    We are all obsessed with something Lego! But of course, we all collect with different goals. For some fans, minifigs are nothing more than something to populate their buildings with, and that's cool! Other fans are crazy about minifigs and have walls dedicated to them. We have diversity among the Lego fanbase, with some being crazy for space, others for castle, others for Bionicle, and so on. Some people like keeping sets exactly as they are, while others immediately dissassemble them and use them for MOCs. Minifigure pieces often have some of the most intricately detailed pieces in a set, with detailed prints or molds that seek to either represent a character well or simply to give it more detail. From that standpoint, it makes sense reviewers give attention to minifigs, just like some reviewers pay attention to special pieces in the set or special sections. Minifig design is quite an art. Heck, we even have a full theme dedicated to minifigs. The thing is, if it sells, it means people like it. Can you blame Lego for catering to its customers? And I don't think we can tell other fans what they should or shouldn't like. Our tastes are diverse!

    Who knew the Gorilla suit guy would spark such a craze 11 years ago? I personally expect them to release at least one regular series per year. It has been the case ever since the theme was first released. We certainly now get much less regular figures than back in the day (12 for a year with a single regular series, where we were getting 48 at some point).

    Thanks for the detailed response. Interesting. I can relate, since I was born at a similar time as you. I think at this point the Black Knight's Castle is the only retired set that I have dreamed of owning recently. But the problem with buying 90s sets at this point, especially sealed, is that one has to buy them at such a premium that, like you said, any damage to the set would really hurt considering the price paid. If I ever have more money than I know what to do with, though, I might pick it up. Until then, it will remain something nice to imagine, but that I will never actually own. However, I think I am OK with that, considering other things I do have in my collection (which will hopefully include this bigger, better castle).

    Since I recently got into Castle, I completed the same exercise as you and came to the exact same conclusion (6086)! I was sad to feel that I couldn't afford a new copy of a castle that satisfied me. All of that changed with this release! I am curious why you have been waiting. Have you been a castle fan for years, only to find the castles that were released while you were collecting didn't satisfy you? Or was it a matter of missing out on the Castle years altogether?

    Ehh, I am sure that title goes to some of those insanely limited licensed GWPs (e.g. 1989 small Batmobile or Darth Revan), which go for silly money. This, on the other hand, is one that I might pick up on the secondary market, since I think there's a good chance prices will drop to a reasonable range.

    Yeah, it kind of seems like two series into one. Odd, but I definitely like the selection.

    I think the castle somehow managed to exceed my expectations, which I believe were high to begin with. Having missed out on previous Castle sets and being a newly-minted fan, I've longed for a castle for about a year now. I am lucky that I became a Castle fan just when this set was about to be released. And to me, it is the definitive Lego castle. I really like how the structure can be folded into a cohesive castle, because one of the main things that bother me about some location builds is when they don't feel like a cohesive structure. This set further complements that by including terrain around the castle, which makes it feel even more cohesive. The minifigure selection is outstanding, and strikes an interesting balance between nostalgic simplicity and detailed figures. The Lion Knights are superb and will look great next to the updated Black Falcons. The Queen is incredible and is easily my favorite Queen (surpassing the CMF one). Moreover, given the exorbitant prices for horse bardings on the secondary market, I am delighted that this set includes them. Finally, the family of forestmen, wizard, maid, and other civilians are icing on the cake that can will allow newbies like me obtain a small collection of varied medieval figures. Overall, I feel this set is a dream come true. I can only imagine how veteran Castle fans feel about this! I hope to be able to pick this bad boy up within a year, even know I don't know where I would place it.

    Is the series color going to be pink, or is that just the background for the collage? If it is pink, that would be quite funny, considering the discussion we had here a few days ago about bag colors.

    On the other side of the spectrum, I really liked the pirate roller coaster, but just found it to be too small.

    Don't forget costumed figs keep popping up on BAM now, so they sell well for sure. I'm personally a big fan. I just wish they had done something different this time around.

    I guess you could call it... A long Halloween? That makes a lot of sense. Completely possible. I guess I'm used to thinking Halloween figs are spooky, but that would certainly be another way of celebrating the holiday.

    Does anybody know if the visor is this piece? Oh interesting, hadn't thought about that. I can certainly see many of these fitting that theme, although for some I have a hard time figuring what holiday they might be associated with (e.g. popcorn boy).

    Oh man, I can't believe we fell for this AGAIN. We expected a commemorative series with throwback figures, and ended up getting costumed figs. Don't get me wrong, I am obsessed with costumed figs, and I loved S18. However, it's disappointing to once again have the opportunity for a throwback series and have Lego just repeat what they did the last time. It would seem the knight is a little bit of a throwback figure, which I guess matches what we had in S18 with the policeman. On the bright side, a lot of these figures sound great, and Lego will have many anniversaries in the future. I am just disappointed that they didn't use the opportunity to do something different with the series.

    Thanks for the heads up, Roebuck! From the description, it seems they plan on revealing the list of characters. Too bad I don't speak German, but hopefully a kind soul who does watches it and translates for us soon.

    I had been very tempted to buy the original roller coaster, but I ended up passing on it, thinking that we might see one with a loop some day. This one is great, but I am not sure if I am ready to pull the trigger. I think the old one is nicer to look at, but this one is more "extreme" and modern-looking. Probably the main eye-sore for me is the big tower. I guess the cars generate so much friction that they had to make the tower very tall. However, one could argue some rides at real-world amusement parks look like this. Knowing me, the moment I see it in person, I will want it.

    Hope it's legit. The piece itself looks cool, although the combination with the torso looks like a mishmash to me.

    Hard to gauge whether or not it's a popular opinion since all we have are our perceptions of what others are saying, I think. For me, it makes sense for them to target price increases more towards bigger sets, since those who buy them have more disposable income. If they were to introduce big price increases for their smaller sets, that would price a lot of kids and people with smaller budgets out of Lego. I don't think they are happy about increasing prices, since that will surely result in loss of customers or sales, especially with people budgeting more their expenses. For Lego, it makes sense that such losses are minimized by focusing the increases towards sets that are already expensive, since they are bought by wealthier customers. Whether or not I like it, it makes sense to me.

    I don't get why people are accusing Lego of being greedy. It's not like they chose to raise prices out of nowhere, but rather it comes as a response to rising production costs.

    Probably? I'd say it's more likely they'll distribute price increases towards their large sets, since people who buy them probably have more disposable income and can weather inflation better than those who don't.

    We had dragons more recently than that. Smaug (who is currently expensive) and a dragon that came in a Castle set in the Dragon Mountain set (2014). Still, those were released a while ago.
