  1. Tim - Like most container cranes http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Container_crane I think I have seen a lego crane using the same concept sometime on youtube.
  2. Hi - I been at LEGOWORLD 2012 Copenhagen today, and as expected the Crawler was not displayed! But I got loads of 1080p videos including one of a big container crane. But they are too big for uploading to youtube on 1Mbps connection. But later this week I will see if I can find a faster connection and get them uploaded.
  3. Tkx mate, but what claws? - You mean those I have fitted on the belts? I consider more like spikes. But they full fill a real purpose, the tracks grip is much better with those on. The difference is like, without it can't drive over a doorstep or my storage boxes(like 2-3cm). On the other hand thanks to it massive weight, when driving on carpet it can sometimes derail the tracks.
  4. Yeah I could be fun to see, how rugged the design was of the crawler (When it is no my parts )
  5. I have consider it, but being a serious amateur photographer(a shared hobby with my old man) also mean I have, my own expectations to full fill. Secondly I don’t own any gear at the moment, because of my studies. A little big request are there anybody that can come up with a working subtractor gear drivetrain for a 4x4 setup?
  6. Yes we got, pretty big amount(like 2cm to 8cm - I will guess) here in denmark(near Aarhus). But it is also freezing cold out side. Something like between -15C to -5C... And it has driven i snow to times and it performers really good, but the blade(plow) is a real p.i.t.a to get into the perfect position. Comming to think about, I lack a photo from its top side, but there is around one stud of space around the batteries and XL's. But as you can see it pretty messy right now.
  7. W.I.P - But here it is my LEGO All-Terrain-Vehicle(ATV) general purpose(GP) tank. It is based on several experiments with tracks and treadeds. And a good deal of inspiration from other builders(Sariel and Dikkie Kijn). It features 4x4 drive and three way rotating, tilting and flipping plow. I forgot to tell, but to them how hasn't guessed it yet, the plow is from the unimog b-model. With a heavy modified connector. Specs.: Weight 1,5kg Lenght 46cm width of tank 17cm Width of plow 27cm Height 12cm Parts.: 4 x PF XL Motors 2 x PF Rechargeable battery box 2 x PF Recivers 5 x Big pneumatics cylinders And lots of other parts. Pictures are here on flickr I have several reason for it to be work in progress, which so has last since last spring. But the main reasons are as follows.: * I would like to add a pf m motor to each of the valves. * Add compressor, proberly based of the 8110. * A winch could be cool * Finally it seriously needs some styling, but I am really bad at makeing pretty things. I find it much easier to make moving stuff. That could be as simple as to add, a few of my spare PF LED .
  8. Where are those big wheels from and what part is? And btw. it looking really good.
  9. #Allanp thats what I am considering too. But if the the PF elements got release this year, then TLG is pretty close to make Mindstorms using pf connectors instead of RJ12. Also the NXT brick could use a upgrade at some point
  10. I might be wrong as a, german reader(or speaker(on TB comment) - I don't understand the language myself, even being danish). Has translated what the pr-guy is say as, that there are two propulsion motors and also 2 steering motors. But I might hoperfully get to see on the 18/2/2012, doing legoworld 2012 in copenhagen, and one thing for sure i bring a DSLR and spend lots of time inspecting it, and getting details out of it. If it showen to the public:-D
  11. Look at Conchas writeup on TB, the picture pretty much confirms the servo medium motor(PF SM-motor). Also of note, Conchas if logic hold true(regarding a supposed PF L-motor, which it often does) is that the model is only show with one PF reciver, and hence only the motors will have a similar power drain as the m and xl motors(LEGO PF faq, say two XL pr. battery or 1 x Xl + 2 x m)
  12. Check this youtube video(german) from the Nurmberg toy fair,
  13. 4 xl motors, mean they can make havok/chaos - the tank i am working on(I have mention several times here on the board) has indeed four xl motors. And that has several times ripped the tank to pieces because they are so strong. But my advise would be to add them, but think about the control setup twice or you gonna have trouble. I have in several places made the construction so if the model gonna go to pieces by itself(observering the direction the forces it can apply) then it has to ripe/break a piece. I use what I think is a old technic pro trick, I have two recivers both doing ch1 and then two 8878 batteri boxes powering them.
  14. That is a very great model, and I think you have reached(or is close) to the limit of LEGO. Befor they desiced to clean up their systems(unified power systems of nxt and PF, at least same connector - I am fine with two kindes of motors(servomotors and normal motors)). Also the realism of your model is really great, but again you are nearing the limit, to my experince of to how much pressure you can put into un-drilled lego pneumatics, witch is somewhere between 3 and 4 bars, depending on the hose.
