Lord of the Rings Ongoing Discussion
Balrogofmorgoth replied to Momotof's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
It does look like it’s possible the table is partially obstructing part of the set. It’s possible. That’s what I’m hoping. Would hate for the final design to be a downgrade from that leaked prelim. Fingers crossed for all the figures -

There’s no bridge visible. If it’s there, it’s hidden somehow. But theyre not in the teaser picture -

I don’t think it’s fake, but it was a preliminary image, and the final design may have some differences. I personally hope those differences are mostly due to distortion and partial obstruction though -

I don’t see any bridges. Maybe they moved them to the other side? -

It looks like they cut out the bridges, the waterfall, and some trees. That’s disappointing. I desperately hope they didn’t cut out any figures -

I don’t count Comic Con exclusives or in-store build promos but I do count polybags and Brickheadz as far as my own collection goes. I also don’t count the Dimensions sets -

I don’t generally like Brickheadz but I had to get the LOTR ones -

Honestly I don’t see why it shouldn’t go under licensed themes if it actually returns. If it doesn’t there’s no point -

I would also add that displayability shouldn’t be the only factor in releasing LOTR sets. There should also be a huge focus on minifigures, and if that means some sets focus more on figures while others focus more on builds, that’s fine with me. I love both -

In my opinion LOTR is fantastic for many different styles and scales. It fits everything. Architecture style sets would look great, system scale playsets would look great, large scale and highly detailed D2C sets would look great, display helmets would look great, CMFs would look great, battle packs would look great, mosaics would look great. It fits everything. I think what most people (myself included) want most are system scale play sets, since they appeal to the widest range of people and are accessible to more people. I think that plus a D2C here and there is a great place to start. I think only having a D2C and nothing else is unwise for lego and could eventually backfire, causing the theme to die again. Rivendell has the advantage of being the first LOTR set in ten years. Three or four D2Cs from now people might get tired of forking out the money. I think regular playsets are the way to go, with a D2C here and there. Whether lego realizes that in time, who knows -

I’m sure we would have already heard about a GWP if there was one. -

It’s not terrible but a fell beast definitely deserves a new head mold -

I really hope not, it doesn’t look anything like LOTR Orcs. WoW Orcs sure but that’s a totally different take. That jaw piece on LOTR Orcs just doesn’t work. Orc mouths are supposed to be disgusting not cartoony -

I adore the aesthetic of the Rivendell set. It’s absolutely gorgeous. And they absolutely exceeded my expectations on the amount of figures!!! Dreams really do come true -

There’s still no confirmation that the Barad-Dûr set will actually happen. Let’s not count our chickens before they hatch. But this is definitely a really good sign -

Looks like Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin, Gandalf, Aragorn, Boromir, Legolas, Gimli, Elrond, Arwen, Gloin, Bilbo, and two unidentified Elves. And Gimli and Gloin have a new molded axe!! The Hobbits look to be barefoot as well -

Look, I remain extremely skeptical, but @Clone OPatra isn’t wrong, I didn’t read all the information. I’ve honestly never heard of sets like this going through a survey process in which actual images of a design make the rounds that early in the process and end up seen by anyone here. If that’s a thing, then it obviously changes how I would look at the situation. But it’s definitely the first time I’ve heard about it. We’ve also been burned many times on “reliable leakers” information that by urned out to be completely wrong, which is why we should still take every piece of info with a grain of salt until lego confirms it with reveals I also don’t want it to get lost in translation that I would be absolutely thrilled if this was true. It just seems a little too weird to me right now, but I would be more than happy to be wrong -

Reliable sources can be wrong, it happens all the time. If there is a Barad-Dûr D2C set coming and there are images circulating, then it would stand to reason that it is releasing fairly soon. Two D2C sets back to back for the same theme (also a new theme) is highly unlikely so if it’s true then most likely Rivendell is not the set releasing in March. But that’s still a huge IF -

I’m not buyin it. I’ve seen some really good fakes before. And IF it’s real then the Rivendell rumor is wrong. There’s no way both are possible. -

Obviously this wouldn’t be ideal, most of us want play sets with a D2C here and there. BUT if they did this then I would hope for about two per year. Which is difficult for me to say because I think they’re doing WAYYYY too many D2C sets in general right now and it’s really hard to keep up with the themes I like. But I would drop them all for continuous LOTR D2C sets -

I mean sets have had weirder minifigure inclusions, especially D2C sets trying to depict multiple scenes of the same location. Plenty of sets have included minifigures that have nothing to do with the scene as well. But still, it’s still nonsense either way. For one thing, there wouldn’t be a second D2C this year, and there wouldn’t be images already floating around of a set for next year, among plenty of other reasons for this being BS -

The rumor said the release would be March, nobody ever said March 1st specifically. Personally I think March 25th would be a more appropriate day to release it, for Tolkien Reading Day. Not that I want to wait almost a month longer. But it would be a cool way to celebrate. If it releases on the 1st, I may wait to build it until the 25th for that reason alone (along with some Tolkien reading obviously) -
