LEGO Star Wars 2023 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Kit Figsto replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
If I remember correctly, we got three new molds with the Cantina - Garindan, Ponda Baba, and Labria. Ponda Baba was mandatory for that set, Garindan was a highly requested character for a while, and fit in really well with the other building that were included, and Labria, while less well known than the other two, was probably one of the most logical background characters to get from the scene. Assuming we get a Sail Barge, and assuming it's MBS style, I think your list pretty well proves that you can make a list of 20+ figures before you get to any that require a new mold. I agree that Saelt-Marae and J'Quille would be most logical, but other than that, I don't really think a new mold is necessary. I'd honestly never even heard of any of the other characters you listed (though I did recognize the Ishi Tib species from some of the TV shows), whereas most of the Cantina background aliens each had close up shots in the movie and have had action figures of them for the better part of 40 years. Anyway, with respect to the set, I'm still a bit confused about how it is supposedly 6,500 pieces, because the image we got looked nowhere close to that, even with an interior. I would assume if it's MBS style, it would include the Sarlacc and at least one, possibly two, skiffs, but that's probably 500 pieces max. I mean, the UCS Star Destroyer is only a little over 4,000 pieces, and that thing was massive. Like, I know it's a preliminary image, but even if it were a prototype, it would have to at least resemble the final product, and it wouldn't make any sense to make it substantially smaller than the final image. Would you even need 6,500 pieces for a Sail Barge? -

I really like this set, from what I've seen of the pictures. I've never seen the series, but the art style looks great, and I feel like this would make a really cool display piece. It's definitely expensive, though, so as much as I'd like to get it, I think I'll have to wait and see. -

Ah, okay, I didn't know the EB user was the source of the photos as well. I assumed it was from the same survey but a different person leaked the actual pictures. I agree, it's really strange, especially because there were without a doubt NDAs associated with it, so I can't see LEGO being particularly happy about it (unless the conspiracy theory that some people have suggested is right, which was that they purposefully leaked these to gauge fan reaction about which ones would sell. Seems iffy to me, but you never know). Anyway, it's just kind of bizarre, since the sheer amount of work that would have to go into making a dozen fake sets (all of which are thousands of pieces) that include new minifigures and new molds, AND all of which appear to be in the style of real LEGO sets (which is probably the most difficult part to do, since people who are that good at building are typically going to stray away from the LEGO style, especially if they're making that many sets) is nowhere close to the actual return one would get from that, which is...roughly a week of notoriety on a LEGO message board and a tiny subsection of Instagram? Like, I fully understand the skepticism with these, but it's also way too elaborate to be a troll in my opinion. -

Yeah, it's definitely strange. I'll quote Falconfan1414 from the Disney thread, though, saying: "Temper expectations because I don’t know how many of these sets will actually release. I would say none of these are 2023 and it’s all for 2024. Like if this is fake I’ll applaud whoever did it because this would be one of the best fakes I have truly ever seen. This has to be one of the most crazy and biggest leaks. I didn’t believe it at first I’ll admit but I think we have a large chunk of 2024 d2cs" So it seems like there is some credence to this (especially because with the Disney leaks, the original descriptions that the EB member posted include details that match the images that we have). I guess it remains to be seen whether or not these are all coming, and if so, whether they're for 2023 or 2024 and what changes may be made. -

To be completely honest, I'm really not seeing the big difference in design between these and live-action helmets. With Rex I can see a bit of one (but I think that's more of a limitation of LEGO bricks recreating an odd shape than the actual design), with Cody I really don't see much of one at all (probably because the clones were CGI anyway and the helmet design lends itself a bit more to LEGO). There's some minor stuff with like the shaping of the visor and stuff, but again, I think that's more an issue of LEGO pieces not being perfect to recreate certain angles. Anyway, they look good, and I'm hopeful this means we have a Rex figure on the way soon. -

The list above says Thugee cultist and Maharaja guard as two separate figures. My assumption is that the Thugee cultist is one of the guys in the red robes/black turban, while the Maharaja guard is either some sort of mistranslation and it's the head guard (shirtless guy that Indy fights on the conveyor belt) or it's the Maharaja, and I have no idea why "guard" is included in that. -

Okay, based off of this, my guess is that it'll be the left section featuring the entrance and boulder (I'm not sure if we're getting a skeleton or not, since that may or may not be included in the minifigure list? It seems like sometimes they count skeletons, other times they don't, so it's still possible the set includes one). I assume this section also probably has to include the closing door, since that's an easy way to also have the boulder track suspended in the air, like the 2008 set had it. The middle section probably features the rope swing pit, and maybe the arrow platform. I'm assuming the right side will either be entirely focused on the idol room, or will be the idol room plus the arrow platforms. I would say it depends on whether or not the three sections are equal in length, or if the middle is shorter. -

