Heroica RPG - Quest #69: The Hook on the Other Hand
Palathadric replied to CMP's topic in The Heroica Archive
"I can't think of anything else that can be done here," I offer. I peer out the window one more time, and look closely at the windows of the next house and then up and down the house we are in as well. "Do you know what kind of building that is?" I query, pointing at the building where, presumably, the assassin leapt from. "Is it a factory, an inn, apartments?" -
I bet none of you knew that Monk Pretzel's cross was actually to symbolize lifestealer, eh? Can anyone guess who Pretzel's god is?

So Guts begins his move to power. Can't wait to see Hybros, Guts, and Docken on a quest together again.

"Did you accompany him on any of his more recent meetings? If so, with whom did he meet?" "From the way it curves, it seems possible that it could be the axe, but if so, Rorik was almost certainly dead or unconscious before the blow was dealt. A dagger certainly makes more sense. Here, take this robe." I hand Sylph the Robe of the Archmagi and pop the Tricorn onto my head. I suddenly feel like a cleric again. I quickly pick up my shield. "So, demon, it seems like you will be receiving this Mulled Wine. To get the most out of it, I'd drink it in one shot." I toss the Mulled Wine at Dreyrugr. Turning away, I smirk. My hand grasps the steak in my cart for a brief second, and then I turn back to the scene at hand. -

"Erik, you may as well keep the Twin Axe for now as well, since none of the rest of us can use it. Inspect it carefully to see if it appears to have been used recently. Again asking, who would like the Mulled Wine? Would anyone refuse it if were offered them?" I read through the notebook entries. Hmm, it seems like our victim was in the middle of a Shadeaux and Hinckwell confrontation. Likely enough that has something to do with the murder, but possibly not." I turn to Sofia, "What kind of business was Rorik involved in? What did he trade? I suppose you did not attend his business meetings, did you?" -
If anyone actually needs gold it's mages and clerics.

"Druid, since you will the healer among us due to the extraordinary talent of doing so in your field, I would advise that perhaps you give that hide to Erik. You can then use my Robe of the Archmagi to protect you from being sealed. What say you? Also, if you'll be using those scrolls, perhaps you should equip those glasses of yours and hand the hood to Erik since his artifacts don't seem too powerful, but it's up to you." -
There's intimidation as well. What other knightly qualities do you want? I really don't think it would make sense for a black knight to defend his whole party. I do find it a bit odd that Black Knights would have a special that deals damage to all enemies, though, when neither rogues nor knights have that skill. Inflicting negative effects could be interesting, but may be a bit underpowered. I think it makes sense for them to gain gold, but I'd hate for clerics to be the only class who can't upgrade to a gold-earning advanced class.

"So who wants a drink? Who is adverse to such things? Erik, I think it makes sense for you to take this mead, I heard you asking for a drink downstairs, and I know you're into this sort of brew. Mulled wine, anyone? Ranger? Demon?" I smirk, wondering what sort of effect the mulled wine would have on the vampire. Half his health? Hopefully. "Hmm, druid, what can you determine about the wound? Could that axe have done it? The axe doesn't appear to have any blood on it, so if it the working of the axe, then whoever did the deed had time to clean the blade and somehow thought that doing so would protect him or her and confuse matters. If it is not the axe that dealt the wound, then likely the victim saw the assassin and was trying to defend himself. It certainly appears as if there has been a struggle." -
Wow! I'm only now imagining just how powerful Arthur would be if we were going by the old rules of scrolls. He could target four enemies in one turn and have 100% chance of applying whatever effect he'd like from his arsenal on them. Scary!

"Well, I suppose we should be on our way up then." -
Thanks, so much Hinckley. It always interesting to read this kind of detailed player analysis. I had a fair bit of time at the beginning of the game, so I really tried to throw my all into and put in the time necessary. I also saw the way that no one knew who the others were, as an opportunity to play a sort of leading role for the town. Apparently, I didn't do too well at it, but can't blame me for trying. Also, I saw this as possibly being my last chance to play mafia in a while. I don't know why, but somehow it just seems to take a long time and a lot of study for me to form any conclusions in mafia, and if I don't have that time I seem to be quite useless. So I think unless I know for certain that I will be able to invest a fair bit of time into it, I will probably not be playing for now. I think every game I am learning new things about note-taking as well and making my note-taking more effective, so hopefully that will help in the future. After Day 2 real life caught up with me, and I found myself dropping to the byline somewhat. I think I really should've contacted Zeph about the "conflicting roles," but Nightshroud seemed to say that Zeph was really after me, and I guess that kind of made me scared. Originally I wanted to vote for him more to see how he would react, but then later on I thought he seemed really scummy. I think you can safely say that I learned my lesson about night actions. I will never be embarrassed like that again...I hope. Fhomess, I really should've known you were Dillpickle. Your devotion to role-play is wonderful, even if it's only posting with beeps and clicks and letting Brickdoctor translate for you. You really are one of my favourite players. It's just your PM right after you accused me that threw me off into thinking you were scum. You didn't really sound like you were trying to understand what was happening, but more that you were hoping I would trip up so you could pile the pressure on me. I guess I shouldn't have been so paranoid. You and Peanuts have been two of my favourite players since the Jedi Temple Massacre. I honestly thought that you were Lulu, and I thought Catalina was Peanuts. Tamamono, you were great fun, and I appreciate how you always seem to have such faith in me being town. Somehow you never struck me as being very serious this game. I never really did get a scummy feeling off of you, but we were having a hard time finding scum amid the people we lynched, which made me wonder if my whole thinking process was off and if you really were scum. Walter, I really liked how you played the game in general and I don't think I ever really considered you scum. It was great that you spoke to me early by PM and it would have been greater if we could have found out each others roles. When Belinda told me she knew the vig, you immediately popped into my head, but there was already talk of two bodyguards floating around, and I didn't want to look like I was fishing for roles since my position seemed a bit precarious with Belinda having revealed me to Barkonius, but not him to me. DarthPotato, it was great playing with you and I was horribly disappointed to see you die just when we had begun to have some good communication going by PM. King of the Zempk, I really couldn't quite understand what you were trying to pull on me and the others at the end of Day 2. Was there some plan behind it or what? I have to say that I was horribly frustrated that you didn't flip scum. The role PM deal was provided a little weight to vote against you or at least so I thought at the time, but I think I would've done so anyway. Interesting, that I wasn't in contact with any of the scumsters by PM. Did anyone else find it obvious that Boris was Cornelius Murdoch? On Day 2 I totally thought it was him. Too bad I decided to protect Scuba over him.

