Buying LEGO from other countries on-line stores

Are you in a non-eastern state? I've not had that problem, that's a bummer :S -
Where Can I Find a Cheaper Death Star
DrWeevil replied to Lord Of The Fries's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Yeah I've read about that too - I haven't seen anything like that available on out S@H and they seem to sell out in a matter of minutes - for every one person who picked up a bargain there were dozens complaining about missing out! As for the cost - I can understand your pain, it certainly isn't a cheap set! I have to admit that in spite of being a somewhat compulsive collector of 'mega sets' I wasn't planning on buying one (I snobbishly prefer my more 'artistic' Death Star II personally), but the $400 pricetag sucked me in. It is actually a pretty great diaorama I have to say. That said it's easy to say 'buy it!', but at the end of the day it's a huge amount of money to plonk down on pieces of plastic. I don't know how all these AFOLs keep buying new stuff sometimes every week! They may not pop up on amazon.fr that cheaply again but they do seem to come in and out of stock at their regular price... Worthwhile keeping an eye on it I'd say. -

FYI: Comparative Amazon.fr Shipping Times: Ordered 27/Oct Standard Shipping One set sent via UPS - arrived 2/Nov - condition pretty good, could still be seen as MISB - tracking very accurate One set sent via DHL - arrived 9/Nov - condition moderately squashed box with creases, couldn't call MISB any longer - tracking completely erroneous -
Where Can I Find a Cheaper Death Star

Me too! I did exactly the same thing. I ummed and ahhed on that for weeks and weeks on Amazon after having liked it since it came out - waited until I worked through my spending guilt and then finally bit the bullet when the currency peaked (saved me a whole couple of dollars!). I'm still waiting for it to arrive actually. Also bit the (different) bullet on the Maersk ship at around the same time (wanted that one since 2005) through Bricklink when I had the chance to throw it in with another order for no extra shipping charge and a decent price. I'm still waiting on that one to get here too - currently in the tracking black hole waiting for paranoia to set in that I won't ever receive the parcel stage - not sure if I'm the only one that gets paranoid waiting for orders to arrive... Sorry that went perhaps a little off topic! -

+1 You are never going to get this set on clearance, it's too popular. Get it as cheap as you can now. The trick with Amazon.fr is to go almost to the last step of purchase in order to see the final amount of the sale excluding VAT. You will have to enter credit card details but this will not mean you are locked in to the purchase. One thing I've learnt with Lego bargains is that if something comes up at a really good price you don't hesitate (if you've the money of course) - even if you may see it for a little cheaper later it's better than missing out or paying a premium down the track - its just a pity you didn't grab one last week! -

I was responding to the confirm from amazon under $500 part - the only way to confirm that now is to begin to go through with a sale... -

Why can't you just put it in your Amazon basket and see if you can check out? Plenty of us purchased them from Amazon France over the last two weeks... -

... In a really big bag?! I'm always tempted to get my orders sent to work because I can't stand waiting for Saturdays to get to the PO, but am paranoid they'll go walkabout down in the mailroom. Can't you drive in to work one day? If not, good luck! ;) -

Cool thanks, I won't worry then. My UPS orders have always tracked accurately (as is my current UPS shipment), this was the first I'd had sent with DHL so wasn't sure. I haven't had a Botany delay on a package yet, mine seem to get laid up at my local PO, whose mail contractor appears to view delivering the mail 5 days a week as too onerous a task! Not that it usually matters too much as I'm never able to pick them up during the week anyway thanks to that interference called work -

A question about Amazon.fr DHL shipments: My tracking has been screwy since placing my order, stating it had been received and signed for a week before I'd even ordered it, and the details haven't changed since. I'm just wondering if anybody else has experienced this also? If others have and have received their parcels in good time I won't bother emailing customer service. Cheers -

