This might be a stupid question but it it possible to retrofit the stock 42009 into this without having to take it all apart? I don't want to spend too much time at this and i know how long it took to build the original. Never mind had a look at the partlist and seems like i have to. Oh well i'll hold of on this for now. I have other things i wanna do first. Anyway thanks for making this. It looks really nice.

I saw it. I hope it will be easier to use than Flickr which too me as a newbie is a mess. Maybe i'll find my way eventually but now i just might go with BSA? instead. On that note: what will the shorthand for Bricksafe be? It can't be BS since that's taken. OK now on to more useful questions. -
I don't think they're coming back. They are way to heavy to be used in most vehicles, especially motorized ones. I for one hope for more sets with the unimog wheels. I doubt the container truck will have it since it's a 1H set but hopefully the flagship will. A truck made with those would be really sweet.

OK Didn't think cables were made that way. -
RCX 1.0 Brick with USB tower?
EyesOnly replied to DrJB's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Somehow i doubt there will be any problem. The 1.0 if i remember correctly came with a charge jack, at least some versions but other than that i think it's the same thing just newer software. Might need a firmware upgrade but that is not hard. -
Now i really like that container truck. I don't think one as ever been made as a technic set, certainly not recently. The fact that it's PF-ready but doesn't have it means that the price will be lower. Think something like 42006. OK maybe not that low but still nice. The rest, well i'll wait for pics before commenting more.

So i was optimistic about the amount of trouble to expect. Not impossible since it was so long since i built this thing that i had to look at the pictures to remember just how it worked. -
If it's the flagship then it most likely will. Container trucks are cool and can be really versatile with all the different. But if we are talking about 8057 then that is often called a hook lift truck. When i tried searcing for real vehicles i mostly found things that look more like the B-model from 42009. Have a look. http://www.dreamstime.com/stock-image-container-truck-image16369951 That would still be nice and seriously big if made in the right scale but nowhere as much fun as a hook lift truck.

Is my RCX useless now

Ok forget what i said about running this thing under linux. The program will start then hide behind other windows after changing the resolution to something much lower than 1440-900. Clicking outside of the window resets the resolution to what it should be. Since i installed the program last time many times using different configurations i'm thinking that the most working version must have been in a virtual windows. I'm gonna try that now. I will still need the adapter since if the host can't recognize the tower, neither will the virtual system. BTW feeling a bit bored i also tried to get Vision Command to work. It failed in exactly the same way as Ris 2.0. BTW i did get some error message about running out of memory but found not one but two rather helpful guides on the subject. They differ slightly in how they present the help so i link to both. I wont run into any problems in the virtual system so i wont post about it. Hopefully on monday i will have my adapter. Now i just need to think up something to program. -
Reviving an Old RCX Remote

Mine seems to work but i can't be sure until i get my tower working. I don't have a remote to test it with. -

What on earth did you do to make cables rot so quickly? I have rubberbands from the 80:s that still hang together even if they are dry. I doubt computer cables rot that fast. As for running mindstorms under linux i have almost gotten the original program to run. The problem was the tower not being recognized. After quitting that dialog i came to the login screen but didn't proceed since due to the tower not being there i couldn't really do anything. One thing i did notice was that it messed up my display setting by changing the resolution. This does nasty things with the icons on my desktop so i'm thinking about running the program under a virtual windows installation instead. But i'm getting curious and since Mindstorms RIS doesn't have a page under wine's appdb i'll install the program again and then see if i can get to the programming part. Should hopefully work. -

Now that sure is an unusual moc. Looks nice but i would never dare to wear those in public. -

Now that is a tough looking model. Kinda scary too seeing it in the dark in the beginning. Nicely done. -
Lost art of orienting bushings?
EyesOnly replied to torso's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I usually put the notched ends towards the opposite bush so as to "clamp" whatever is besides them. Besides having the rounded end outwards just looks better so it disturbs me when newer sets violate this "rule". Hmm i didn't know about that ridge thing. I'll have a look and see how many of those kind i have. -

I ordered an adapter on monday and was hoping to have it by now but i don't so it looks like i have to continue waiting. I downloaded the drivers for it had a look at the linux section. Weirdly enough there was only drivers for redhat and none for ubuntu. Oh well guess i'll just have to plug it in and see what happens. Kinda standard procedure anyways. Here is a link to the product page. http://www.logilink.eu/showproduct/AU0002B.htm Not sure why some of the text is in german. Must not be translated. -

Thanks for catching that. I'm new to flickr so stuff might not work as intended. Try now. I've changed the permission on at least 2 items. Link 3 works here. -

Thank you. I'm still waiting for my beads to arrive and are parting out some sets and work on my sorting system while i'm waiting. I have however started building a GBC-module but will hold of on the details until it's finished. What i do know is that it doesn't seem to work with marbles. The can't be lifted by it. -
It is not the transmission ratio so much as the clutch gear that is preventing heavier lifts. And if you change that into an standard 24t gear then the integrity of the crane structure itself could fail. This model simply isn't very strong. If you want to lift heavy weights i suggest building your own crane, but i have no idea how to make a really powerful one.

[MOC] Swingloader Mark Two

True for the parts and this being a great moc. For me the only problems was the BB and engine block. The engine block is a minor problem in this case. It would be nice if some 2014 set would have the BB. -

Well the instructions does say to use cut gear instead of 16T gears. So just use 16T gear and don't cut or drill if you prefer. Look at page 9 to see what i mean. Edit http://rebrickable.com/mocs/Denver3000/rc-swingloader -

Yeah the AAA BB seems to be needed in a lot of mocs these days but the thought of getting one plus 6 AAA batteries to go with it is off-putting. The batteries would probably need to be rechargeable since they will not doubt end up in crawlers and that makes it even more expensive. I've used up my Lego budget for a few months but was thinking about getting one of the cheaper train sets. This way i'll get a BB, the train remote and lots more pieces for about the same cost as the rechargeable BB. It'll still go through it's fair share of batteries. This is the second moc, the first being the Tarantula, that i have to hold off building due to the AAA battery box. Still i can understand why it is used. I tried building a replacement made from a old BB but that failed. The plan was to put a converter cable on top and then use plates and beams so that it became the same height as the AAA. The width and length already matched. The problem was that while a converter cable can be used to power a PF-motor, it can not be used to power a receiver. I tried using it on 9398 as a test before taking it apart to build the Tarantula. The receiver never switched on and the servo was silent. Connecting a motor worked. Then i remembered that Philo had written about this long ago. So now i know not to try that again and that i really need to make 88000 the next Lego purchase or a set that has it. Hopefully the 7938 passenger train wont disappear too soon. It it the cheapest set i can find that includes it. -

I did a quick look at the plans and they look great. I will surely build this someday but not right away. Hope it will be on rebrickable soon so i can see if i have all the parts. BTW regarding cutting a differential. It would be a lot easier to simply drill out the hole in an ordinary 24T gear. I imagine people have lots more of those than diffs. Edit Crap just reread the first post and realized that i'll need the AAA battery box. Oh well it'll be a while then.
