  1. Good improvements. I missed them while assembling my truck and now do not want to deconstruct it :). However to cope with chore of slow crane rotating I added classic vintage hand crank: Greets
  2. Yes, its gonna be something roughly similar to 42053 Volvo EW160E but 835 parts is enough for such model?
  3. TBH I cannot say that this will work for 100%. I don't have this model so don't know how wiring is routed, I browsed building instructions but is hard to verify without seeing real model. Only problem I saw in building instruction is 9v motor which is mounted in front part of shuttle in tight compartment, so not sure if connecting via 2x4 electric plate (as its required for extension cable+ 9v motor) would be possible. Guide to replacing damaged wire: Replace LEGO 9V Electric Wire Greets
  4. Hey, I have old Lego Technic set with 9V motor - power pack 8720 and my long cable got insulation cracks too and seems useless now as it get short circuit quite easily, so I know a problem. I see following solutions: - either find materials on youtube how to make DIY long old technic cable: as removing old cracked lego wire and replacing it with generic insulated wire from electronics shop (length up to you :)) and soldering it into technic lego metal pins, - or buy power functions extension cables item no. 8871 (50 cm) or/and 8886 (20 cm). Each extension cable consist of one power functions plate and one old 9v plate. Hence For connecting old battery box and old 9V motor you you need two extension cables because you need old plates on both sides. In such configuration you need also additional 4x2 plate with electric contacts for connecting old 9v motor as new extension cable allows to connect old 9v parts only from bottom. The downside is that extension cable are quite pricey. Hope this helps.
  5. Hey, finally it works with beta version (link from this thread). It took following steps: i uploaded bootloader and after I switched off City hub and switched on it again and then train motor started to work with written code. Thanks :)
  6. Hey hope it is good section here. According to brickset set 42124 (PU RC Buggy set) is due to retire on 31st of December 2021: https://brickset.com/sets/42124-1/Off-Road-Buggy Is it true information or just error on the page? Set was released in 2021 so if going to be cancelled at the end of 2021 it seems to has very short life span... Also cannot find this set at LEGO official page...so it is strange... Greets
  7. Hey it seems to work using that https://beta.pybricks.com/. Thanks! :) So on my PC in Chrome: bootloader is loaded, wifi connection established. I tested simple program to turn the red light on and off and it works. However I got stuck on another obstacle: I tried to run simple program for my train motor (motor without sensor) - Making a train drive forever and it does not work. Code is compiled without an error and diode is blinking blue on regular interval but nothing more happens i.e. motor is not running... I see sb posted similar issue already at Pybricks support page: https://github.com/pybricks/support/issues/500 Greets
  8. Hey thank you guys. Regarding firmware update I think it is up to date, as my Powered Up app on my smartphone does not make any request for updates and according to TLG Powered Up FAQ updates are made automatically via app. Regarding this bluetooth problem; I tried on my smartphone with error code mentioned before, tried also on my PC with bluetooth dongle but it got another error message. So maybe need to try on another laptop.
  9. Here is example MOC carriage: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-55594/tango2110/75955-hogwarts-express-extra-long-passenger-carriage/#details pdf instruction is free, just you need to count needed parts browsing through pages.
