  1. thanks! look at the lego trains in 4 wide topic for each of the locomotives. @LEGO Train 12 Volts
  2. the shed now has a roof, and i have lenghtened the moving part so it actually fits the locomotives. i have also made my little diorama with the bucket chain excavator into a module: and i have made the brick factory into another module: these will all eventually connect together, the rail on the left will be for a train where visitors can ride through the different parts were these cute little railways were used. a Mining section with a tunnel is also planned.
  3. Since there are many field railway collectors out there, and there are even museums dedicated to this topic, i wanted to make one in lego, its completely fictional, but does bear some resemblance to the ones that exist irl. starting with an engine shed (not complete yet) more to come, it will probably be more of a compilation of past mocs put together in a way that makes some sort of sense, rather than a fully new thing.
  4. thanks @Feuer Zug! there were two types of cars, the ones i replicated seem to be a newer style, and are really smooth irl aswell, there isnt a lot of detail there. the older ones would have had much more detail, but i couldnt find a good picture. might need to search for the soviet narrow gauge trains topic, as the older style ones were also used in the soviet union.
  5. yeah i dont have room either, but its still fun.
  6. these are the coal cars these locomotives transported. a small train (in reality they towed a lot more of them)
  7. the mine cars will get a little larger, the dumpcars i made are too small for it. but good idea!
  8. these old iron core transformers can put out more voltage than expected, especially since they were wound for 220V/110V nominal depending on region, and not for 230V/120V nominal like it is now. They dont have any voltage regulation on them, just the transformer going into a rectifier, going into a capacitor to smooth out the voltage a bit. Modern switch mode power supplies can control the voltage themselves, and are much smaller and more efficient since you are running the transformer at a much higher frequency than 50/60Hz. Regarding the connectors: you can get these from electronics stores aswell, they are just 2.6mm connectors. id preferably even replace the cables, if you have issues, maybe even with a ticker gauge, depending on how long your cables are and how much load you have. You can see what happens when your connectors if they have too much current on them by looking at nvidias melting power connector.
  9. Today i made an oil fired powerplant, complete with Tank cars, and cooling towers. it is inspired by one near where i live (nowadays only for emergency use to keep the grid up). hope you like it!
  10. thank you!
  11. Yesterdays build: an lew el3 mining locomotive. These were used in large above ground coal mines, they ran on 1200V DC, and could run either with Overhead wires or Side mounted wires for loading wagons in the mine. There are some that are preserved, and used for tourist trains. One railway uses a generator wagon, since the electric lines are long gone.
  12. yes my smart is a 2021 electric, in black, just like the one in the image, only mine doesnt have the full led headlights. i went from a 22 year old 75hp renault to the smart. it feels like someone lit a rocket. 82hp vs 75hp might not sound like much of a difference but the 82hp feels like atleast 120hp.
  13. thank you!
  14. since i now own a smart car myself, i decided to make one from lego. mine is one of the last gen ones, in black. (NOT my actual car, but its the same essentially) lego already made several different ones of these small town car cars (for example set 3177), but they all are modeled after older smartcar models so i decided to change it a bit to fit the newer models style i also made a 5 wide version, but i dont like that as much hope you like it!
  15. no. the real e320 doesnt have jacobs bogies no. they are seperate ones.
  16. today i was bored and made a 7 wide more detailed version:
  17. exactly. its economics of scale. and at that scale you want to reduce the bill of materials as much as possible.
  18. honestly looks fairly good for your first moc. things id change/add is make the cars be closer together and have something on the undercarrige. also make the raised roof on the cars less tall, that makes them seem a bit too stubby (i guess you looked at the lenght of the lego Set where you got the nosepiece from?). i see the german version of the e320 almost daily, so yeah. another thing to work on is the alignment of some of the pieces, its just off, some stuff is inside other stuff, happens to everyone sometimes.
  19. i now have made switches, the 3d file is from someone on thingiverse, just edited to be with the correct connector, imported into stud.io. the files are all here: https://e.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=kZCKIdZtBSP7PtYv0Vs8bOkaSVXKz1HJ1Sy link to the thingiverse creator: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5272675
  20. thank you!
  21. thank you both!
  22. today i made the battery fully enclosed and i took better pictures, along with a render: here is the real thing, with its battery for scale (it can also use two for extra speed as the servo is for 5v and two will give it about 6v, but one looks more prototypical). and here is the video: https://www.flickr.com/photos/145736297@N05/54437179289/in/dateposted-public/
  23. my first attempt at making the locomotive self contained, it uses cr2032 coin cells, you can use either 1 or two of them depending on the speed you want. here is a short video, still need to figure out how to enclose it all, sorry for the video quality, its not great, its already dark out and lighting wasnt the best. https://flickr.com/photos/145736297@N05/54434565844/in/dateposted-public/
