I am convinced that there is some kind of chain reaction that happens. Decades ago, I used White Brick, Modified Facet 3 x 3 x 2 Top to create terrain. Only the exterior facet was exposed to any kind of light. However, years later, the entire part started to yellow, even the inside surfaces that had not seen any sort of illumination for a long time.

LEGO Creator 2021 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
hagridshut replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I think that it appears goofy because the proportions are so unusual for a LEGO mech. I have the "Igor" Iron Man mech from the Iron Man Hall of Armor set on my desk, and it's fairly square: the height of "Igor" measures roughly the same as the span of its shoulders. The primary build of the Space Mining Mech appears to have similar proportions. The skinny alternate build, on the other hand, is absurdly tall in comparison to its width. Some reviewers noted that this alternate build was difficult to pose because its height made it unstable and easy to tip over. The weirdness of the build appeals to me, as it stands out from more conventional mech builds. -
Which creator 3in1 modular buildings do you rate the best?
hagridshut replied to ks6349's topic in General LEGO Discussion
My favorite is 31050: Corner Deli from 2016. I used some plates to expand the first floor to have some tables and countertops for customers to eat inside. The building just has a beautiful balance of detail, color, and playability. The current Toy Shop and new Surf House are great additions for anyone who likes the 3-in-1 buildings and missed out on earlier sets. I don't own either, but based on the videos I've seen, they may even be a bit better than the Corner Deli. Overall, I prefer the 3-in-1s to the Creator Expert, for affordability and space reasons. -

JANGBRiCKS review of 31115: Space Mining Mech The super tall alternate build is my favorite, because it's a bit unconventional and I like the brick-built alien pilot. Jang also shows that a minifigure can sit under the canopy of any of the 3 builds. -
I have many pieces that are discolored at different rates. Intensity, angle, and amount of time of sunlight exposure seems to be related to the pattern of discoloration. While it did initially annoy me that some of my white bricks turned yellow and blue bricks turned a greenish hue, I've just accepted it now as an unknowable event. It never crossed my mind as a child that sunlight exposure would affect some LEGO pieces this way, but have no effect on other LEGO pieces. My belief is that in the future, the only pristine and color accurate models of many old LEGO sets, will be high resolution 3D digital representations.

Better Than Expected: 76125: Iron Man Hall of Armor. I bought this set because I could get it on discount and it had a lot of pieces that would be useful for space station MOCs. I ended up really liking the details on the minifigure prints, and a lot of the small stuff like Tony Stark's computer workstation, Dum-E droid, and jetpack. Not as good as expected: 6932: Stardefender 200. This was one of the few larger sets I owned as a child. I remember thinking that it looked super cool from the photo on the box. However, after assembling the ship, a few things irritated me. The central section didn't have a whole lot of usable volume despite the giant canopy, and I was annoyed that there were only two 1x1 tiles for the computer controls. It seemed to be a low amount of computers for a larger space ship. I disassembled the ship pretty quickly to use in MOCs. Although I didn't end up liking the ship as much as I hoped, the collection of pieces was great for building other stuff.

LEGO Creator 2021 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

Those are good points. It is just discouraging to me, because I do not have a favorable opinion of the Space Shuttle. If LEGO wants to inspire children to explore space, the Shuttle doesn't seem like the best representative of that enterprise. The Space Shuttle never lived up to its promise of making access to Low Earth Orbit inexpensive and commonplace. It was overly complicated, had serious design flaws resulting in two fatal accidents, and cost NASA a lot of money over 3 decades. While I must credit the engineers and scientists who managed to make the STS work, despite such serious problems, I cannot help but feel that the program as a whole set back the U.S. efforts to send actual people to distant worlds. -

I don't know why LEGO has such an obsession with Space Shuttles. They're old news. The last STS mission was something like 10 years ago. There's a lot of exciting things going on with space now: modern SpaceX Dragon capsules and reusable Falcon 9 rockets, SpaceX Starship prototypes, Blue Origin's lunar lander concept and New Glen rockets. Real life Space may soon look a lot more like old SciFi than many people expect, especially with the proliferation of vertically landing rocket ships. -
The stacking style from the Creator Expert Modulars is pretty much the only way to go for making spacious and detailed interiors. The primary issue with the 2018-2020 style of construction (With one side of the buildings open for access), is that it is difficult to make something playable that also has a deep interior. So everything ends up being shallow in at least one dimension. Offices and classrooms become cramped spaces that can fit 3 minifigures at most. The obvious advantage of the 2018-2020 style is cost. Modularizing everything would have put the sets out of the price range of most families. I do agree with this. There are dozens if not hundreds of sets from the 80's and 90's that I never got to build, or see at a friends' house. I also lost and broke many pieces from my old sets, and replacements are not always easy to find. It makes me wish that LEGO had some kind of super vending machine that could replicate any piece ever made, on demand. There are a bunch of sets that I would order re-created if I could.