"Of course he is," I growl a little under my breath. I should have known. This is already looking like it will be more of a problem than my last time leading a party. "So, your mentor was a merchant of some kind? Did he live here in Eubric or was he only here on a business trip? Where did you meet him originally, and how long have you been working with him?" I scan the area. Not any of the people around me look like people I would like to converse with. The bard seemed decent enough, but Erik seemed to be managing him well. "This place doesn't seem of the highest repute. I would assume that your mentor was relatively wealthy, why did he choose to dwell in such a place as this?" -
There is an easier way...change classes.

I arrive at the inn fashionably late. I approach our employer. "Greetings my lady. It seems I'm not the first one here." I nod towards Sylph and Erik. "So quite a troublesome business, eh? Was your mentor slain in this very inn? Are all these folk here regulars?" I look towards the left side of the room. "I wonder if good fortune may be on our side. Three suspicious individuals holding low conversation together. One of them appears to be a vampire as well. Where did you say your mentor was cut? In the neck possibly? Could it have looked like a bite more than a slice? That's how vampires kill their prey." I spy Sylph by the bar. "Greetings once again, Druid, I see you have gotten here before me. I'd watch out for these drinks if I were you. Don't know what they could carry in an unsavory place such as this. I don't believe you have told me your name, and if you did I must have forgotten it. I see Erik over there by the bard. Have any of the others arrived? I believe we were supposed to be a party of five in all." -
While I agree with you, we do have quite a number of Black Knights, so apparently they aren't opposed to the weakness of the class. Yeah, I'm thinking hard about that and other things. Do I need to buy any more consumables or are we good? Searching, searching, searching through stats...Whatever!

"Mizuki, take care of yourself and watch out for that Lycan/Romulus fellow. Remember, when on your quests to always keep the main mission in mind, and don't be distracted by the smooth words the opposing party may use to get you on their side. All the best!" I rush off.

If you're busy, you can't be suspicious. That's what I've learned. -
"Well, Alexander, I can understand your feelings, just consider what an awkward situation you could put your party in. I would advise trying paladin. It is the ultimate class for aiding one's party. A great defender and a healing class at that. Furthermore, enemies' special have a decent chance of not affecting you at all.* *I think...

"Yes, but protecting is the role of a knight. To train as a Black Knight is to shirk that role and then to allow blows that you are meant to absorb with your shield to strike your fellow heroes, that is betrayal. As Docken said, Berserkers are much more devastating to the enemy than Black Knights and they can be called upon to protect the heroes when need be. When can never fully count on a Black Knight to be there when you need them. Mystic Knight is another class like that, but I wouldn't advise going that way simply because magic is too risky an element to wield, if you understand. Black knights are only really devastating against a few select beings. Put a black knight against a flock of demons for instance, and he will be well-nigh useless. I look into your eyes and I don't see the kind of hero who would knowingly betray his party, I just see someone who is bored of the role he's been given in life and wants to try something more exciting. Remember, knight (I don't believe I know your name), that with the honour of being called a 'hero' comes the responsibility of abiding in your calling. You are a knight and are therefore called to protect your fellow heroes. Don't run away from your calling seeking something more 'exciting.' Remember you responsibility to others. You have a powerful shield and you are meant to use it to the betterment of others. Let the barbarians and the rogues dish out the damage, you protect them so they can keep doing so. Each class of hero has his own responsibilities. Do not rush too quickly to fill another's role to the abandonment of your own." "I apologize for my lack of perceptiveness. Your movements just didn't strike me as being very natural and masking helmets can do strange things to one's looks. You seem to speak well, for the most part, and there is certainly a good deal of truth to your words. So, druid, is it? Would you happen to know one Erdathcath? A wood elf, I believe. She plied her trade as a druid when I quested with her, but I haven't seen her since."

We win!!! You've got to be kidding me! Let me guess...male human rogues, right? I guess being undead is what makes you look more digital than real. Nah! He'd kill Dreyrugr and consider himself "rid of the ancestral curse." All the while clutching that steak in his hand. ...How old is Sorrow actually? Is he older than Pretzel? I thought they were around the same age, but I don't see Sorrow's age in his statistics page.
