Hi all,
As a long time 'passive participant' (i.e. lurker) at EB it's probably about time I came out and joined up! I've loved Lego for a long time, going back to the "Lego Room" I shared with my sister, and the hours (upon hours upon hours) of epic (and slightly melodramatic) worlds we'd create for our Minifig Empires (if NASA had taken a leaf out of our Lego adventures we'd all surely be jetting between planets on a daily basis by now).
I emerged into the light once more back in 2005 when I saw the Viking's ship on sale at a local department store after Christmas and impulsively bought it (I think this may have had something to do with the Blackbeard's Bounty set I'd always wanted as a kid). After receiving 'the bite' as it were, I bought a few sets, ultimately purchasing the UCS Death Star II and solidifying my fangirl status! I don't tend to buy a large number of sets, but like to focus on larger, intricate sets - I *love* the modular buildings and large architecture sets (Eiffel Tower, Taj, Bridge), really enjoyed building the UCS MF and still have soft spots for my 'fashionably incomplete' Death Star 2, UCS Y-Wing and Ferrari Enzo.
I have a very stressful and demanding career and I find Lego to be a great, relatively harmless escape - yes it can be expensive, but I limit what I buy and at what price, and it's cheaper than my other vice (cars! though they're free to look at). Clicking those bricks together is actually quite a meditative exercise. That said, at work, people do tend to raise their eyebrows when they find out about my Lego hobby!
Anyway, enough about me - I'm glad I made the effort at last - this is a great online community full of good people.
Cheers!
