He didn't trust the colorful halfling, and he didn't want to trust the old cannon jockey, but the man raised yet another good point. You find good hands, I give gold. Idea strong enough.

Foolish, he thought to himself. She'd alienate those wishing to befriend her, just because they were seeking safe haven among themselves first? Silly orc, he mutters, as she walked away. He turned to see two men take seats at the bar nearby. Having been enough of an extrovert for one day, he quickly turned his attention back to his acquaintances. Silly paladin, too! Bacon best cooked. Crispy, crunchy.

Swinehurst was annoyed that so much happened while he was trying to speak and yet he was not notified before he opened his mouth. He turned to greet the little gremlin at the bar and beckoned Kob over. Greenies, come droink! Strength in numbers, plus ale! Bacon make you strong. Bacon cure sickness. Bacon is best stat boost!

I thoink boring good. Boring means we keep heads on shoulders. I worried, though. When trouble come up, I fear they turn against greenies first. Easy enough to fall back on old hatreds when suspicioinks all over place. Potato serve as message and food! Try with bacon. Good to know at least one human not hate greenies.

The entrance of the young half-orc had caused some commotion, only adding to the tension in the Hall. Why was Scheherazade so unhappy to see him? Looking around the room, Swinehurst could only pick out a few other greenies. Had the evils of the past truly been forgotten? There was a proud orc among the Veterans, but would that be enough? Did Scheherazade want her son to leave before another race war broke out? So many questions. Theodor had just raised a good point. Swinehurst makes his way past the loud norseman and joins Eris at the bar for a drink. "Make that two droinks, Scheherazade. Eris really thoink situation not get ugly?" he asks, with a grunt.

Heroica RPG - Cruel Angel's Thesis: Discussion
swils replied to Sandy's topic in The Heroica Archive
How in-character are we talking? I wouldn't mind a heavily IC game. No fluff, of course, but playing to the given description of each character would be fun and fitting for Heroica. Count me in, regardless! -
Of course they'll fight town guards. That's why there's a lot of town guards. Strong ones, too. They can risk it and try to take down the riot squad dispatched to subdue these heroes-turned-ruffians, or just pay up and not risk failing the quest.
-
No, no. No permanent level reductions. It's very simple. If the heroes mercilessly slaughter an innocent civilian, or attack a member of the town guard, etc, then they will find themselves under arrest by other members of the town guard in due time. They then have to pay bail! No one wants to lose gold!

If you take, for example, a two headed ogre, I'd say no. The two heads never get along, this is practically canon wherever you go (it also provides countless opportunities for funny-making!). They'd obviously be jealous of the other's hat and each would want what the other has. Of course, then they'd want what the other now has, and it would go back and forth until one has both hats and the other has none. Unfortunately, there can only be one hat per head so one of the hats would be discarded as the lesser hat, and the two heads would fight over who gets to wear the one, better, hat. Or, for the sake of balance and simplicity, I'd say no

Heroica RPG - Expert Job Class Discussion
swils replied to LEGOman273's topic in The Heroica Archive
Should probably put a restriction on ignoring the health cap. Something along the lines of "if the target is already above their maximum health, they can not be healed" It's got such a great kit already, I don't think Special Mirror is required. I know you're a fan of it, but the class can already give a party-wide mini-Lucky effect as well as overheal. Something's gotta give! -
Indeed. I was just meaning to make whoever that ends up being, assuming they secure the drop, aware that I, too, was interested.
-
Quite serious, I'm afraid. I must have missed it when it appeared in Q50 but yes, a party-buffing, defensive lance fits well with my plan moving forward, both strategically and RP-wise. I'm sure I'll face a higher price point both because "I can afford it" and you've wanted it for longer/have ooc and ic connections with folks in that party, but I'm prepared for that possibility.
-
I'm going to have to toss Thormy's name into the hat for the Flagpole as well. I've got Dragonsbane for raw power, but I'm lacking on the defensive end. So, once that drop is secured, perhaps we can talk business
-
Oh Zeph, you and your shenanigans.

It's certainly not perfect, but it serves its purpose well enough: structured PvP to pass the time.

Yes sir, drill sgt, sir! I shan't insult my fellow heroicans, sir! At least not within the confines of the Rules Topic, sir!

Doesn't mean I can't look out for the up-and-coming hopefuls!

Devil's advocate, analyst, pessimist.

