  1. That would be terrible. Personally I think Barad-Dûr is plenty recognizable on its own. The Eye is just part of that (for the movies at least) and plenty of people would be very happy with a D2C Barad-Dûr set, even after Orthanc. They’re completely different That would work really well I think!
  2. The crystal piece works just fine for the phial, but I think a molded piece would clearly still be better, although not entirely necessary
  3. A Lothlórien D2C similar to Ewok Village would be awesome. The largest section would be Celeborn’s and Galadriel’s flet, with other flets around it. And then have the mirror scene on the ground, and the boats as well. All with accurate scenery builds too
  4. Not everything. Start with the more recognizable stuff, and when the theme gains traction add some things that are more for fans I’m not talking about things that they’ll realistically choose based on what the casuals would recognize. I’m just talking about what objectively would make for great D2C sets. The whims of the normies are irrelevant to what actually makes a good set lol.
  5. I’m so scared for that answer…
  6. I still think Meduseld would the best D2C option for LOTR. There are so many minifig opportunities including a function to cure Theoden. Such great potential. I think the second best option aside from Barad-Dûr would actually be Minas Morgul. There’s Fell Beast potential as well as Witch King, other Nazgûl, orcs, Frodo, Sam, Gollum, and a hauntingly beautiful aesthetic for the build
  7. LegMocLoc is an amazing LOTR MOCer, this Rivendell is incredible and I would love just a scaled down version of this as the D2C
  8. Price plus piece count point to microscale but I still just can’t see a microscale Rivendell being THAT huge. Again, it’s not like Hogwarts with massive towers and walls. It certainly has plenty of large structure but not large enough for a microscale version to be very big. Without seeing it, the only thing that makes sense to me is a play scale set that just uses a lot of smaller pieces in specific places like rooftops, windows, rocks, trees, water, etc. idk I just can’t see a microscale Rivendell being much bigger than an Architecture set
  9. Barf. I highly doubt they would do that though. Troll, sure, the cave troll from before is amazing. But they would do a brick built Balrog I’m sure, maybe with some new molded parts mixed in to capture the shape well
  10. I think that would be ideal. Something focused on lots of minifigures while also having a detailed and complete build. And Rivendell is already perfect for that concept because it’s so open already, and rooftops could be made to be easily removed
  11. I think when most people say “minifig scale” they actually mean “regular system play scale”. Maybe a better term would be “minifig compatible”.
  12. I wouldn’t want a forced perspective type of set. The location deserves to be really done justice, and focusing on one section while the rest is forced into a microscale background sounds terrible to me
  13. I’d rather see a Durmstrang Ship honestly. The Lovegood house isn’t interesting or iconic enough for a $100+ set in my opinion
  14. There’s no way a GWP will have those figures. Honestly I think the best thing to do would be to make the Lestrange vault part of the set, and then make the GWP Vault 713 with a reused Harry minifig or something
  15. If the GWP is the Lestrange vault, it won’t be included in the set I would imagine
  16. Most of the sets sound pretty good, it’s about time we get some rendition of the Battle of Hogwarts. Hopefully it doesn’t disappoint. No idea what to think of Expecto Patronum, could be some gimmicky set I guess. Gringotts is finally happening!! Weird that it’s more expensive than the other DA set. Hopefully it includes the Ironbelly
  17. They were on back order about a week ago too
  18. I plan on buying it regardless. I will buy any LOTR products they release. But I know I’m in the minority there so it doesn’t help the cause if they don’t make the set desirable for more than a small group of people
  19. All I know is that if this D2C doesn’t have minfigures, and plenty of them, a lot of people won’t buy it and the theme probably dies there
  20. It’s certainly a good question. I can only speak for myself in saying I would absolutely buy sets from RoP even though a lot of it didn’t work for me. Like I’ve said, it’s not black and white, it wasn’t wholly good or wholly bad. But even if I couldn’t stand it, I would probably enjoy lego sets from it. It’s the same with Star Wars sequel trilogy sets. Didn’t work for me, but had great lego potential and I wish they would make more sequel sets. Unfortunately plenty of people only see in black and white so who knows
  21. I’m not sure anyone has confirmed March 1st specifically. All they’ve said is that it will release in March
  22. If the Rings of Power show brings a new generation of fans to the books, it’s done its job and I’m very happy for its existence for that reason alone, if nothing else. That’s what it’s all about in the end. Anyway, once again, I digress Bolg is definitely one of the characters we were robbed of in lego form. Overall, The Hobbit definitely had more complete coverage in lego than LOTR did. So the list of missing characters is much shorter. But Bolg is certainly one of them. Azog with armor is another. Would have also been cool to get a flaming armored Sauron from Dol Guldur
  23. I actually disagree with this interpretation pretty drastically but I’ll leave it at that to help drop the lore discussion (which is not easy, Tolkien lore discussions are very hard to walk away from). As far as sets, I think lego would be crazy to center a reboot mostly around the show at this point. I think the best way to handle it would be to reboot it as LOTR and have a couple RoP sets here and there if they wanted to.
  24. Even in the books, Gondor wasn’t exactly in its glory days. I think the missing element was Dol Amroth. Prince Imrahil and the Swan Knights would have certainly added some regality and might to Gondor in the film.
  25. I would certainly be happy with sets based on RoP, but not at the cost of sets based on LOTR