This seemed like pretty much the only logical choice assuming that they were going with a minifigure-based set. I'm wondering how it'll be laid out. I assume it'll probably be a more elaborate version of the 2008 one, since the important parts are the hallway with the boulder, the rope swing pit, the arrow trap, and the actual room with the idol in it, but AFAIK we haven't gotten any 18+ dioramas this large yet, so I have no idea what kind of scale we're looking at. I think the closest would be the Jurassic Park one, but this is nearly double the price. Anyway, I'm glad it's coming, though I will most likely skip it, since I have the 2008 version and would rather spend that money on the other three sets in the wave (as I have none of the original versions of them!). That just about covers most of the big scenes from the original trilogy with the exception of the truck chase, motorcycle chase, rope bridge battle, and Grail temple. (Not even going to count the tanks, since there's a 0% chance we get them as a set). To me, that sounds like a perfect grouping of four sets for another wave of sets, so here's hoping... -

Ah, but you're forgetting that "Uncle Harlo" was actually an alias used by one Ahsoka Tano following Order 66 Anyway, on the subject of the sets, the different box sizes of the $15 sets makes me think my theory posted to the Wishlist thread is more plausible. I won't repost the whole thing, because it was sort of long, but essentially, every other "series" of sets (be it battle packs, microfighters, planets, whatever) used consecutive numbers if they were released at the same time and had the same price point. These sets all are being released at the same time, but one of them (I think the one ending in 63) has a number that's separate from the others, a much lower piece count than the other three, and now we know has a different box size. I think it's very plausible that it's, for whatever reason, just a random $15 set, whereas the other three are part of some sort of new series of sets. Just a thought. -
Cool stuff! I've really wanted a set similar to the Hovertank set you made for a while now (with a section of Jedha City). I also like how the U-Wing has the ladder to connect the cockpit to the troop bay area. I have the official version, and while I love the set, I have to say that's one thing I wish they'd manage to incorporate.

Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Kit Figsto replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
Oh, to be clear, my "rebooted" comments were in reference to the LEGO theme itself, not the franchise. Since this will almost assuredly be the final movie, unless they were to do a TV show or something based on the franchise (without re-casting Indy), I cannot see LEGO ever bringing this theme back after this iteration of it. It's possible that we get some 18+ or D2C type sets down the line, as they've done that before with TV shows/movies that aren't actively in production (the two Friends sets, for example, were based off of a TV show that ended fifteen years ago). But, every other time we've gotten a full licensed theme from one specific franchise, there's either movies or TV shows that are actively being produced for that property, at least at the time they start the theme. Basically, point being that if they don't continue this theme beyond this year, I feel like this would be it for LEGO Indy, other than possible D2Cs or something. It's possible that if we got a TV show or spin-off down the line, they could do what they've done with Jurassic Park/World, where most of the sets are based off of the new films, but there are a few based off of the original, but I feel like we can't bank on that happening, since it requires new material coming out from IJ. -
Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Kit Figsto replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
It isn’t downright the most iconic, but I actually think the opening of ANH has an argument. From talking to people that saw it in theaters in 1977, it was sounded awe-inspiring and like nothing anyone had ever seen before. Now, does it top the “I am your father” scene? No, probably not, but I do think talking of “franchise defining” it is certainly close, at least in terms of setting the audience up for an adventure unlike pretty much anything else. Regarding the Indy sets, I’m intrigued by it being an 18+ set. I sort of hope it isn’t a large scale version of the Idol/Grail/Shankara Stones (although all three in one set would be neat). I really want this theme to do well and last another year or two, since I highly doubt it gets rebooted again after Indy 5, and I feel like starting off with the Hovitos temple or something would be more of a guaranteed slam dunk seller than a straight up display piece. -