  15. Unfortunately, I have no pictures and it also lacks a little styling(The room between the XL, witch are place side by side, is a complete mesh, it holds two rechargeable batteries and the three pneumatics valves - planes are to add, the unimog compressor and air tank, and if thats to slow a new small pump is properly only $10 on BL(Bricklink)). But if the weather is nice and I get it outside in the snow, and I can borrow my dad's Canon EOS 7D, then there will hopefully be some good pictures. But I think I'll wait to, I have the last PF parts (I.E a M motor and two IR receivers). And also the tracks are fitted with spikes (small black pins) for better grip. Actually during summer testing, sometimes the belts got stuck because the spikes picked up too much grass… So I hope very much, that we get some snow, so it can be tested. That will properly also help me decided if, I am buying the extra PF elements. But I am considering the motorized excavator. But I am not sure if, my budget got room for it, because I gave myself an early Christmas present, the pneumatic 8455.
  16. Got all the pieces build into the tank, last evening. And the weight balance is much better as hoped and expected Only downside, is that currently the pneumatics, are not controlled via PF R/C primary because, I am lacking 2 x PF recivers and 1 x PF m motor. And also the tanks inside looking like a big big mesh of tubes and wires... That is again because i don't have built the pneumatic R/C.
  17. Just a little update folks, no pictures yet - they will hopefully get up bye crhistmas eve if we get some snow in Denmark. - But I dont have camera myselft, and my phone's very bad... But currently the unimog snow plow(blade only), and the pistenBully pneumatic blade control system(the five cylinders). Have been build and connected into one nicely working piece, I had some small problemers about how to make the blade mount, onto the control system, stable but I managed to sort it out. And if may remind you, that setup got three way of moving the blade(Up/down - left/right and tilt). Currently I am in the process of intergrating it into the tank. With regards to the 3d software, I ended up only doing a partiel ldd model of the pneumatic, but wiht out cylinders.
  18. dikkie klijn If you had any, extra pictures or 3d model of thefront blade that would be really great. As a matter of fact I am going to try, to digitally reconstruct it in "SR 3D builder", mainly because I got, 4x4 XL motor tracked tank base lying around(around 60tread pr. track as far as I recall). And after its utter failure, to handle 8110's snowblade, primarily to do a weaksuspension. It is going to get a full makeover during this winter. Update.: I triedlast evening modeling the blade, and SR 3D, is a really hard to work with. Iguess it because my skill with the software (but I am used to handle, LDD,photoshop, Eclipse and various others). Either way then I turned to LDD, only to discover it hadn’t any pneumatics elements in it! So Ithought to myself, I will just go ahead. And the import it to SR 3D later, and add the pneumatic cylinders. But a few quirks with the formats, several parts were lost. dikkie klijn – It’s okay you don’t have more info, on your great moc. But I had already discovered your flickr account.
  19. Sure they are sturdy, I for once bye accident, placed my foot and thus half of my body weight, one the 8110 main body. And the joint simply snapped off and nothing was damaged:sweet: - But highly recommend not to test it:blush: But my main point is the cost of those elements, this piece http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=92911 cost on avg. USD2.61 a pcs. While the other element, is at USD4,29 a pcs(http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=92910). And good night everybody
  20. Hi everybody I have been silence the laste few, days because I have been awaiting my Unimog. And this monday on my mom's birthday the mail delivered it:sweet: Right now I am
  21. DLuders, Sariels snowgroomer got something going for it, but it violate sereval thing of my MOC(needs a better name), design objectives. First no 4x4 and there not enough power(all plans are to use a 2:1 or 3:1, down gearing). First I don't like to rip stuff, better just to take great idea like his notion of the torsionbars, but more importantly, I would like at some either doing four belts, i.e. like HAN because that spreads out the weight, and I belive that is better than to coat the tracks with, beam like Sariel did. Or keep that, for the time of being, but it is need a rebuild to make it stronger. On the snowplower, simply seeing picturs, I suspect that for simple and strong snow pushing lego's unimog design could be better, but that is gonna need a testing. Or some guy how is quickier that I in LDD, and do a studless plow like the 8110 one. I seems like good initail, design do have a link to more pics, the contraption, just for inspiration? Because I renember seeing even smaller designs some where on the english lego web? Your idea of clutch gears, is great, minium starting point when build that, but the pneumatic two or three valve system, is long down. As I see, as a better idea, to