  1. Great little vignette!
  2. Thanks a bunch for those @TalonCard! I was looking at the images Bricklink had for them and did notice that it looked like they were just scenes, but I agree, they are a lot of fun!
  3. This truly is a fantastic thing @TalonCard! How you've managed to weave a semi-coherent story out of all of the incoherent data is a thing of art. As I commented elsewhere, it was both fun and informative! I certainly learned a few new things. And discovered a few other sources I need to seek out (for example the 4 Juniors mini-comics, I didn't even know those existed). I'm going to have to re-watch it a few times to catch the other things I surely missed on the first round. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the following episodes.
  4. The use of Vidiyo heads is brilliant and the result looks so delightfully fun. I almost wonder that with the completely outlandish color scheme of most of the Vidiyo sets (which I love BTW) if you couldn't have gone equally outlandish here!
  5. Condolences... I mean congratulations @Professor Thaum!
  6. Thanks for all those links @TalonCard I've just started looking through them. I'll spend some time browsing everything this weekend probably. Some really great models there!
  7. Thanks so much @TalonCard this is truly fantastic! I definitely want to give it a go at building the parrot as well. The instructions are a little vague in a couple places, but it should be simple enough to work out I think. The other thing I really was looking for in this issue was that article blurb about the Pirateland addition to LEGOLand Billund. You can see how clearly it's based off of Eldorado Fortress. I've been collecting other information and photos that I could find about it as well. This video gives a great view of the ride (along with some photos).
  8. Those comic scans are fantastic @TalonCard! Thanks for those. Please let me know if you're able to locate the magazine and scan it in full. I've reached out in a number of different areas for it and have gotten a couple of replies that they thought they had the issue, but as of yet no one has actually gotten it done. It is much appreciated!
  9. This is a long shot, but do any members here have scans of the Brick Kicks magazine from the 1980s and 90s? Or physical copies that they are willing to scan? I've scoured the internet for them to no avail. Specifically I'm looking for scans of the Spring 1992 issue. Other issues would just be of general interest. BrickTsar has videos showing the contents of a number of them, which is great, but scans is really what I'm after. I am also aware of the scans available at miniland.nl however those are all incomplete. Thanks!
  10. I have to say, that the raft in the 1788 Treasure Chest set is just super awkward. In fact, that entire set is just plain odd in it's design and build. Feels like such a mish-mash. Buttt... I am glad to have it in my collection, the Islanders just wouldn't be complete without it! My favorite raft overall is probably 6261 Raft Raiders, due in large part to the sail and the small rigging pieces. But the nostalgia of 6257 Castaway's Raft will always hit high.
  11. That's a very good catch @TalonCard and I agree, definitely some good evidence to my theory.
  12. Very cool idea and well executed!
  13. Haha, that's the truth! While I do love the comic and the artwork in it, it's always bugged me somewhat just how little beard Red Beard actually has in it! The Ladybird books are a little better, but not by a lot. I never caught the use of Roger before in my reads of the comic, I'm going to have to go look at that again!
  14. @RedbeardsCove curious if any progress on this project of yours has been made?
  15. Hello all, As I continue to dive down into some of the history of the classic Pirates theme, certain questions pop up into my head. I was going through my copy of The Golden Medallion comic today, and it dawned on me that all of the wording in it is definitely in line with the US naming scheme of sets and characters. It got me thinking, did the UK version of the comic alter the wording in it to reflect the UK naming conventions? Some examples from my US version of the comic: It's Captain Red Beard, not Captain Roger. The pirate's ship is the Black Seas Barracuda, not the Dark Shark. Governor Broadsides ship is the Caribbean Clipper, not the Sea Hawk. Their fortress is Eldorado, not Sabre. Do any Eurobricks members have the UK release of the comic and can verify the naming conventions used? I know that the Ladybird books (which I also have) which are a product of the UK all use the naming conventions from the UK (Captain Roger, Dark Shark, etc). I also know that some of the non-English language comics did use names that fell in line more with the UK conventions (I only have scans of the German and Dutch comics to check). I also know that there are images from LEGO of the comic being called The Golden Sovereign in the UK English version, but from what I have seen, that seems to only be a mockup and that there was never an English version of it actually published with that title/cover. Does anyone have input on that? Thanks for the help from the community experts!
  16. This is a great little tutorial! As a SolidWorks professional I always appreciate seeing the interaction of what I do in my dayjob and my hobbies.
  17. Following up my own request from over a year ago, here is what I've managed to collect for actual photos of the box flap stories. This is only the stories from the Bluecoat era (1989-91) as that's where my current needs are. If anyone has better photos to share it would be appreciated.
  18. Sorry, not sorry to resurrect a dead thread - but did anybody happen to download these scans and can share them or re-upload them somewhere? Thanks!
  19. Thank you both. I have been hard at work on my large layout for the convention coming up in March. The primary Pirates layout will be a minimum of 6 feet in length, but I can easily go up to 8 feet if I have enough continuous table space. I've been working on a large amount of ephemera and additional things such as informational plaques to add to the display to really flesh it out. I'm also taking the initial steps to experiment with adding some lighting to the display. In addition to all of that, I've also taken on adding a full display layout of the Islanders! This has been a fun secondary addition to add into my plans. I really can't wait to see the culmination of all of this coming together and to be able to show it to you all!
  20. Not only is this a great little build with a lot to appreciate, but the comic backstory is absolutely spectacular! This certainly made a splash in our waters!
  21. She's a beauty of a ship for sure!
  22. I mean... obviously New Jersey would be built out of Duplo!
  23. This is a really wonderful model! Would be a beauty to see actually built in the brick!
