Lord of the Rings Ongoing Discussion
Balrogofmorgoth replied to Momotof's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
I’ve made tons of purist and slightly custom LOTR minifigs, but official figures will always be 100% better. I would take an official Frodo and Sam in Orc disguise any day because it’s not just the same Orc design and we need the helmets badly -

I still don’t think it’ll happen. But ideally I picture three battle packs. An Orc pack, a Númenorean pack, and a Noldorin Elven Warrior pack. The only problem is that we still wouldn’t have the main heroes from the scene. I’ve always thought they should turn a Barad-Dûr set into a Last Alliance set and then have battle packs with it. So instead of Sauron, some Orcs, Frodo and Sam it would include Sauron, Gil-Galad, Elrond, Elendil, Isildur, and some Orcs. And then the battle packs to broaden it out. Heck, be generous, throw Frodo and Sam in there too. Licensed D2Cs have included characters from multiple points in the story’s timeline before -

It would be such a smart move for lego to release Last Alliance battle packs alongside the Barad-Dûr set. -

I’m not too bothered by the underside of the T-6. I would probably display it from the one side anyway. The figs are great. My one complaint is how small it seems compared to the previous one. I think that’s a bigger issue than the underside. Everything seems so scaled down nowadays. You get so much less for the price. I tend to side more with Jang’s approach to value. How much mass are you getting for the price rather than going by piece count -

I actually really don’t mind all the studs on the ISD. I mean, it is lego. I kinda want it to look like lego -

Honestly I’ve never had an issue with any of my UCS sets falling apart. That said, I’m really anal about how carefully I move them so maybe I’ve just been careful enough and gotten lucky nothing happened. I get so scared moving the Falcon, AT-AT, and Star Destroyer. I hope the Venator is stable -

I’m just gonna say it again, I LOVED Dex as a kid, and always wanted a Dexter’s Diner set. That being said, I understand that kids now aren’t growing up with those movies. But I don’t believe that means kids wouldn’t find it desirable. Just my own experience. As to sequel sets, I agree that they should make sets they never made from the sequels, but I don’t want more remakes of ST or OT until we’ve had more PT sets we never got -

When I was a kid, I wanted a lego Dexter’s Diner really badly. Still do. It was actually a dream set for me when I was younger Honestly I really have trouble believing some people actually want sequel remakes more than prequel sets we’ve never gotten -

I think it’s ridiculous to say that lego is sabotaging the prequels lol, but no one can deny the OT is pretty well covered while the Prequels have so much material that has never been touched -

I’m not saying they would call it a battle pack. Just $20 sets with those characters. Personally, I would gladly sacrifice a year of actual battle packs for those characters in cheap sets like that -

I mean, would anyone actually complain if they released a $20 set with Phase 1 Fives, Echo, Jesse, and Rex? Or one with Phase 2 Hardcase, Tup, Kix, and Appo? Nahhhhhh. But we know it would actually just be some random blue clones that have nothing to do with anything, but still specific enough that it doesn’t make sense to mass them -

Can’t wait to get an MTT, an ARC-170, a STAAP, a Separatist Landing Craft, and a Crab Droid in this $30 set. Lego is very generous this year -

I’m pretty happy with getting the 332nd pack since the figure from the AAT wasn’t easy to get. But after this I’m done with the 501st unless they want to do specific characters. But no more 501st battle packs -

I would really love some more Phase 1 clones honestly. Obviously I would love some specific TCW P1 troops like Domino Squad, updated Rex and Cody, Waxer, Boil, updated Fox, Ponds, Stone, Bly, etc. but to be honest I would also love more plain Shiny P1 troopers. I ended up getting about five of the Command Station packs but they were just so hard to get a hold of and the feet that they included a Commander really made it hard to army build plain troops. But yeah more P1 clones all around would be great. (I love P2 clones as well and don’t want them to stop just so we’re clear). I’m really hoping we’ve only seen the top of the iceberg when it comes to clone centered lego sets -

This is honestly a ridiculous take. First of all, it doesn’t look pink at all. But whites printed on darker colors are always washed out, in every theme. Like I said, while it’s not perfectly accurate, he does still look great, and nitpicking doesn’t change that. Your entire outlook seems very out of touch. You’re the latest in a long line of people that continue to try to compare a figure in a set to a CMF, which is wild. People need to realize that those budgets are entirely different. It’s apples and oranges. And Star Wars gets a ton of effort compared to other themes. Everyone else calls Star Wars Lego’s golden child and here we are acting all entitled because it’s not CMF quality. -

I agree, but I have seen a lot of people saying lego has been skimping out on detail for Star Wars figures and being lazy and blah blah blah. They can be inconsistent sometimes, but I do think overall Star Wars figures have been getting really good lately, especially compared with something like Marvel figures that seem to be consistently under detailed (CMFs obviously don’t count here). Plus thankfully star wars hasn’t started using the awful single-hole capes yet -

People tend to complain about lack of detail on Star Wars figures lately. Personally I don’t think it’s an issue. The real issue is exactly what you just said. Big sets do not come with nearly enough figures! It’s really common to see a $100+ set with three or four figures. That’s honestly unacceptable. Even a $50 set like the spider tank that only comes with two minifigures (plus tiny little Grogu) is not ok. -

The CMF line is definitely wishful thinking on our part, and would be extremely unlikely to ever happen. A wave of sets is more than reasonable and they would be foolish not to do it at this point. But it seems if it’s going to happen in 2024, it’ll be in 2HY otherwise we likely would have heard about it by now -

Not a rumor, not really a wishlist either (although granted it is phrased like that but that’s not how I intended it), just a thought process on something that could work based on the discussion around the Tantive IV “diorama” and the recent talk about the 3PO and R2 with extra printing -

I mean it’s a completely different budget. For a CMF the entire budget goes towards the figures. We definitely can’t make the claim that all Star Wars figures should get CMF quality, it’s just not realistic. Marvel figures in sets get way less treatment than the CMFs. In fact, they get very few new molds, unlike Star Wars figures -

I would honestly not mind a remake of the Droid Escape Pod set. If lego played their cards right it would be a great way for people to get R2 with back printing and 3PO with arm printing in an affordable set, possibly even with a Sandtrooper -

My guess is if it’s not an official diorama, it’s probably something similar to the Luke vs Dark Troopers set
