CapOnBOBS replied to blackdeathgr's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@ChidJ welcome! Great character background story, already woven into the fabric of the BOBS universe! I am also new since October and am still asking lots of questions and getting lots of ood and patient answers (thanks team), so fire away. -
@pombe The style is super cool, I don't "art" enough to describe what I mean better, it is kinda surreal? AND THEN IT MOVES! Thats awesome, clever little build! and funny!

Settlement: Lavalette, Stéphanique, Oleon
CapOnBOBS replied to Captain Genaro's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Admiral Retired Girard Beauchamp had bought a large holding on the outskirts of Lavalette. After developing it into a sprawling vineyard, he has sold the entire brand to the RNTC. The West and East Vineyards produce the grapes, grapes are turned into wine at the winery, some bottles go to the restaurant, while the rest is distributed from the warehouse or sent to the wharf for shipping around the Brick Seas. 2 x Large Plantations, Large Factory, Large Artisan, and 2 x Large Commercial licenses. Now a new Wharf has been added on the waterfront to ship the wine across the brick seas. Also "Vineyard of Light" is now a proud member of the RNTC family of brands.- 19 replies

[OL FB1] "Vineyard of Light" Grape Plantation
CapOnBOBS posted a topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Though the surge in naval construction to support the Crown's Navy has been good to the Beauchamp Shipyard, the old Admiral has long had his eye out for an opportunity to diversify. And well, nothing secures one's status as a member of the elite like being a gentleman farmer. With the announcement that the fortress construction in Lavalette was complete, Admiral Beauchamp seized the opportunity presented by the island's security for a sizable real estate investment. The large vineyard spreads out across the rolling hills of Eastern Stephanique, just south of the city proper. The plantation is just the first cultivated plot of a much large Beauchamp holding on the island now. Of course the Admiral was in a rush to plant the family crest on every exposed beam to claim the family's arrival in the landed aristocracy. Somewhat pretentious say some, but none can deny that the first crops of three different varieties of grapes have come in beautifully, adding a particular grandeur to the scene. In fact, the gently rolling hills of the vineyard have become quite the romantic destination for young couple in the growing city of Lavalette. The wine certainly doesn't hurt either... The walk up, open air, wine bar has definitely added to the magic of the "Vineyard of Light," the somewhat cheesy brand name this proud Oleon family has chosen for their latest enterprise. (there is a bartender behind the pole) The terrace overlooking the little stream that meanders through the rich farmland is always crowded at sunset. Yes, if only the overseer could get farmer Jacque to wear a darn shirt as he shuttles freshly picked grapes from the hands doing the picking in the fields past all the guests... it would be quite the picturesque spot. Ever eager, ever bold, ever ambitious... the old retired Admiral ever in a hurry despite his body's struggle to keep up... will talk the ear off of anybody who will listen about his grand plans to further develop this new "estate" into a massive enterprise. Now open, an adjoining Restaurant and Dining Terrace! -
[Merrymas] Organising a BotBS Advent Calendar
CapOnBOBS replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@Ayrlego seeing the whole crew assembled is already my favorite post in all the Brick Seas. -
This is so great! I saw the title and thought it was just inspired. I was looking through for a few minutes before I said, "Oh, Right, The Bridge!" It is so well put together and so nicely detailed that at first glance I didn't catch just how much you had stuck to the original and it added a whole new layer of awesomeness when I saw it.

what country should i join in brethern of the brick seas ?
CapOnBOBS replied to valon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I'm only 2 months into BOBS, but, I believe the world requires balance between the forces of good (Oleon) and evil (Corrington). My take is Eslandolan and the Sea Rats pursue commerce and mischief respectively in that balanced universe. That said, the Red Coats have a much larger holding than the Blue and I think 145 blue coats!!! Would do much to help us restore the balance! -

@Ayrlego, slow on the uptake. If not too late, Edward (son) or Girard (father) Beauchamp could be available for Merrymas festivities -
[OL Royal Collab] Fortresse Stéphane I, Lavalette
CapOnBOBS replied to CapOnBOBS's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@evancelt i think you have laid out an outstanding tactical plan for a red coat frontal assault. They will swallow a lot of grapeshot for the chance to crawl one at a time through the gun ports though. The garrison will certainly do their part! All, yes Classic Pirates! Happy the vintage look is appreciated. This started as an El Dorado Fortress and Lagoon Lock Up next to one another with a few pieces connecting them. It has been years of little adds and the occasional complete overhaul. Tried to keep the roots though, like the ramp up the main gate is still an El Dorado baseplate, the tower on the port is adapted from the "Soldier Fort" and the military port portion still has all the components of the lagoon lock up. Thanks @Bodi for organizing and the beautiful contributions that complete the picture of a layered and mutually supportive defense across this and the previous existing forts. -

