  1. Good story and great details on the front of the building
  2. Can OL build in Nola Mar, Pilnton, Tarlor, or Sillitholina? Can OL raise troops in Pilnton, Tarlor, or Sillitholina? I understand from the other discussion that we are using a different mechanism than raids for OL to be able to "capture" this territory and at this point it has been held for nearly 4 months so construction wouldn't be unreasonable given the timeline. Those three settlements only account for 50 more troops per turn but that is significant when our little faction can only raise 330 a turn (270 with Fatu Hiva occupied) vs. COR's ~760 a turn.
  3. Loved everything about it right up until you gave it to the red coats. Now its just pretty good
  4. Right. That is why I've been digging for the other ships. I WILL change this post to be a sistership of one of the other proud lost ladies of the OL fleet. Good news, I hadn't done the form yet.
  5. The architectsat the Beauchamp Shipyard, have been searching the archives for paintings or schematics of many of these older royal ships. It appears some may trace their names back to amongst the original faction fleet of 5 ships. If it is not acceptable to sistership two boats with... identical blueprints... then I am happy to modify this post, but can not find Devils Barnacle, Exicutioner, Ville de Granoleon, or Ambition in "the archives"
  6. A valentine's day build, well played!
  7. This whole discussion has been super useful for me. A couple observations: The invasion of TV being a "challenge" to "seize" a city vs a "raid" to "temporarily occupy" a city makes sense, but the discussion above shows there was some clarification was needed in that. It looks like some gaps are being closed in what means what. I applaud COR for their bold and audacious plan and waiting until the end of the turn to even declare war was well executed. I want to play in a world where surprise is possible. Well done COR (it pains me so very much to say it) But, on 28 OCT, there was no longer any deliberately held secrets about the Fatu Hiva attack and... um... maybe the other troop landing that I'm still not sure happened or not? On 28 OCT, the surprise was sprung and we could not respond in a way that would have changed the outcome. All the frustration was magnified by the long delay in the KPA. I'm going to take this opportunity to say how awesome I think this world is and how appreciative I am of the court for running it! Thanks guys! This is about making the game better and more fun even when getting beat by @Mesabi I think saying "after" the turn deadline, 'hey here a few lines on what we did' would have made both the waiting and swallowing the results easier. I think it would cut down on how much of the story needs to be carried in the KPA too... poor @Capt Wolf gets 1 shot to capture everything everybody is doing. We would have been surprised by the attack in OCT and learned the final result in the KPA. 1 more thing to consider, I know (now) the faction leaders knew all the details but as members of the court they have access to all kinds of info before it is fit for print. Pushing out more, officially, publicly, early on would let us all know what is ready to be known. @Mesabi didn't care on 28 OCT if all of OL knew about Fatu Hiva. "The die was cast" thanks team, this is fun! OL is still gunna "win"
  8. EDIT: Turns out the Ambition survived the storm afterall. So... now we have moved on to the non-mocced Executioner! (I believe this is an iteration of one of the original faction CL Vs). EDIT: Didn't realize when I made this that Le Fougueux had already been sistershipped. Instead of changing the narrative, I saw an opportunity to keep the story in tact and in so doing make my, to date, most accurate portrayal of military service yet. Enjoy. Officer: Good Morning, Ma'am. Mom: Don't you good morning me, you son of a... Son: Ok, I'm all set. Officer: Got enough stuff there Sailor? Son: I sure do! Mom: Well, who knows how long you will keep my boy at sea Son: Right!? I bet Le Fogut can stay at sea for months at a time. Officer: "Le Fouguex..." Son: "Le FouGUEX!" Mom! 74 guns! A real ship of the line! Mom: Yes, and where are you sending my boy to meet this ship? Officer: I'm sorry Ma'am, those details are classified. It is for your son's safety, I can't say. Mom: My son's safety, all your protocols didn't protect his father Son: Dad's fine mom, they