  1. I’m pretty sure he had short legs, I don’t think mid legs had been released by then. They were introduced in the first Harry Potter series and series 17 came before that.
  2. How do you decide which Doctors to put in a CMF? How has Hallmark been deciding on what order to release the Doctors as keepsake ornaments? Based on popularity and demand. And in the case of a hypothetical Lego CMF, who goes best alongside similarly popular companions and monsters. “This format isn’t big enough to include all the characters at once” is literally the weakest reason why Doctor Who shouldn’t get a CMF. It would also apply even more so to any sets, but that didn’t stop Lego from producing the Ideas set or for everyone here from wanting them to put out more sets. All “12 characters isn’t enough for all the Doctors, never mind companions or monsters” means is that Lego has more than enough material to work with, and could easily do more than one series if it’s well received.
  3. I don’t think enough people here appreciate the fact that there might not actually be much more space in the boxes. For example: -Can you fit a cannon in the new box? -Probably -Can you fit a cannon plus all the rest of the parts for a Minifigure in the new box? - err… maybe? -Can a machine put a cannon and all the Minifigure parts in the box while consistently not having issues with things jamming in wrong and spilling out? - almost certainly not We need to remember that the ‘empty space’ people are eyeing in the boxes is a least partially wiggle room to allow a margin of error so the packing process goes smoothly. The bags were never packed to capacity and 99% of the time the boxes for full sized sets aren’t either. So I’m genuinely confused why some people are assuming that the switch automatically means more accessories.
  4. Exactly, that why you have to know ahead of time - so you can get to the store early when it starts or place your order as soon as it goes live on shop@home. I’ve been planing purchases around these things since the micro Diagon Alley gwp when the theme rebooted in 2018, and in past years there’s usually been delays between big releases and promos. I’m fine with that, but not knowing for sure whether we’re lookout the promo starting on September 1st for the VIP release or four days after for the general release is making me antsy.
  5. Has Lego done licensed Icons sets? Like, obviously I know about things like the Friends apartments and the Queer Eye set, but did those set numbers show up as one of many on a list of Icons sets? Genuine question by the way because I’ve been wondering much the same thing. It’s been awhile since lego put out the Doctor Who Ideas set, so between that and the new Disney partnership it would make sense for them to retest the waters to see what kind of response the theme gets and how receptive the public would be to a full line of playsets. A larger Icons set based on the TARDIS plus maybe a cmf would let them do that.
  6. So if the promo coincides with the release we could get more info at any time now then. Fingers crossed there’s something in the next week or so. At the very least I’d like confirmation of the dates it will be available so I know when I’m heading to the Lego store.
  7. Ah yes, the time of inevitability having to go the eBay when lego introduces an adorable new animal mold in a series where it’s impossible to feel what you want. I’ve been mentally preparing myself for that.
  8. How far ahead of time do we typically see leaks for those anyway? If the promo coincides with the release we might see something soon. I’m really interested to finally see it. With all three movie vaults in the big set, it’s hard to guess what the gwp will cover and therefore what minifigures might come with it. The original speculation was that it would be one of the two SS vaults with scruffy hand-me-downs Harry but both ended up in the set so who knows? Has there ever been any possibility that it’s not actually a vault but instead something completely unrelated?
  9. From what I’ve seen, he saying less “I’ve seen something that unambiguously confirms this” and more “it’s not written in the set lists like a licensed series would be, and using ‘space’ for an unlicensed theme’s codename wouldn’t make any sense, so this makes the most sense”. Occam’s Razor says he’s probably right, but themed unlicensed series have been on so many peoples’ wishlists for so long that I refuse to not remain skeptical about it until we see something more concrete.
  10. Nobody knows at the moment, it could be an unlicensed space themed series, a licensed space themed series, or even a totally unrelated license that ‘space’ has just been used as a codename for. Whatever the case, there’s also a completely unknown September series slated, so I think between them we’ve got at least something to set our hopes on even if nothing is concrete yet
  11. Yeah, the blind boxes are a real bummer, I get why lego is doing it, but it’s a real bummer that they weren’t able to make paper bags work. I consider myself lucky that I’m not interested in Marvel or collecting full unlicensed series - I can sit back and watch how things go on eBay and bricklink for at least the next two series and see whether buying from a reseller or getting a full case and selling on the extras is more viable for me if there’s ever a full series I want a full set from again.
  12. Just looked at the advent calendar again and realized that Rosmerta has grey legs when the original in the Hogsmeade set has black. That means that all the figs in the advent calendar are technically unique, although two (Harry and Rosmerta) don’t feature any new prints.
  13. Finally got to see a pic thanks to a Brick Fanatics article. Lots of food, tan snot bricks, a sand green dish piece, brown and medium nougat bricks, wrought iron fences, wooden inserts for small arched windows, dark green foliage, pumpkins, an old trunk, a spider web and several black spiders in addition to the bats and cat. All and all a solid spooky pack good for gothic architecture buildings, or even just a slightly dark castle. Plenty of serviceable parts for Harry Potter collectors who might want to moc something. Rather ironic that it’s getting so much interest in the classic space helmet in purple that’s included, since pretty much everything else is unrelated.
