Yes, very true. Metal armour tended to get very warm in direct sunlight and to rust when exposed to rain, so a surcoat was worn over the armour to provide some protection against the weather. So the new torso actually quite accurately depicts how the average soldier would've looked like in the Middle Ages. It may come to no surprise that I therefore prefer the new torso for generic soldiers, using the scale armoured torsos for either elite soldiers or guards.

You sure know how to make voting difficult! Given the current fantasy based Castle theme, Elves would be the most logical choice. As I stated somewhere before, many features of the still popular Forest Men could be incorporated into a Forest Elves line, like secret hideouts and treehouses, so that makes two good arguments in favor of an Elves faction. But on the other hand, I'd love nothing more than to see the Crown faction expanded by some lovely Village sets, like a farm, a windmill, some shops and so on. In the end I voted for Elves, but if it were possible, I would've voted for both Elves and Villagers!

Beautiful little scene, very nicely done! *sweet* The rocks are just superb and I'm very fond of the smooth finish. I do have one question though: what's an Ork doing in such a beautiful tropical paradise?

Everything has pretty much been said already, but still, what a nice creation! A perfect example of how a simple but well executed concept can work just as well as far more complicated structures. I'm actually kinda surprised at how well the grey/tan color scheme goes together, untill today I always had the impression that it was a rather dull combination. Well done! *y*

The Tic Tac Toe set only has the lead general figures of both armies. I'm actually quite interested to know why anyone would want to build an army of generals? Seems to me there are much better army builders with a variety of generic soldiers out there, such as Crossbow Attack and the new Impulse soldiers.

Nice review, very detailed. *y* As for the spare parts, mine didn't come with any. Both dark grey 1x1 round plates are used on the weapons rack (one for the armour, one for the helmet) and I only got one robot hand for holding weapons.

I think this says it very nicely. Copying the work of others is very flattering, but taking credit when showing it to others (at home or on the internet) is just not-done. So personally, I see no objections to recreating MOCs made by other people, as long as you give them credit for the original design. P.S. Asking permission before copying a MOC might be a good idea as well.

Ah, you've added spectators! :-D Very nice, makes the scene much more complete! Great use of heads too!

Instantly recognizable, very nicely done! Too bad there isn't a medieval town built around it ;-)

Thanks a lot Legomilk! It's nice to be able to have a better look at how the model is built before buying it ;-)

Oh my mistake! I had the best and worst minifig poll by Indy in mind! :-$

Great vignette, you've really managed to capture the essence of a Roman arena in this small scene! Also, I really like the way you photographed it, it really brings out the drama! *sweet*

WOW, what a great and unique way to build a tree! Very original, and it looks just fantastic in that fun scene! Big thumbs up from me *y*

Huh? Your logic escapes me. In the previous poll we were asked to vote for the BEST and the WORST minifig. In the WORST category, the Mars alien got the most votes by far, so I would think people consider it to be the WORST minifig. I'm therefore at a loss as to why the Mars Alien hasn't been included in this poll. :-|

I for one am very much looking forward to building this set, it's a definite must-have for me! *wub*

Two things we really don't need in LEGO sets: stupid flick-fire missiles and KK style catapults. |-/

7424 Review: Dragon Fortress
TheFrisian replied to MagPiesRUs's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
It would seem I missed out on a great set, there's so much more to this set than I originally thought! The review showed lots of superb details which makes this set really appealing! *sweet* -
Are you kidding? 8-

I saw the new Impulse sets at a local Intertoys in the Netherlands today! It kinda speaks for itself that I immediately picked up both Castle Impulse sets. Of the two, the soldier is definitely my favorite. I like the new torso and with the spare parts I can build a second knight. The wizard is not a total loss, but I'm not fond of it either. In my opinion, he would've looked much better in dark blue, and he could seriously do with a cloth cape. Also, I think I would liked to see him come with a staff instead of a wand.

I agree, the castle in the back is great! I also thought it's nice to see several Sea Serpents ships (6057) in the display, I loved that ship back in 1992 :'-)

The idea presented by Steel sounds very appealing to me, a special range of LEGO products suited for AFOLS, which still relate to regular themes. Personally, I'm just loving the current fantasy based Castle line and would like nothing more than to see it expanded by an Elves faction. Not only does it fit the general fantasy theme, but since Elves usually live in forests it would also provide the perfect opportunity to reintroduce a Forest theme. Sets could include Ents, tree houses and secret hide outs. En Elves theme would need several new molds, like Elvish armour, helmets, blades and I'd love a redesigned longbow.

Petition To Bring Back 7036 Dwarves Mine To S@H
TheFrisian replied to concreteasflesh's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Vader is probably right, I wouldn't worry about it too much at this point. The production run of this set has barely started, so I'm sure it will return soon enough on S@H ;-) -
What a wonderful MOC! Trying to build Minas Tirith in a somewhat realistic minifig scale would be nearly impossible, but the builder really captured the essence in this scaled down version. I love the smooth finish of the walls and the overall architecture and some of the roofs in particular are superb. And on top of that, it still looks like its very playable. Kudos tot the builder! *sweet*

Best ways to prevent sets getting dusty

Interesting idea, but I don't see it put to use in our house :-D -
Best ways to prevent sets getting dusty
TheFrisian replied to Nonpoint Fan's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That kinda works for when you store LEGO, but I would welcome some effective solutions for models on display. My Sopwith Camel and Red Baron have gotten extremely dusty while on display, still got to find a way to clean them without destroying what's left of the !@#$%^& stickers that don't stick any more.