said the whole garrison has been released, they are just sitting in camp, waiting to be picked up. Come here mom (awkward lego hug) Its fine, I'll be fine, Dad's fine, I have to do this. Mom: Well, are you going to pick him up? Officer: Again, Ma'am, that is classified, but I assure you, every effort is being made to bring your husband and the rest of the Fatu Hiva garrison home. Now, sailor, we should get going. Mom: Wasn't the Le Fougueux sunk? Officer: Well yes Ma'am, it was. Your son is joining the crew of a newly built ship. We named her the Le Fougueux in honor of the old girl. It is pretty common practice, she has a great legacy. Mom: Don't sink this one too. Or do, I don't really care anymore, just so long as you do it now, before you put my son on it in the middle of the Brick Seas. Officer: Sailor, load you gear. We'll take good care of him Ma'am. Mom: Just like you took care of his father!? Son: Mom! Dad's fine, I'm fine, I'll be fine, maybe I'll be part of the fleet to pick him up. Son: Le Fougueux is a 74-gun ship of the line... brand new... with a great legacy. We are going to make those red bastards pay. (@Bodi's incredible ship) Officer: Alright, lets get going Son: I love you, goodbye mom Mom: I love you too, be safe, be strong, take care of yourself, be... safe... Officer: He's right you know... Mom: What...? Officer: We are going to make those red bastards pay. ----------Many Days Later------------- Chief: Welcome to the Aspiration Young Sailor (formerly known as 'son'): What!? I'm supposed to be assigned to Le Fougueux. What even is this thing? A galley? (@Phred's super unique build) Chief: We prefer catamaran Young Sailor: There has been a mistake, I'm supposed to be on a ship of the line! Chief: Oh yeah, says who? Young Sailor: My recruiting Sergeant showed me pictures of Le Fougueux and said I'd be serving on her! Chief: Le Fougueux sank, new meat, I doubt you want to serve on her Young Sailor: No, but... Chief: Look kid, I'm busy, if there has been a mistake, see that old timer with the epaulettes, he's the quartermaster, he is in charge of the crew. Go tell him you don't want to serve on the Aspiration, you want to go serve on a ship of the line. He will square you away. Young Sailor: Ok, well, thanks. Sailor: Hey new meat. Young Sailor: me? yeah? Sailor: Don't... do not... go tell the Quartermaster you don't want to serve on his ship. Shut up, go stow your gear, and shut up again. Young Sailor: but... Sailor: Welcome to the navy, new meat. ---------------The Next Day------------- Chief: New meat! Young Sailor: Yes Chief! Chief: Get your gear, you've been transferred to HRS Executioner Young Sailor: The what now? Chief: What?! Young Sailor: But, I literally just finished unpacking my gear! Chief: By the gods New Meat, I promise I do not care! I heard you grumbling though, you'll be happy to know the HRS Executioner is a light frigate, cause apparently our little pleasure barge is not up to your high standards. Well, at least it was before it was sunk off King's Port. Young Sailor: What?! Chief: What! Young Sailor: Moving Chief.... *moves, packs gear, transfers to HRS Executioner II, a light frigate and one of the core ships of the faction navy... or at least the original was... before it sunk...*
  9. Getting over the shock and dismay of the KPA, I have a suggestion. Once the turn has ended (OCT27) and what is left is adjudication, a note or view of raw data of what went in to the system would be helpful transparency. We don't need to see where each ship goes, some secrets are best kept, but a couple weeks ago I built a mine in Fatu Hiva, not knowing or having access to know that months earlier it had been attacked. Even if the outcome of the attack was not known yet, after 27 OCT I dont think knowledge of the attack was meant to be secret. This obviously isn't about my mine, my poor poor mine, but it would have smoothed out some of the edges when a long silence with no indicators was met with news that the attack was over, city lost, and there was no opportunity to react. "KPA bulletin dated 27 OCT, a large fleet and hundreds of WTC marines has set sail for Fatu Hiva, it looks like an all out attack, we will keep you posted" Heck make factions write their own, @Bodi can handle it
  10. Thanks @Professor Thaum!!!
  11. @Professor Thaum awesome!, but can you edit the Frontpage test to say it was a collab between @KotZ and I.