How to best start building up a part collection?
hagridshut replied to Mars Arka's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Today, I think the best way to get started is to buy Creator 3-in-1 buildings and experiment. Many sets are moderately priced, but provide a wide array of useful pieces in nice colors. Something like the new Surfer Beach House (good review here: https://youtu.be/h7Nx3jP1PkA) is what I would recommend for beginners. -
I'd guess that collectors probably don't care about the remakes, especially if they have no intent to ever sell their prized vintage HP sets. Even people who buy and sell LEGO to earn money, would probably not be impacted much. The old sets retain their rarity. I could see re-issuing the same design causing some consternation among buyers/sellers, but it is unlikely that LEGO Group would ever re-issue the old HP models. The new ones are generally an incredible step up in design and detail than the ones from 20 years or even 10 years ago.

High quality renders of the Space Mining Mech are up on the LEGO website: https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/space-mining-mech-31115 Says: $24.99, Coming Soon on March 1, 2021 Full review: https://www.brothers-brick.com/2021/02/17/exploring-other-worlds-with-lego-creator-3-in-1-31115-space-mining-mech-review/ I wasn't a big fan of this initially, but having seen the close-up photos, I think it's a winner. The primary build has some very nice features. I wasn't expecting that the mech could accommodate a minifigure, but Brother's Brick states that the AI model can be swapped out for a minifig. The jetpack is a nice design. I like the fact that the color scheme is consistent with the Space Rover Explorer. Overall, I am somewhat reminded of the Futuron Futuron Strategic Pursuer 6848-1 With the Space Rover Explorer, Cyber Drone, and Space Mining Mech, it seems like LEGO has a mini-Space theme revival going! -
This is so funny and heartwarming too! Being an astronaut in deep space is a tough job, but I'm sure having access to tasty pizza makes things easier for them

LEGO Creator Surfer Beach House 31118 review from Jangbricks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7Nx3jP1PkA There are 2 sets of hinges that open up, allowing for some interesting display options. Overall, a nice build and good collection of pieces for MOCs. -
Great work! The kitchen with cabinets and appliances is my favorite part of your build. I also like the modular style design with easy access to each floor.

This is really great, especially the perspective in the 3rd frame with the tiny boat in the distance containing micro-figures on the left. Nice details on the micro-scale Hogwarts as well. I see the Whomping Willow and boathouse docks!

As long as Harry Potter is popular with children, I think we can expect remakes every few years for the foreseeable future. Over the past 2 decades, there have been 4 editions of Hagrid's Hut. I missed the first 3 sets, so I was happy when LEGO Group decided to sell the Hagrid's Hut "Buckbeak's Rescue" last year. My collection of LEGO is modest, as I don't go for complete themes. I only buy a set or a revision if I really like the improvements. Or if I want more pieces for a MOC related to that theme.

[MOC] HP Diagon Alley - Eeylops Owl Emporium

Great work! I like the artifacts in the abandoned shop, and what looks like a poster of "Johnny Thunder" on the wall. The uneven roof shingles and floorboards really give a good impression of disrepair. -
LEGO's inexplicable design decisions
hagridshut replied to AmperZand's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I think that unused wheel attachment was probably supposed to be for another finger. Odd design decisions don't annoy me. I find them funny, and also an opportunity to use my building skills to improve a design. -
I grew up with LEGO sets in the 1980's and 90's, and I don't mind the numbered bags and step-by-step instructions packaged with today's sets. Many of the old large space sets, like the Alpha Centauri Outpost (From Blacktron II in 1991), are simple in comparison to a modern large set like Pirates of Barracuda Bay. The color palates are much more varied than they are today. Similarly, I don't find literal interpretation to be much of an issue either. Many kids end up disassembling their sets and building their own MOCs out of their pool of bricks and pieces.

LEGO Sci-Fi Ongoing - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
hagridshut replied to Lyichir's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
The updated "original" Space Police officer looks great! The armor portion seems to have attachment points on the back for accessories (like the handcuffs piece that looks clipped to the back). -
Wow, this is great! It really feels like an old fashioned Wizard bank, with the underground goblin vaults, ornate offices, and teller desks. The chandelier at the top of the high ceiling is a nice design.

This is really cool. I'm definitely picking one up . Really glad LEGO is using Creator to "revive" a bit of the old Space stuff. -
Very nice design! It would be fun to build this, fill it with Harry Potter minifgiures, and install an LED lighting kit. That would make all the colors of the candy really stand out.
