  1. An upgrade on my Wizard's Spire Castle MOC originally built in December 2021, now with: - Mils plate style grass base - Mountain - Alternate colour scheme (Dark Red roofing) WS Original 3 - Upgraded by Samuel Sheppard, on Flickr WS Original 4 - Upgraded by Samuel Sheppard, on Flickr WS Original 1 - Upgraded by Samuel Sheppard, on Flickr WS Original 2 - Upgraded by Samuel Sheppard, on Flickr Thanks for looking!
  2. Brickvention 2023 took place over the weekend (January 20 - January 22) at the Royal Exhibition in Carlton, Melbourne. Below is my display, some photos of Dave Cameron's epic castle, and a Rivendell MOC (builder unknown). 3. Well done! Simple but elegant architecture and colours.
  4. Nice! Clean & crisp colours and architecture.
  5. Thanks heaps Lord Dan! It was a bit of fun doing 2 colour schemes. Re the feedback – I’m sure you’re right, and I will have to give it a shot varying up the heights next time . I am a sucker for symmetry when building, which can sometimes impact too much on realism.
  6. Iragm & MAB have nailed it, and I'm sure everyone is hoping for that eventual 'drop' in price. I think there is also some element of a predatory business practice - capitalising on the die-hard Castle fan base who eat the Castle minifigs and accessories up! I guess that ties in with 2. being Greed. What I take issue with is this: Lego knows which Elements are going to be in demand (I'm thinking of things like the cow & forestmen's hat). To address part availability they choose to crank the prices up, instead of cranking production up to meet demand which they can clearly foresee.
  7. [MOC] Black Falcon’s Towers / Red Dragon's Towers Pieces: 1,680 Inspirations: Colour scheme from Royal Knights’ Castle (6090). The jumper plate battlements design is taken from Brother Steven’s “Rosewood Hall”. This was also my first time building rocks, which the castle sits atop. I have also done two colour schemes: 1. Blue roof & Black Falcon minifigs: Black Falcon’s Towers 2. Dark Red roof & Dark Red & Black minifigs: Red Dragon’s Towers Thanks for looking. Sheps. 8. I had a look at PAB yesterday as I am keen to get some of the minifigs, accessories, animals, etc… from 10305. The Cow, one of the pieces I am interested in, was up (but out of stock) priced at a whopping $17 (AUD)! A mould that the Cow is probably similar to in size and plastic quantity is the horse, priced at $7.90. If the Cow was fairly priced I think it should cost something similar to the horse (even $10 feels reasonable). $17 is straight up price gouging, and when it does actually become available to purchase I will only be able to justify buying one.
  9. Thank you for your kind words Feuer Zug!
  10. Middle Eastern Palace MOC - with MILS Plate I originally built this quite some time ago, straight onto three 16 x 32 baseplates, and needless to say it was very flimsy. I have given it a revamp by building a MILS Plate style base, using the tan masonry bricks. The model is now a lot sturdier and easier to move around. 12. Bold colour choices, extravagant rock work, and a really cool shape - excellent work! Also 35k pieces!?
  13. Excellent architecture and those colours (in the landscape and building) work together so well. Keep up the building in these rare architectural styles - no one else is covering them and the results are great :).
  14. Well done! Great architecture & good colour combos. Reddish brown & Olive green work together nicely :).
  15. Thanks Yoggington! Using outward facing studs for detail is a technique taken straight from master Castle builder Brother Steven. It does not have an interior - the floors are built straight on top of each other which I did to save money on plates - but it could easily be re-built as a modular building with a layer of plates & interior for each floor. Thanks Feuer Zug! I'm glad you enjoyed the mix of colour - the colours are quite different to the dark and drab colours I usually gravitate towards.
  16. Red Falcon's Castle Floors: 3 Pieces: About 2000 Inspirations: Old school Lego Kingdom's Castle sets Red Falcon's purchased from my local Legoland (Chadstone) BAM station Red Falcon 1 by Samuel Sheppard, on Flickr Red Falcon 2 by Samuel Sheppard, on Flickr Red Falcon 3 by Samuel Sheppard, on Flickr Thanks for looking! 17. Well done, looks beautiful! Excellent colour selection. Built in a very distinct architectural style - mostly Middle Eastern, but is there Mesopotamian influence as well? Sheps
  18. Thanks Zoth 33! I tried to keep it fairly true to the original so I'm glad it looks like the old school! The colour scheme on the official Lego Dragon Fortress was really pleasing so it was a no-brainer to just keep that. Sheps. Thanks Feur Zeug! I'm glad you could sense the Orient Expedition Feel - they were some super classic sets! I just wish my MOC had that raised baseplate that they had on the classic 7419! Sheps.
  19. Dragon Fortress MOC Pieces: approx. 1,294. Modular building with ground floor, 1st floor, 2nd floor & roof. Inspirations: Lego 7419 Dragon Fortress. This MOC is my take on the classic Lego Orient Expedition set, which was quite easily the best historic Asian building produced by Lego (imo). 20. Thanks for your comment Redhead1982. I have seen plant vines on castles work before, but it would not be to my liking on this particular castle. I believe it would clutter the model and detract from the clean & crisp look I was going for. Very fair point in relation to it being built on a 'concrete' slat! I put that down to 2 things: 1. Laziness. 2. No experience building scenery and landscapes. When I get some scenery/mountain building experience under my belt, I might need to move the castle! Sheps.
  21. This is cool! I like the imposing nature of the build and its texture! I was also a big sucker for Warhammer back in the day but now prefer the sturdiness and reusability of Lego. Sheps.
  22. Thank you gotoAndLego, glad you like it! Sheps.
  23. Thanks a lot Captain Braunsfeld! More pictures are available at my Flickr here. Thanks 12 Volts! Brother Steven's Aldingham Keep served as the basis for the shape (i.e. narrow and tall). Building upwards (as opposed to outwards) does have its benefits, the main one being saving space! Thanks in relation to the colours - they do seem to be a pleasant mix. Sheps. Thanks Sarophas. I do know what you mean - building landscapes/mountains is something I haven't tackled yet, but I know it would benefit from being built atop one! Sheps.
  24. Thanks TLG!
  25. Thanks Ayrlego! With your Lotii Pagoda you did more than just inspire me - you built something so awesome I needed to have one myself! The colours are slightly different, and the Dark Green roofs yours has are gorgeous. I went with Dark Brown on mine just because I had a lot of it on hand. I would love to see the Middle Eastern Building you come up with! I love seeing representation of Asian and Middle Eastern buildings in historic MOCs. The Reddish Brown dome was taken straight from Pete Strege's Mollusk Mosque, so that is also a good source to look at if you're thinking of building a dome similar. Sheps