  10. Hey, thank you for warm words;) Yes I guess that MOC starts from making just small improvements to builded sets;) And yes, I own HP train set (75955) too and also see a lot of potential to upgrades there :). Regarding whole topic about expert lego trains. As it was written here that LEGO expert train modellers is quite small community which rely on their own creations which are very close (with regard to all LEGO limitations) to the original in terms of scale and level of detail. So as also mentioned here already many MOC expert train models rely heavily on custom parts to make it plausible scale model of the original. I think TLG keeps even their expert models more on hobby/toy side than professional models (super detailed MOC designs). Take as example 10277 Crocodile Locomotive Creator Expert set. While it is far more detailed and closer to original than let it say 60198 set electric locomotive, however in eyes of the devoted MOC train designer it has still a lot things to improve or to rebuild - just to mention very simplified/omitted side rods and jackshaft power drive. Similar case is legendary 10194 Emerald Night; it is better/more detailed than any train produced until that time, but still has big field for expert MOC designers to improve. As it is obvious that TLG policy is always to make a profit and all sets are trade-off between price, complexity and parts count. Also there is also limited amount and variety of new parts which TLG can provide, so to recreate accurate model of some steam locos you need for example custom wheels, rods and so as standard TLG wheels (fixed diameter) are suitable to limited steam locomotives. So IMO TLG is not to introduce some series of expert trains, unfortunately. Maybe they release some expert stream train set or some other single sets of historical locomotives but that would be enough for TLG. Just my opinion, maybe I am totally wrong ;) Greetings
  11. Hey I purchased 60198 City cargo train set and I run may train either with the remote or with my smartphone powered up application. For me powered up has much more potential when used with pybricks. So I tried to use my city/train hub with pybricks to write some programs to run my train. Unfortunately, I got stuck on installing firmware for pybricks (bootloader). I followed guidelines from their webpage, so was holding green button till light started blinking in purple and then clicked "Install Pybricks firmware" button in Pybricks code webpage opened in my browser. Light on hub is blinking red/green/blue and there is shown progress in % (Pybricks code webpage) after it reaches 100% error message occurs: "Hub took too long to respond" and hub led blinks red/green/blue in infinite mode - you need to put off batteries to stop it. On Github pybricks/support I found whole topic regarding that error message "Hub took too long to respond" and probably there is solution to that problem but I am beginner at Python programming so don't know how to solve this problem. Should I write some kind of input file to get through that issues with bluetooth or other? They put some code file there but I totally do not know how to use it. Here is link to that support page: https://github.com/pybricks/support/issues/256 Any help welcome :) Regards
  12. Literally yes. According to manual for 60198 you need hold that green button for 5 sec to switch off the device. Either you can turn off bluetooth in your smartphone (if you use it instead of remote) then hub losts its connection bluetooth and automatically turns off.
  13. Hello :) @M_slug357 and @zephyr1934 you got me :) I went all in and bought 60198 cargo train set together with spare tracks and switch tracks (60205, 60238) :) It's superb, though I see a lot potential for tweaks and upgrades ;) Regards
  14. So I have a dilemma whether hunt for well priced 60198 cargo train set or wait for (hopefully) released new cargo train in 2022 year ;)
  15. Superb work presented here My question regarding all LEGO monorail topic: is it any chance that TLG will reintroduce monorail series (either Lego City or Space) with all that parts like monorail rail parts and motor in modern version of course (drive as powered up, enhanced rails, etc.)? Regards
  16. Yes you re right. Just it was not clear for me even on bricklink.
  17. Hey which version of receiver (v1 or v2) has RC racer set 42095? It was released in 2019 and contains two L motors. As PF it is pretty new set and probably last Technic set with PF. So maybe it was provided with v2 version of receiver? Greetings
  18. Hey, one more question: Does powered up remote controller (item no. 88010) is able to control train's speed in proportional way like potentiometer? It was possible in PF remote controller (two knobs), not sure it is possible with PU.
  19. Hey All of You thank you for your valuable remarks regarding presented topic. Another doubt about PU; is it prone to wi-fi interference? I read one review of 60197 set (passenger train) on brickset: Is it really that bad? I live in flat in apartament where wifi net is strong but don't have any issues with bluetooth devices like wireless headphones and so. Regards
  20. Hello My first post here. Found some posts regarding the comparison of Powered Up (PU) and Power Functions (PF), but it was rather related to Technic. Couldn't find any similar for trains. So I am considering to buy 60198 Lego Cargo Train which is powered by Powered Up. However, I read here about PU system that it is inferior to PF system, as considering it in LEGO Technic. So how it is in the Trains department? As far as I see: PF for trains has remote IR intutitive controller with two knobs; for A channel and B channel with max. 8 trains to control (with 4 controllers). Additionally battery box and seperated IR recevier is needed. PU has bluetooth remote controller, so clunky smartphone control can be omitted? But is PU remote controller in any point inferior to older PF controller? PU battery box has embedd bt receiver so less space is needed inside the locomotive, so it seems its better (less flexible though?) Coming back to 60198 buying consideration; I saw some offers of used PF systems for trains (separated or with a locomotive), but they are quite pricey: 55 EU for control set, and 100EU with control+locomotive (from 60052 or 7939 set). So is it better to buy this new set with PU or invest into older used (but better?) PF sets? Kind regards
  21. Hey! I am new on EuroBricks. Got back to LEGO after about 20 years of Dark Age :) I had LEGO as a kid (sets from end of 80's and from 90's). Now I got 21322 set Barracuda Bay which is superb and brings me nostalgia of LEGO golden age of Piracy (1989-1991) :) Besides I have some Harry Potter sets as my wife loves the theme ;) also some small technic, creator and so. Greetings ;)