I succumbed on Thursday evening, and put through an order that also included a smaller set, with regular post. Shipping confirmation emails received on Fri morning for small set (via DHL - not fussed as not in a hurry for that and don't mind if the box is banged up) and the Death Star was confirmed shipped yesterday morning (not sure why it took a couple of days, I'd started to doubt I'd be supplied it! - sent via UPS). The DS is expected to arrive on 7th Nov but the last time I ordered from there, UPS shipping was delivered prior to the expected date. Can keep you updated, but I'm not worried about receiving it now I know it's been sent! And I wholeheartedly agree about the prices exponentially worsening your addiction... I'm just happy I don't collect City/Kingdoms/Technic, otherwise it'd be a scary, scary situation! Am kicking myself however, that the Tower Brisge is so cheap, after I caved and bought it online 5 months ago for a reasonable amount more and still haven't built it :( -

You can always just go with a friend - but beware: a close friend borrowed card and they were caught out and forced to forfeit it! Anywho, have some patience - it'll be released soon enough and be on sale soon enough - well-timed patience usually wins out when it comes to Lego bargains! As a matter of fact, if your local Target has them out you may be able to pick them up for $135 with their current (perennial?) 20% off. -

I have only ordered the one item from there, unfortunately they don't stock the sets I'm after at this point in time. I've just placed a large order from a German Bricklinker of sets I've been after for a long time, and shipping was €25 + €11 insurance - up to 20kg. I can't really complain about that either, and they had all the sets I was after. The only thing that puts a ceiling is coming in under the GST limit... Here's hoping the shipping is as good as the price of it! -
If you are in Australia I know a service that offers this, for a reasonable price. USPS shilling price plus $14ish USD plus paypal 3%.

Sorry to but in with my two cents - the Amazon.fr shipping is the cheapest of any place you'll find on the Internet -aside from thehut that is (if it's still free). Standard shipping on Supercar was ~€7-8 and I had it in hand in perfect condition in <5 working days. Couldn't have been happier with my transaction and shipping experience with them! -

That is an amazingly beautiful sculpture. If it were a purchasable set I'd buy it in a heartbeat. At retail. Congratulations on such an awesome build! -

To save time visit: Shipstoaustralia.com You can search the Amazon catalogue to see what will ship out here. Also enables you to see prices in both USD and AUD, as well as calculate shipping. So yes, time saving but perhaps ultimately more expensive as you become increasingly tempted! -

Can't recall if this has been mentioned but didn't see it in the last couple of pages - The current Kmart Kids catalogue has some Alien Conquest sets on sale for around a 29% discount: 7067 Jet Copter $49 ($20 off) UFO abduction $35 ($14 off) 7051 Tripod Invader $25 ($9 off) Small Buggy $13 ($4 off) Again, apologies if this is old news - I picked up the tripod and UFO after work last night as an over-worked, over-tired retail therapy impulse buy... -

Wow, that is impressive, show off! :P Price hunting is one of those things that can become a false economy - you may spend hours and hours to find the cheapest price that usually is only a matter of a few dollars lower than the next cheapest price that didn't take so long to find - I'm not talking about not bargain hunting, but 'number one best price' hunting. For me personally, that search is part of the fun, but if I had to translate those hours into my normal working $ rate, I get totally ripped off on every set I buy! -

Unfortunately for you, at the end of the day this is your mistake, and Bill is under no obligation to do anything. That is why you should always double check when sending and receiving orders. Personally, I am a very busy person, and the last thing I would be making time for in my busy schedule is chasing up the return of a parcel someone sent me out of the blue by mistake, especially if their emails had the accusatory tone of your above posts. Did you offer to pay for the return shipping, paypal and conversion fees and the cost of his time to go through with all that hassle? I don't understand why you haven't posted this on The Bricklink Forum instead and POLITELY asked a moderator to send this fellow a message. All you seem to want to do by posting here is to put a black mark on someone's name for a mistake you made. -

Agree. I've bought a lot of Lego over the years but I have to say, I've not bought a single set from TRU. -

Toys R Us Aus have just launched their online store - to save $10 off your order by 9th October enter the coupon code "GET$10" at checkout. Haven't bothered to look at their Lego collection but the email had a Duplo brick tub as one of the examples of available toys. Enjoy!