  14. Ooo, where’d you see pictures of that? I missed out on the last Halloween vip bag and they tend to have some decent parts for beefing up the Harry Potter theme.
  15. Apparently, most of the sets survey takers saw were already released, so I’d say the survey was all about getting a control group.
  16. It never even occurred to me that the rumored ‘Space’ cmf might be a code name for Doctor Who , but I support it’s not impossible. I think we can all agree that if lego wanted to start a Doctor Who theme it would be best the involve a CMF. Fingers crossed for May or the as yet unknown September series.
  17. That kind of price per piece ratio tends to go with large molded pieces and extra prints though. A buildable object is kinda the exact opposite of that - they tend to go over the average ppp ratio, not significantly under. I think the key here is that any 18+ set is going to be a decently sized display piece, so what we need to ask ourselves is what display pieces would feature lots of large molded (and likely printed) pieces. That’s why first thought was the Drumstrang ship, the 2005 version featured some very large molded parts. That said, I do recognize that a cool sailing ship is not the sort of thing that would have lego slap an 18+ label on it. Perhaps we’re finally getting a proper diorama set with a quote? If they did something like the Troll in the bathroom or the Fluffy encounter with new molded parts for the creatures I could see that causing the numbers we’re looking at. It occurs to me that another option is a battle of the 7 Potters diorama. I personally always thought it doubtful they’d ever do a full version of the scene since it would be a pretty hefty price tag for relatively few pieces, but that’s exactly what we’re seeing here.
  18. From what I remember those sports series didn’t take up a normal cmf ‘slot’ and since they represented real people they would legally be licensed. This seems to be more like the series based off the various Lego Movies, technically a Lego property but filling one of the three yearly cmf slots that would normally have gone to a licensed property.
  19. The post lists the January release 71045 as “Series 25” and the May release 71046 simply as “Space” so I imagine this is separate from the standard numbered series.
  20. If Lego had finally finagled their way around the action figure exclusivity contract that prevents Star Wars CMFs I really doubt this is how we’d find out. More likely is that lego realizes that a bunch of us are only interested in specific genres that appear in the numbered series, and might be reticent about buying true blind boxes when we can’t try to specifically get what we want. An obvious possible solution to keep AFOLs buying CMFs is themed unlicensed series.
  21. I do hope the Buildable Stitch rumors are true, I was rather disappointed when that Ideas submission was rejected.
  22. Falconfan has posted a list of Harry Potter set numbers with piece counts and prices from brickmerge on Instagram: 76424: $14.99 (165 pcs) 76425: $19.99 (337 pcs) 76426: $37.99 (350 pcs) 76428: $74.99 (896 pcs) 76429: 18+ $99.99 (561 pcs) 76430: $44.99 (364 pcs) 76432: $29.99 (172 pcs) It’s not clear whether these are our typical winter wave or not. Set numbers that are definitely as late as may have leaked and some of the City set names I’ve seen leaking look more like their typical summer style subthemes. Either we get two full sized waves this year or Lego has decided to give up on the smaller winter waves and this is mostly it. 76427 and 76431 are notably missing, possibly one is the advent calendar and the other a large D2C - both would be 2HY. Also notable is the remarkably low piece count on that $100 18+ set - dare we hope for a Drumstrang Ship with molded hull pieces and fabric sails?
  23. The sad thing is the rumors kept claiming that was already happening in this Marvel series and now that the full pictures have dropped it cleared just hasn’t. Echo, Storm and Beast have significantly few accessory pieces than rumored and there’s no sign yet that Moon Knight and Mr. Knight come with alternate heads+hair. There’s really nothing in this series that couldn’t have fit in the old bags, so the likelihood that lego will be doing anything with the boxes beyond checking off another step towards sustainability is getting slim. But who knows, maybe an unlicensed series will push the boundaries a bit. I do think it’s worth remembering that the quality control lego must have for packaging means that the boxes would be required to have a certain amount of empty space, so it’s hard to say if we’re actually looking at any appreciable increase in volume from the bags.
  24. Nothing at the moment. We don’t even know anything about next year for sure yet, although there’s apparently rumors about the January release being unlicensed - which would fit after getting two licensed series in a row. But not a peep about what licenses next year might hold. We almost certainly won’t see a repeat of this year’s licenses (we’ve never got the same two years in a row iirc), but there’s no telling whether we’d see series 2 or 3 from a previous license or something entirely new. Unlike some other people, I think that a Harry Potter series 3 is possible - there’s enough material for it, especially since the cut the number of characters down to 12, and it’s a popular theme that lego can legally sell individual figs for (sorry Star Wars fans). But ultimately which licensed series are made is determined by Lego’s legal and marketing departments deciding what they can sell us and who will sell them the right to make it.
  25. I think it’s a close call between this and the 2020 Yule Ball one, but yes, the designers have finally listened and gotten back on track with what we want in an advent calendar. Exclusive outfits that wouldn’t fit in a regular set, introducing new characters, multiple exclusive prints, minifigure scale builds that can recreate a small scene or enhance a preexisting set, and properly winter themed to boot. Also, there’s definitely some Zonko’s inspired stuff here. Could we possibly be so lucky to get a Zonko’s + Hog’s Head Hogsmeade expansion next summer? Or perhaps Wizarding shops are going to be the new ‘gimmick’ sets.