I do not foresee the two going hand in hand. Unless there's a change in attitude where rogues get a smaller share of the loot because of their ability to steal, then any gold dropped will still be split across the party. Barring that, rogues will still receive an equitable amount to that of their party members' shares, plus any stolen gold. QMs will surely take this into account and limit the number of enemies able to be stolen from so that rogues don't remain several lengths ahead of the others. If they instead cater to the rogues a bit and add more enemies with gold drops, then rogues will maintain that large gap in income (with good rolls). Of course, that's assuming that the issue was other classes not getting enough gold. If people don't mind the rogues staying significantly ahead, just so long as they have more in their own pockets, then by all means, increase the amount of gold dropped while simultaneously ensuring that there are plenty of opportunities to steal. Although, if that's reasonable with everyone, then I maintain my belief that this whole thing could have been addressed with an attitude change and not a retooling of the mechanic. /innocent-whistling

Oh jeez, just read back and noticed the Thothwick x Thormanil... thing. Quite a blunder! Heteronormativity aside, Danny's right: it was confirmed in Q#14, during an encounter with the Sirens, that Thormanil is quite vulnerable to feminine persuasion.

For the first time in a long time, Thormanil found himself at a complete loss for words. Though he knew he had nothing to fear from Smaragdea, he was unable to bring himself to walk forwards at first. The Copper Fox's words rang in his ear. This was a lifelong commitment to another being. Slowly, his fear turned to giddiness and hope. This young creature would be more than a pet, it could, no, it would be his closest friend. The Fox was right. This was an important decision. So Thormanil stood there, pondering, but it wasn't long before he realized the decision was not his to make. One of the eggs stood out to him more than the others. It was as if it were calling to him, inviting him to free it from its shell. The little dragonling within this egg had chosen him and awaited Thormanil's acceptance. As he held the egg.. He wakes as if from a trance. Sure enough, while lost in thought, he had approached the eggs and picked up the blue one. Had he actually been chosen by the egg, willed towards it and driven to pick it up? Before he could question this first encounter much more, the egg, warm in his hands, began to crack. Fracturing more and more, the shell finally shatters, revealing a small dragonling. "Very small," Thormy thinks to himself, "tiny, even for a dragon." "Well uh.. hey there lil guy. He is a he, right?" he looks to Smaragdea, who nods. "First things first... Yer needin' a name! Hmm.. How d'ya like 'Rex'?" The little hatchling shakes its head fervently. "Right then! Not Rex!" he chuckles, "Tiny?" again the hatchling shakes its head. Thormanil pauses to think. He remembers the great wyvern of the bog, leaving rot and waste wherever it tread. And the obsidian dragon of the fields, brutish, capable of leaving a trail of ashes. This little one would not grow up to be vile and cruel like them. He would not allow it. No, this one would be raised to be a great dragon, large and powerful despite his small size at birth. Perhaps even greater than Smaragdea, if not in Thormanil's lifetime. But their time together would lay the framework. Together, the two of them would stand as a bulwark for their allies to rally behind. They would be the greatest team this land had seen in generations. They would, they had to be. Thormanil knew it. "Alright, lil one. Your name'll be 'Arx' and we're gonna do great things together." Arx's eyes lit up. For a moment, Thormanil could have sworn the little hatchling was smiling at him. With visible effort, Arx flapped his wings and tried to fly to Thormanil's shoulder but only managed a few inches above his hands. He picked Arx up and let him climb onto his back. Remembering that he was still in the presence of Smaragdea and the Copper Fox, he turned back to them. "Smaragdea, this gift, it's beyond anything I coulda imagined. I swear to ya I'll do my best to raise Arx right." Saying his last to Smaragdea, the Copper Fox motions him back towards the way in. Donning the blindfold again, Thormanil is led back to the Training Room where he thanks the Copper Fox once more before taking Arx for his first trip to the Marketplace. Thormanil Nihai, Dragonslayer (Played by swils), and Arx the Hatchling Level 30.5 Dragoon *Immune to Darkness, Wood, Bound, and Slowed* Power Bonus: +1 (+1 Q4) Defense: 8 (0 Base + 5 Shield + 3 Artefacts + 0 Extra) Health: 53 (8 Base + 29 Level-Ups + 15 Raider + 0 Artefacts + 1 Extra) Ether: 0 (Etherless Class)

Plus, I've at least sort of RP'ed where the hatchling has come from -- The Shadeaux left a little 'thank you' gift with the Fox to give to Thormy, probably along the lines of what Scuba has suggested. For roleplay decisions... "Oooh, a dragon. Dragon, fetch! Dragon, burninate! Good dragon!" Is that adequate?