  12. Hooray! My first KPA since joining BOBS! Oh... sigh... top 4 headlines: no progress in TV, Fatu Hiva captured with barely a shot, two more come to aid of TV.
  13. You are replaying my torment here, this is very funny. I am pleased to hear that all my anguish was not fruitless. I am really trying to make a star fort (vauban's artillery fortress" style). Those are flat, the whole purpose is for nothing to be exposed above the ramparts. The stars absorb or deflect and anything within line of sight/fire above would be pulverized. But... it looked flat and bare with either a big hole into the center or just flat plates all across the top. So I started adding the 3rd tier despite the vulnerability and that is when I realized I was making a pagoda. Which would be a poor choice in the age of cannon and not very Oleander of me. So... compromise, it is a storage space. I didn't fill it because even though the shape, size, small doors is right for a magazine, being the easiest thing to spot, hit, or lob mortars at is not good for a magazine. So storage. And just to be explicit that it is not a magazine, there is a pallette of gun powder barrels on the bottom floor in the center, hardest place to hit. These are the things that keep me awake.
  14. Hey gang, thanks for all the kind words. Funny thing is, even though you can get away with somethings digitally that you physically can't do in real life, the sloped walls were figured out over time in real life and was copied digitally. 3, 1x2x3 75 degree slope pieces can sit nicely flush. This took forever to build, when I ran out of gas, @KotZ came in on a full tank and brought it over the finish line. Super happy with the end product. To those challenging the thickness of the walls, "bring it!" As for it being digital, I'll follow up with the link to my kickstarter, If anybody wants to buy me the bricks, I will replace all the digital renderings with actual photos, I promise! Lots of little tweaks along the way, the color scheme being one that it sounds like folks agree worked. Another is, in my head it did end up looking "a little oriental." That originally wasn't on purpose, but I didn't fight it. It allowed for a little bit deeper backstory beyond, "Corry bad, Oleon good" (but also that)
  15. that is great, I love the whole things, but yes, to dogpile on. The carts are great!
  16. Great Southern Bay Fortress (Licensed by Oleon as a Large Fort)
  17. (The following is a collab between @KotZand I. Thanks KotZ) The Lotii had begun constructing a large fort overlooking the Great Southern Bay in order to defend Jiangkai and support their colonial ambitions. When the Crown of Oleon offered protection to the decimated population of Jiangkai, work began immediately to complete the fortress. As they say in Granoleon, nothing stimulates growth quite like defense spending. Over the last few months, nearly every able bodied man in Jiangkai and laborers from as far off as Fort Arltrees have worked extended shifts to secure the furthest outpost of the realm. The steep bluffed peninsula is a position of natural strength, overlooking the town and dominating every approach to the settlement. The government sponsored employment has done well to bring the population into the embrace of the Kingdom of Light. In addition, now that construction is complete, large orders of supplies are being commissioned from the local population. Wagons come in daily to supply the garrison, further stimulating the local economy. The imposing entrance is a steep uphill up the one possible approach from land, flanked by obstacles and under the constant watch of sentries. Inside, the garrison is self sufficient. Supplies, magazines, barracks space, administrative quarters, are all housed within the walls of this large fortress. Cannon crews practice drills and marksmanship daily, the booming guns announcing that the flag of Oleon is here to stay in the Great Southern Bay... just in case there was still any question on the matter...
  18. @Bregir for the win with a free-body-diagram to illustrate the resultant force of a ship's forward motion... I love it!