I’m surprised they haven’t done more from the Dark Knight movies. The minifigure scale Tumbler that came out in the fall of 2021 seemed to fly off the shelves at first. It took me like two weeks before I could get it, and that was with me going to a LEGO store and checking multiple Targets/Walmarts. I’d love more TDK sets, especially since we still need Two Face, Ra’s Al Ghul, Thalia Al Ghul, and maybe even Rachel/Alfred. I also wouldn’t complain if they gave us another Gordon/Bane figure. I think the issue with the 60s series is that the Batmobile is super iconic (probably the most famous of any Batmobiles, being honest), but the series itself doesn’t really have a ton of relevance. The Schumacher films seem to be fairly controversial in terms of being well-liked, so that’s kind of a similar problem as the show. I do agree on the Burton ones, I know we got the Batwing D2C a couple of years ago, but I’m surprised we didn’t at least get one or two smaller minifigure scale sets, at the very least to get some of the characters at a more affordable price point. -
Wishlist: Future Star Wars Sets and Minifigures
Kit Figsto replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
On the topic of minifigure packs, this got me thinking about possible 3 figure packs I'd like to see at some point in the future, if they continue doing them: Stormtroopers - 3 regular OT stormtroopers. The build is probably some kind of turret. Sandtroopers - 3 Sandtroopers, two with orange pauldron, one with black. Also includes one of the little probe droids on a clear stand. Build is some sort of command station. Endor Imperial Troopers - 2 Scout Troopers and one Imperial trooper. Build is the desk inside of the shield bunker. Endor Rebel Troopers - 3 Endor Rebel troopers (maybe one is Nik Sant). Build is a small tree with a rock catapult. Ewoks - 3 Ewoks (maybe Logray, Chief Chirpa, and Wicket). Build is similar to the one above, maybe something representing one of the log traps they use? Rebel Fleet Troopers - 3 Rebel fleet troopers. Build is a door that can lift up, as a way to represent the opening of ANH. Scarif Troopers - 2 Shoretroopers and one Death Trooper. Build is the landing pad command station. Scarif Rebel Troopers - 3 Rebels. Build is a couple of crates and a palm tree. Jabba's Palace Guards - 1 Gamorrean, 1 Nikto, 1 Weequay. Build is a smaller version of the cannon on top of Jabba's Sail Barge. Geonsian Warriors - 2 Winged Geonosians, 1 without wings. Build is a miniature version of those circular Geonosian cannons. Gungan Warriors - 2 Gungans + Captain Tarpals. Build is one of the catapults from the Battle of Naboo. -
Wishlist: Future Star Wars Sets and Minifigures
Kit Figsto replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Oh, yes, I see what you mean now. I agree that it makes sense they're related, I just find the numbering curious. Like I said, I'm probably overanalyzing, but once I saw that first pattern, I had to keep digging into all of the times they've done some sort of "sub series" in the last decade or so, prompting that long post -
Wishlist: Future Star Wars Sets and Minifigures
Kit Figsto replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Just to clarify, do you mean that these specific $15 sets are fall releases, or that in the recent past we've never gotten $15 sets in the summer (I say recent just because I think we've gotten $15 battle packs in the summer, but now that BPs are $20, that wouldn't really matter here). -
Wishlist: Future Star Wars Sets and Minifigures
Kit Figsto replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Less of a wishlist, more of a place for me to speculate: With regards to the $15 sets, we now know that there are four with the same package size and the following piece counts: 75363 - {Unknown} / $15 / 88 Pieces / 6+ 75368 - {Unknown} / $15 / 139 Pieces / 6+ 75369 - {Unknown} / 155 Pieces / 6+ ($15?) 75370 - {Unknown} / 138 Pieces / 6+ ($15?) Now, on one hand, it makes sense that these four are some sort of new line, similar to planets or microfighters. However, what's odd is that 75363 has 50 fewer pieces, and is numbered differently, rather than ending in 67 or 71. So, this prompted some digging: - I went through all of the SW battle packs that have been released, and every single time that they released multiple BPs at once, the numbering was concurrent. The only time the numbering gets skipped is when they put out a single BP (like the Snowtroopers and the upcoming Clones). - With the microfighters, they also are numbered concurrently when released at the same time, with one exception. In January of 2019, we got 75223 (Naboo N-1 Starfighter), 75224 (Sith infiltrator) and 75228 (Dewback vs. Escape Pod), which obviously skips numbers, but is most likely explained by the fact that it's two single ships ($10) vs. a two pack ($20). This pattern also happened with the 2021 Millenium Falcon and the AT-AT vs. Tauntaun, but the Falcon was a January release while the two pack was a March release, so I'm not going to count it. - With the planets, we only got two waves of them (albeit large ones), and all of them had consecutive numbers. - The buildable figures appeared to use a different numbering system entirely, so the entire thing was uninterrupted and all numbered in order. - The action battles sets had two numbers that didn't match up, but they were also priced differently. So, that said, I'm not entirely convinced that these four go together. They really seem to like to group things together by number when they're part of the same series and released at the same time. The only exception here is if the price is different. I assume that the price of 69 and 70 is an educated guess, but it seems very safe given that the box is the same size as the others, and the piece counts are clearly in line with 75368. What does this mean? Well, nothing really, until we get more info. However, it seems PLAUSIBLE that perhaps 75369 and 75370 are indeed part of a new series (which is why the set numbers weren't part of the initial group of numbers that we got), and that, at the very least 75363, as well as POSSIBLY 75368 are just two $15 sets that coincidentally happen to be in the same wave (which is why we got their set number first). The reason that I suggest 68 isn't part of it is because an odd number for a series seems a little bit strange, though it could definitely happen. Anyway, this is probably not even correct and I'm just way over-analyzing nothing, but it is interesting to me that 75363 is both an outlier in piece count and in terms of numbering. It could be that 75363 is some sort of minifigure pack (which would explain the lower piece count), whereas the other three are some sort of series? -