Of course war with Corrington was inevitable. That is why the Kingdom of Light has been slowly building military infrastructure for years. The wisdom and foresight of the Crown and the High Council has once again been demonstrated. General Bernard Montpellier has spent the last 6 months overseeing the final stages of construction, manning, and equipping Fortresse Stéphane I in Lavalette on the Island of Stéphanique. Preparations are complete, the garrison is fully manned Supplies to outlast any siege have been stockpiled. Day in and day out, wagons have been crossing the bridge over the creek and making the climb through the main gate, the natural obstacles only adding to the overall strength of the fortress. Major Henri Hollande and the leadership of the Royal New Terra Company have been extremely helpful in meeting the demands of the quartermasters. Stands of arms, powder, cannon balls, all on hand, enough to supply a field Army. No detail has been left unchecked, nothing has been left to chance. While engineers built the great bastion on the seaward face, the garrison has been inventorying and stockpiling supplies. Today is a proud day for all the troops of the garrison. Today a brief ceremony is being held to mark the transition from construction and preparation into full operational readiness. General Montpellier’s broad smile and infectious energy has sustained the garrison through the months of labor. All the hard work of the General, his staff, and the Soldiers of the garrison have paid off as the fortress is complete before the first Corrington sail appears upon the horizon. “The anticipation is over, the preparations are complete, you have prepared our whole lives for this moment!” “His Gracious Majesty has provided his loyal subjects with the most formidable fortress in the Brick Seas!” “We have only to measure up to the duty we owe our country and nothing can deny us victory!” "If the Red Coats dare, we will blast their ships to kindling from our perch amongst the bluffs!" The Royal Enginners have even thought to provide Fortresse Stéphane I with a military quay. The docks facilitate the rapid resupply of the garrison, making the fort a power projection hub as much as a static defense. The utilization of the military quay has allowed for great relations with the fort's neighbors in Lavalette. In fact, the town offered land beyond the garrison to build a standalone barracks. As formidable as the great bastion is, the main fort is just the jewel in an integrated defensive system, including a newly completed defensive wall along what had been the most likely beach for an amphibious landing and the guns of the fort provide mutual support to nearby Fort Henri, the headquarters, battery, and mortar emplacement. Fortresse Stéphane I is a beacon for all loyal subjects, a fitting monument to it's namesake, and a symbol of the true power of Oleon. Today, the flags fly high above Lavalette and Fortresse Stéphane I Note: Additional collab elements (barracks and beach defenses) to be posted in comments

José's Inn - Ye Olde BoBS Drinking Hole
CapOnBOBS replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I would feel weird to do an unprovoked "hey everybody check out the interview I did" post. I also would not feel that it is my place to post somebody else's cool little lego interview where they give shout outs to BOBS not once, but twice. So @evancelt should consider this provocation. I thought it was nicely done! -

I dig how flipping over the greens instantly gave the plant an exotic feel. Super effective (cute, funny, detailed) story telling jammed into a small build with a 1 line explanation. -
[OL FB1] Ship Mast Plantation Eltina
CapOnBOBS replied to CapOnBOBS's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks team, happy that the terrain seems to be working out. It was difficult to make the trees look like the same type without it seeming generically copied and pasted. I was happy with the canopy/undergrowth feel. Between all the foliage and the translucent water pieces the studio software was running overdrive on this in building and in rendering. -