  19. From the start, Admiral Beauchamp had grand and wide reaching plans for the Vineyard of Light venture. Today, the final piece falls into place with the completion of the warehouse. More than just a warehouse, the horseshoe shaped structure houses a distribution center and the brain stem of the sprawling vineyard complex. On the ground floor we have stables and a carriage house. From here Vineyard of Light wine is distributed throughout Lavalette, Stephanique, and to the docks of Lavalette for distribution across the Brick Seas. Logically, we also have storage for finished product on the first floor, and through the main doorway... a small harness room for the beasts of burden. Upstairs we have a hay loft. In addition to more storage and the administrative office of Mr. Marat, the overall vineyard overseer. Admiral Beauchamp himself came to Lavalette to congratulate Mr. Marat on the completion. His carriage was seen crossing back and forth across the grounds, as Mr. Marat gave the owner a tour of the entire operation. With the licensing of this 5th and final building, Admiral Beauchamp has completed brought his ambitious plan to reality. The West and East Vineyards produce the grapes, grapes are turned into wine at the winery, some bottles go to the restaurant, while the rest is distributed from the warehouse or sent to the wharf for shipping around the Brick Seas. 2 x Large Plantations, Large Factory, Large Artisan, and 2 x Large Commercial licenses.
  20. The loyal subjects of Nola Mar are fearless soldiers with the spirit that only true freedom fighters can possess. They would be fighting this revolution to the last with or without the support of the Oleon Crown. But the most bold and the most brave seek out Edward Beauchamp and his Marauders. As battalion commander of the 1st Grenadiers, Edward has become a phantom to the defenders of King's Port and a beacon to the free men of Nola Mar. Patriotic citizens rally to Beauchamp's formation whenever he resupplies in Nola Mar. It is not so much "recruiting" as it is "selecting" the very best. Now, Beauchamp's Marauders combine the fanatical courage of the citizens of Nola Mar and the professional discipline of the 1st Grenadiers. Edwards tactics play to both strengths. The unstoppable charge of the Nola Marians cracks the defensive line of yet another King's Port outpost. Carrying palm logs as scaling ladders, the first wave swarms over the parapets. Conspicuous as ever with his eye patch, cape, and dual pistols, Beauchamp is always at the front of his column and typically the first one into the enemy trenches. The chaos of the opening charge is soon replaced by the ruthless professionalism of the elite grenadiers. Fun fact, the grenadiers have, almost to a man, grown "campaign mustaches" as the ultimate soldier tribute to their leader, mirroring his trademark bushy mustache. The exploitation by the second wave crumbles any chances of an organized resistance. The blue rush is as irresistible as the tide.
  21. I've started working on a digital ship and even with unlimited bricks with no searching it is kicking my butt. I am continually blown away by the curves people can build and the details on the rigging. Well done good Sir.
  22. The thatch work is certainly well done. The snow covered mountain is great, and the cloud is fun. An idea, you could mix the clear column holding up the cloud with the rain columns and hold it up while making it just look like a 4th rain column
  23. After digging numerous shafts around the hills of Fatu Hiva, Geologist Vincent Marseille finally struck pay dirt, a rich vein of iron to feed the Crown's war industry. Now the mine is up and fully operational... Not only is the ore coming out extremely pure, but the vein was struck only a dozen few feet into the side of the hill, allowing a highly efficient operation. Crates of ore are stacking up, awaiting one of the wagons hauling the ore into the city of Fatu Hiva. Captain Renault has been sent by the military leadership to check on production and purity, illustrating that the Crown certainly has plans to capitalize on this strategic resource. Production is increasing daily... licensed as a mine in Fatu Hiva.
  24. I have always found Prussia fascinating, this is terrific. It is also incredibly helpful for the information to be consolidated. I really appreciate that you have taken the time to fill in the details "at the edge of the map" to add this depth and dimension to the greater brick seas. Thanks, keep it up.
  25. Thanks for the quick response @Ayrlego. UPDATE: It was only a few feet down when all the rock turned a tell tail rusty color. Definitely iron in the rock, but was there a pure enough vein to make it worth extracting or not. A few more feet down, and a well placed rock hammer stroke later, and a rusty nugget split to reveal the dark shimmer of pure iron ore. Not only was this a true vein of iron ore, but close to the surface thanks to the upward thrust of the cliff. Vincent dispatched a quick note to Admiral Beauchamp. "My Dear Admiral, The gods do not always provide us with what we seek, but never fail to provide us with what we need. I've enclosed a sample, I will need to hire more men and buy some equipment! -Your Friend, Vincent"