build the treads, and that is turing out to be major issue. After that come the snowplow and then comes fitting, and reconsidering of one end of the design.... Oh a little note thursday the thing was assemble, and I put on the on some pretty steep slopes of grass and moss. And it could crawl upwards, but it made a very control decend when order to, and just leaving it on could hold still That is the basic torsion bar design right, wich need four sprocket wheel, on the center. Witch mean that right, now it got bad habit just sitting the base plates, as the belts/treads get push to much, and the torsion bar are, rotating so much that the axle twist, therefor it is put off the road. Until those arrives and I do a better test the current setup. Also of note, is that on a wood, floor it is already capable of pushing a door(get it swung open, when just open a little
  22. And don't me wrong, but in line with what I am condersidering good LEGO Technic design, i.e. focus of the main/core features. Means that the back, snow smoother and cranes is cut off for good! For me the other ideas are complex enough right now, anybody got expericens with 4 x 4 pf xl vs. 4 x 4 in subtracestor? Or advise, because as Han noted, the xl are strong and they are already geared below 1:1 and could be going lower, if the IR rc delay could be kept to a minium. But then we(or I), are faces serious jumping of gears with a way frequency , on the other hands, my merge of the undercarries could turn out, great if I can make it happen. I got the following pneumatics gear, excluding the unimog.: 2 x big old 1 x small Too many annoying swithecs & tubes A air tank, that could help the compressor, if it can keep up. What I needs, if anybody can point me to a compact three pneumatics, pf remote control setup, using pf m motors That would be really helpful, as the first thing I am gonna do, when the unimog comes is build the base(truck) and snowplow and the do initial test fitting on current track, base. And that is a bit, jumpy todo lack of wheels, with underway from bricklink, from uk. So I can't test, it stablity properbly befor I get those.
  23. Hi fellow AFOL's I has been working on a speciel and heavy duty tank. Main spec.: 4 x PF XL motors 2(3?) x PF Rechargeable Battery Box 2 - 6 x PF M Motor Alot of wires 2 x PF IR Receiver, but that going up 3 or four, later on. 2 too 4 pneumatic cylinders I will/has two treads/ belts of roughly 60+ pieces. Single right now, on sprocket wheels. But my design builds on the principles set forth by http://sariel.pl/2010/10/leopard-2a4/ and "LEGO HAN Prinoth Leitwolf with Power Functions (2007)". I am pretty hook on Sariel idea of torsion bar, and HAN's idea of double width tracks as to lower the footprint of it. Its stated purpose is.: Move securely in snow Be able to push/plow snow, ahead of it PF LED light where fitting and as many as the design warrants Rip of core Unimog, hydro-electrial system PPTO at proberly both ends, not sure about a need for, PTO(should be a XL, for this scale ) Bonus/add functions, could be - and the NO-GO'es.: pneumatic suspension of the belts Digging arm from, excavor with PF XL motor improvement as seen on the web Winch capable of pulling it straigt up in the air! Probler gonna, a strong fishing/fiber wire, I dont't trust common sewing wire for a job like that, but I am concerned about, it breaking streng. As roll of that easlie can cost more 100dkk, from a well sortet hardware store. Styling - This is Technic, I don't say any thing more. Weather sealing of, PF elements, could be in the build up, or could be wet wrap or tissue paper. Battery power will, be sacred and needs to be, put low to as help center of mass. Right now they are, in the same plane as the four XL. They sit side by side, and has one pulling both ends of the belt, as for the PF RC channel layout that is simple, all I cant understand why LEGO, won't let us draw power from more than one PF power source, it down right annoying. On the line, as to why not the merge Mindstorms with, PF and keeps mindstorms sweet, sensor array(it very usefull for a skill robot, vechiel program, with is hard, whit NASA cool mars rover algorithms under wraps ) and make PF pneumatic switch. 1. ch goes to track C&C(command and control) can't be more simple 2. Could be pneumatic compressor and light, but then problem of needing to carry both remotes(8879 & 8885 witch I of course gots already ) But I don't like that speed can varie and the is now simple RC on/off buttons 3. Proberly the snowplow as LEGO design on the 8110 got only two RC C&C cylinders, but that is subject to my ideas and money... Currently unaviable todo I only got two PF reviers, right now... To that end I has preorder a new Unimog U400(from www.klodskassen.dk @ 1.079DKK), because of a LEGO approved snowplow/snowplaugh design and I am also considering a 8043-1 for spare parts extra PF M-motors. But today I am turning, 26th yrs , but I am looking forth to here a but comments, and advise. And I can't say any thing for sure, but it is crawling quit slowly around right now. But if I am pleased I, will later on up pictures to flickr, and maybe do a LDD *.lxf model, if the thing turns out nice.
