That looks like it’s probably a custom meant to look as close as possible to what a Lego one would look like. I’m 99% sure it’s fake. -

AFAIK 75343 isn’t a set number for this year. 75338 is supposed to be $45 USD, and was rumoured to be the Advent Calendar, but there are conflicting reports on that. I’m pretty sure the Trash Compactor is rumoured to be 75339 though. -

Well Fennec is a major character who’s bound to show up more in both the Bad Batch and Mandalorian/Book of Boba Fett, so it’s hardly the same. We’re definitely getting her helmet in Lego again. And like Brickbob Studpants said, it would be weird for a new character mould to be exclusive to a buildable figure. -

We’ll likely get one set for each show this year, then more next year once the Lego designers have access to the whole show. That’s been the case for every single Disney+ season so far, where they release 1 set to coincide with the new season, (AT-ST Raider, AAT, Trouble on Tatooine, Bad Batch Attack Shuttle) and a handful of new sets 10 to 18 months later. -

$160 for Cad Bane’s ship is interesting. It would make a bit more sense if he shows up again in Season 2. I really don’t like the fact that Omega is likely going to be stuck in such an expensive set. No one wanted a Gozanti? That’s probably my favourite Imperial ship design-wise, and it can double as a civilian transport. -

Minifigs look amazing. (Aside from the Boba Fett helmet & jetpack, but that’s nothing new.) The outside of the build is meh, but I have the 2012 palace so I’m not too upset. As a massive Jabba’s Palace fan, this is an automatic buy for me. Now I’m interested in seeing whether the Canadian price is still $140 (to $100 USD) or if it will go down like some Canadian set conversions have recently. At least they gave it new leg printing. A new mould for a shirtless Gamorrean that just appears in the Book of Boba Fett and one scene in the Mandalorian wasn’t realistic considering the fact that Grogu, the Saxon/Armorer helmet, Tech’s helmet, and Fennec’s helmet are the only new moulds made for the Disney+ shows so far. Plus the Gamorreans in the scene the set is based of were in the ROTJ outfits anyways.