Large Cultural Licensed Build for a Humanitarian Mission for the poor refugees of Terraversa. -
Where the River of the True Faith flows into the open water off the Island of Zeus is the city of Astrapi, clearly an important settlement for those who truly embrace the faith. It is therefore no surprise that the pious would choose Astrapi for their mission. Moved by the great human suffering in Terraversa, the good and houses of Rimbaud (@Keymonus) and d'Offren (@blackdeathgr) and Beauchamp have determined it was their noble obligation to take action. Their philanthropy only being subtly acknowledged with their family crests in the center of the camp. Long time minister to the religious needs of the Beauchamp Family, Monk Gerald Richelieu has been given the honor of administering this important endeavor, a legitimate and licensed "Large Cultural" endeavor. The mission demonstrates the worthiness of the "Kingdom of Light" to hold dominion over their loyal subjects. As the war has brought suffering, Oleon brings relief. The hastily erected wooden structures are simple but effective, allowing the mission to spend their donated funds on the refugees from Terraversa. Though clearly important that the symbols of the crown be displayed, a clear message of the grace of the Crown. Monks with donated supplies provide medical care to the old, the young, and those who can not take up arms for their freedom. Similarly, food aplenty is available free of charge to the crown's newest and most in need subjects. Opportunities to pray and an opportunity to reinforce the Kingdom of Light as the true protectors of the Faith. And on the second floor, it isn't much, but it is a clean bed and a quiet place to sleep for those that war has pushed out of their homes. The word has been passed throughout Oleon's new holdings in Terraversa, that any loyal subjects in need can find support in the mission in Astrapi. A clear sign of the power of a righteous king, a pious people, and worthy noble class to take care of all the King's subjects.

[OL - FB2] Carpenter's School Eltina
CapOnBOBS replied to CapOnBOBS's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks Professor. I was struggling with how to make this stand out as clearly a carpenter's school and not just a big building. In another forum somebody had posted an amazing cross section of a ship of the line, much taller, wider, and deeper (maybe a quarter of a ship complete with a story unfolding) but I'd thought the visual of the cross section was super cool. -

Beauchamp Shipyard's Carpenter School | large educational -
War between Corrington and Oleon has driven the Beauchamp Ship Yard to capacity. To meet the demands of the Crown, additional shifts are being added to keep construction underway around the clock. This has introduced a new capacity problem, a lack of skilled carpenters. Undaunted, Admiral Beauchamp had a solution in mind. The newly opened Carpenter's School in Eltina (Large Educational License) provides the skillset needed to fill in the ship yard's additional manpower requirements. Once again, the Admiral has called on one of his veteran's, Captain Marcel "The Little Warrior" Renoir. Beyond his short stature, the name comes from his firey temper. Just the man to oversee a program taking in sailors with dubious backgrounds (certainly not meant to imply piracy) and whip them into professional craftsmen. The curriculum begins with basic woodworking skills, either to be validated or taught depending on the student's aptitude. From their, students move upstairs for the classroom portion, to learn the technical art of ship design. Work crew chiefs from the ship yard rotate through instructor positions to keep their skills sharp and for a break from the stress of the pace in Breshaun. After a few weeks in the classroom, the students move downstairs for practical application. The war ship cross section is clearly the focal point of the facility and a great aid for teaching the lines of a good ship. As a final exam, students demonstrate their personal skills and ability to work on a team in constructing a launch. With success comes a position as a carpenter in the Beauchamp Ship Yard.

Beauchamp Shipyard's Ship Mast Plantation | large plantation -
On the outskirts of Eltina, the Beauchamp Family has built a large plantation to capitalize on the Jewel's unique climate. The slopes running into the water and the calm breeze of the island's South-East coves are ideal for the most strategic of military resources to be grown: the tall straight pines necessary on capital ships. Chopping down the great monsters is the easiest part, hauling off and getting solid contact with the base of the trees, woodchips flying... And when those big trees collapse, splashing down into the water... very satisfying... The mess is trimming the branches. Up to your knees in the water, waves tossing branches all about, angry birds, sap, crawling over branches to reach where they meet the trunk, a real mess. The Beauchamp Family owns and operates the Eltina plantation as an extension of the booming shipworks in Breshaun. Masts are selected when ships are ordered, hand picked by seasoned carpenters, cut on the appointed day so that the trimmed trunks can be ferried around the Jewel to the shipyard for final trimming and curing. The large plantation (licensed) allows the craftsman at the Beauchamp Shipyard to protect and deliver on order the most vital and hard to secure of a ship's resources.

On the "Jewel of Oleon" today was a martial spectacle of music, marching, and news from the front was capped off with a recruiting drive. With the whole city watching, young men came forward to sign their name, take their oath and join in the Crown's ranks. Breshaun's very own Retired Admiral Beauchamp gave am impassioned speech, glossing over his own distinguished career, he spoke instead of his pride in knowing his 3 sons, known through the city as "The Lion's Brood" were all serving in the campaign in Terraversa. Eager citizens signed up with the recruiting Sergeants and took their place in formation in front of the stage The recruiting Sergeants were all smiles, polite, and enthusiastic. But the recruits could not help but notice that the Sergeants standing in formation did not seem nearly as happy to see them... In fact, they seemed downright mean...
