Rumors and speculation: Haunted House Modular
tafkatb replied to forumreader's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
It's definitely not scaled properly to be a modular, but it could be a larger-end Creator house. ETA: Just saw the ghosts in front - most likely a yet-to-be-revealed Monster Fighters set. -
Even though it's still a fantastic price per piece, it's more than I can afford at the moment. The video seemed to imply that this was sort of a one-off in terms of size, though, so I do hope the next modular will be back down to $150 USD. (Speaking of, isn't it about time for speculation about the next modular? )

I think I can spot a few 1x1 transparent bricks in the Seaside House! I'm a little disappointed that all the 1x1 bricks with side studs are grey though; I was hoping to get some in medium blue. Either way I doubt I'll get the set if that's really the price (12 cents/piece for a Creator house - that can't be right, can it?).

What is Your Favorite Lego Star Wars Year?
tafkatb replied to JackJonespaw's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Not to get all hipster on you ("Their first album was better!") but I gotta say 1999. That was before my dark ages, and I got nearly the entire first wave (looking back I wonder how the hell I afforded it all), so there's significant nostalgia value. I remember saving up all summer to get the Mos Espa Podrace and TIE Fighter & Y-Wing sets and staying up late into the night building them. -
Pictures of the set are up on FBTB's flickr. Actually looks like a pretty decent parts pack for the price, and I think the little dude features side printing on 1x1 plates!
-
So, for some reason, the humble 1x1 plate is ridiculously difficult to come by in Lime (119 Bright Yellowish Green), and before I go to the trouble of placing a very small Bricklink order, full of things I don't even need just to get up to the minimum order amount, I wanted to see if anyone here might have some they'd be willing to trade. I'd be willing to put up any of my spare CMFs (Mummy, 2 Baseball Players, 2 Kimono Girls, Artist, Ice Fisherman) for an equal number of plates. I only really need two, but will certainly take more if anyone has more available to trade. *US trades only

I was certain I wanted to get this set, but if it is $199.99 and not $149.99 I can't afford it. Oh well... I can put the money I was saving up toward a not-quite-as-huge set.
-
I'd suggest some of the Mini Creator or Star Wars sets - since they're already at microscale, they not only contain lots of good parts but could also teach you some interesting techniques to apply to your own creations. You might also make a trading post over in the B/S/T/F forum - there are plenty of large-scale builders who would gladly take your unwanted large pieces in exchange for a bunch of fiddly bits.

Just out of curiosity, do you know if that's the official TLG name for the color? I haven't been able to find any information on their 2012 palette. I was thinking that too - they seem to have used up almost all the "standard" monsters in this wave. The only ones I can think of would be witches, aliens (extremely unlikely coming right on the heels of Alien Conquest), or devils/demons (probably even more unlikely). Only way I could see it continuing is with a second wave focused on cryptids like a sasquatch or chupacabra.

Loving that Big Ben set - will quite possibly be my next Architecture purchase. And if I'm not mistaken, this is the first in the line not designed by Adam Reed Tucker. I certainly like his work, but it'll be nice to see work by other architects in this line.

Very cool! Nice to see Hufflepuff finally get the LEGO treatment. I had been working on an LDD version of this myself, though it looks very different. That's a really clever way to do the barrel entrance!

Heads-up to anyone who missed out on Series 3 - they're still out there! My local Urban Outfitters store (Cincinnati, OH) now has Series 3 CMFs for $1.99. I can't guarantee they'll be available in any other UO stores, but if they are they should be the same price.
-
I just found out about the upcoming Cincinnati event (March 23-25), and I'll definitely go if there's a decent AFOL presence. Does anyone have more information about what discounts are available? I've read that most conventions offer 30% off, which would be well worth the ticket price.

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 8 Rumours & Discussion
tafkatb replied to Piranha's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I second your Ugh. TLG is not going to do non-licensed figs in flesh tones, especially since there are a good four or five different colors in the current palette that could be called "realistic skin color," and having to choose a race for each fig would be a minefield they would not want or need to enter. As for the discussion of if/when the line will end - I don't see any reason it should (at least any time soon), though the rumored black packaging seems... foreboding. It would seem to suggest, though, that TLG doesn't necessarily plan on always using kid-friendly bright colors for the bags, so maybe in the future we'll see, I don't know, Sand Green packaging? Dark Red? -
I thought the "clues" theories had been put to rest. I could see the fire hydrant in Green Grocer as a possibility, but the lady with a purse hinting at the Grand Emporium is really reaching, and there haven't been any viable clues since. It's a lot more likely that since all of these buildings are crammed with details, there's bound to be some coincidences that are easy to interpret as clues in retrospect.

LEGO Collectable Minifgures Series 7 Discussion

I really like the new guitarist (can you tell?), and I think the flying-V guitar mold actually suits her better than it did the Series 4 Punk Rocker - but I would really love an acoustic, or a more Strat-like electric that would be more universally applicable. Fingers crossed that we'll eventually get a female hippie with an acoustic guitar! -
I stand by my statement. My ranking system would probably be more like: 5. Kathleen Hanna 4. Janelle Monáe 3. Lady Gaga 2. Rebecca Black 1. Taylor Swift That's right. Rebecca freaking Black over Taylor Swift.
-
While this is a very nice review, I must take issue with your rating system - Taylor Swift clearly belongs at the very bottom of the list. I'm glad this set is out there - I've been wanting LEGO to come out with more music-oriented sets since we started getting musician CMFs (can't wait to get that Series 7 glam rocker on this stage).
-
I think it looks a little too... chunky, but I'll reserve judgment until I get to see it from a different angle. It does look better than I expected, but those iconic curves are really hard to nail at such a small scale. Does anyone find the box art a little suspicious? The all-caps title makes me wonder if this is really official.

I counted the bricks and came up with nearly 19" to the very top of the tower... I'm wondering whether I would even have room to display this if when I get it!
-
Definitely a new printed 4x4 dish, and what looks like a new shield design as well. It's been done for D2C sets before, but never for the modular line specifically.
-
Ah! That would explain the windowless portion of the back. I would bet on 1x2x2 panels turned sideways.

Plus, I'm getting married this year. Perfect! Now, if only the LEGO Store did bridal registries... Also, I noticed the front columns are the same ones Jamie builds in this video.

It looks to be about 50 bricks tall to the tip of the clock tower, so about 19in./48cm
