  1. Considering the projects most likely to get rejected are all licensed properties, I'm hoping people won't lose faith in CUUSOO altogether, but rather, begin to realize that licensing carries an inherent risk. The built-in fanbase certainly helps carry a project to the review stage faster, but that's offset by the decreased likelihood of passing review, whereas original concepts like the Space Marines and Western Modulars may take longer to reach 10,000 supporters but stand a much better chance of getting the greenlight when they do. The Zelda set seems possible but by no means guaranteed. If it's produced TLG will almost certainly simplify the proposed new molds quite a bit, since they're so obviously "Zelda-y" that they probably wouldn't see much use elsewhere.
  2. That's because it's a new version of glow-in-the-dark - it's opaque white when not glowing, so the vampire doesn't suffer from Snape-head Syndrome.
  3. Went to the Cincinnati LEGO Store today and the clerk gave me a brand new full box to look through! I almost bought all five Galaxy Patrol figs out of it, but then my conscience got the better of me. With May 1st being the official release date Series 7 should be available in all LEGO Stores now.
  4. Ooh, I really like all the Marvel polybags, especially the Hawkeye one. Clearly the Avengers are very keen on fire safety.
  5. In the Collectible Minifigure contests, there's always a rule that the actual figure cannot be used so as not to give an unfair advantage to those who can more easily obtain them. Will there be a similar rule for this, i.e., photographs cannot feature the existing official sets?
  6. Okay, that's a much better-stated version of what I had been trying to say. That this theme isn't "based on" the CMFs, more like they were just developed in tandem and so both utilize some of the same stylistic elements.
  7. I'd say wait for the promo if you know you're going to get the Quinjet anyway. Even if you don't want the Hulk minifig, you can give or sell it to someone who does want it but can't afford the $50. Just two more weeks!
  8. I'm not too hung up on whether certain characters or accessories should or shouldn't have been in certain sets. I think trying to make a set into an exact representation of one particular scene limits the playability - I doubt many kids would want a Hawkeye fig without his bow. (And like others have said, toy designers usually just get a handful of brief clips and/or concept art to work with.) My only gripes are with some of the minifig designs, most notably the hair pieces for Black Widow and Hawkeye (both are easily fixed, or at least will be when LotR is out). And I agree that since Loki appears in three out of four sets, it would have been nice if one of them at least had an alternate outfit.
  9. My general rule of thumb on the wheels is that wheels designed to fit this piece are System, wheels that fit a Technic pin are Technic. By my own personal sorting standards, I would call everything except the round 2x2 plate Technic.
  10. Right, but we're discussing the fact that some of the monsters in this theme are clearly very similar in design to their CM counterparts. Obviously both sets are based on folklore, but the fact that both sets have such a similar interpretation of these archetypes may be significant.
  11. Regardless of exactly how many, the fact that several monsters are so similar to their CMF counterparts raises a really interesting issue. Although I previously thought of the CMF line as a self-contained theme that was not intended to hint at possible future sets, Monster Fighters makes me wonder if other minifigures might eventually be get their own full-fledged themes.
  12. My personal top three? Fallingwater, Farnsworth House, and though I don't have it yet, the Robie House. Though if your goal is to eventually collect the whole line, I'd recommend getting the John Hancock Center first.
  13. It will definitely be a different design if it gets made. I really hope this becomes a set, but I do have concerns about licensing, since Universal is a much bigger deal than Mojang. If they do pull it off and the end result isn't too expensive, I can guarantee I'll buy it.
  14. Well, LEGO did have a set called Starfleet Voyager in the classic space days, though I've always wondered how they got away with that. Actually, I think if this were to become a theme, the most likely name might be Galaxy Patrol, the official name of the minifig that inspired the project.
  15. I believe these will actually be a newly-formulated glow in the dark color that is actually white when not glowing. I have yet to see it in person, but in pictures it looks indistinguishable from regular white.
  16. CUUSOO is still in its infancy. I think the fanboy factor will die down a little bit once a few more projects advance to the review stage and people start to get a clearer idea of what will and what won't get accepted. Once more projects get rejected (My Little Pony and the bucket of stormtroopers are simply not happening, for instance), people will realize what sort of projects aren't worth the effort, and will (one would hope) stop supporting them and start throwing a little more support toward the ones more likely to get approved.
  17. Great review! As Rufus pointed out, this set is a lot more colorful than the rest of the Architecture sets, and overall there's a different sort of character to the detailing. I think between this and the Sydney Opera House, the Architecture line is starting to embrace more non-rectilinear forms with slightly more advanced building techniques. Hopefully it's only a matter of time before we start to see some really advanced forms like a Hadid or Gehry building. Odd that we went straight from 21013 to 21016, though. I've read rumors that the missing two are Villa Savoye and the Eames House for a September release, but haven't heard anything further for quite a while.
  18. I have been lurking in this thread since you started this project, but haven't said anything because, frankly, I'm speechless. Your designs are gorgeous and I would love for something like this to become the next official Space theme. At the very least, this definitely deserves to be frontpaged.
  19. I don't see how this is supposed to harm CUUSOO's credibility. LEGO never made any promises beyond the explicitly stated rules of the program - 10,000 votes gets you to the review stage. It didn't pass review, and its reasons for not passing review are perfectly legitimate. The reasoning isn't hypocritical - yes, other licensed themes/sets have been based on violent films, but the context of the violence is important. Shaun of the Dead's violence may be "fantasy," but the film is set in the present-day real world, while the other films are a few more degrees removed from reality. That has always seemed to be the deciding factor for how TLG treats violent themes.
  20. I have the MBA subscription and there's nothing available as far as I can tell. You can unlock the online content for the first kit using the code on page 5, which includes instructions for an alternate model but not a digital version of the book itself.
  21. Amazing as that would be, I think it's just the lighting. Looks like the spider is definitely glow-in-the-dark though!
  22. Looks awesome! I'm guessing probably around $34.99? That was the price of the store exclusive Dino set. Though of course I'm hoping for cheaper.
  23. Really nicely done! What head is that? It actually looks quite a bit like Mickey Rourke.
  24. I sincerely doubt it - the one Series 8 pic we do have shows a black box. I suppose it's possible they'd change it to a different color before release, but it seems really unlikely they'd change it to a color they've already used when there are still plenty of colors they haven't.