LEGO Star Wars 2023 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
Kit Figsto replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
My assumption is that they moved away from the cloth kamas because it dramatically reduces the playability of the figures. At the end of the day, these aren't Black Series action figures, they're meant for play, and you can't sit your minifigures down if they have the kama on, or else you either damage the cloth or the figure falls over. This is especially an issue with sets that have space for figures in a cockpit or troop carrying area. People are inherently going to want to sit the figures down at some point. Capes have a similar problem, but aren't nearly as restrictive except when the cockpit area is extremely tiny. There's also no way that they're going to use two separate helmet molds just to close a hole up. Like, logically there is no financial gain behind them putting out another new set of molds when most people that care that much about it are probably already major customers of LSW sets as it is. I agree with your point about customization, and, like my previous point, it would also reduce playability. I remember as a kid when I had some original TCW sets, I'd take the extra visors/antennas and stick them on the basic clones, just as a way of making them different. I feel like I would've been kind of disappointed and definitely confused if I received the extra visor but couldn't stick it on any other helmets. Like I said, they're not Black Series figures that are meant to be 100% accurate and for display only - they're meant to be used, played with, swapped around, that sort of thing. Yes, I realize that there's stuff on figures that could easily be fixed (the new Boba Fett's helmet color not matching his armor, for example), but that's quite a bit different from very minor discrepancies between the placement of a chest armor plate in a movie versus on a minifigure, or whatever. There's just not going to be that total screen accuracy that you get out of the expensive action figures meant more for adult collectors. -
Looks fantastic so far! Love the curved plates as the riverbank, it gives it a really nice depth and feel of motion on the water.

Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
Kit Figsto replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
I think the trouble with the Indy theme is that it doesn't have the same amount of source material that Star Wars, Marvel, DC (yes, I realize LEGO is massively underutilizing the DC theme at the moment), Disney Princesses, or even Harry Potter has. With Indy, there's only the 5 movies, and the fact that the series doesn't necessarily lend itself to sets as well as others. I can only think of a handful of vehicles/locations/scenes that haven't been made as sets already, so the problem is that there's probably only 5-6 total waves worth of sets even possible, though I guess we don't know what the Indy 5 set potential looks like yet. However, if they were going to keep it going, they'd pretty much have to do it after this 2023 wave. Indy is popular, but I don't think it's popular to fully re-boot the theme if there isn't a movie coming out. Since this is the last one, if the theme doesn't keep going, I think we can assume it's gone, maybe with the exception of some one-off Brickheadz or adult-focused diorama type stuff. -

I think the last time was in January/February-ish of 2020? It was the most recent General Grievous Starfighter that, for whatever reason, leaked extremely early with a super blurry picture. If I remember right, that was the year where we got official pictures of the Razor Crest in like February, 501st set in April, the AT-AT in May, and then didn't get the rest of the leaked set pictures until like early June, which was really bizarre since it was just the Grievous set that leaked so early, and we didn't even fully know the other sets we were getting until March or April. Now that I think of it, I want to say that the Final Duel and Resistance Transport set were both completely unknown until the full wave pictures leaked, so I have no idea how that one set managed to slip through the cracks that early. -
Disney Properties 2022 - Rumors & Discussion

I think Haunted Mansion characters would be be well-known enough to warrant figures (I've seen quite a bit of merch featuring them lately, actually), and I think a Jungle Cruise skipper is also pretty recognizable. I realize technically there are movies based on both rides, but I feel like most people would associate it with the park anyway (and honestly I don't know if any of the characters in HM actually show up in the movie). That's probably about it, though. You could maybe do a generic cast member or something, but I think if they went with a non-character, it'd be Walt Disney. -

I'm predicting that these sets will focus more on the early Disney stuff, with Mickey/Mickey-adjacent characters, rather than specific movies from later on. Maybe a set based on an Oswald cartoon with Oswald and Ortensia (okay, this might be my wishful thinking, but it seems plausible), something with Sorceror Mickey from Fantasia, and then if they were going to do something based on a princess movie, I'd bet Snow White (because it's the earliest one) or Cinderella (just because it's probably the most famous. -

Since we didn't get any news from D23, I wonder if the February Toy Fair (I forget if that's New York or Nuremberg?) would be when they might unveil a set. That seems like a really good opportunity to show one of the large sets based off of the original movies, since it won't have any spoilers and will get people excited about the theme's return. Then again, I don't remember if they even have the Toy Fair anymore, and if LEGO still unveils sets at it or not.
