  1. 4 troopers per battlepack. 5 troopers included in the set. (40-5)/4 = 9 battle packs to fill it. The issue there is you also have to think about the speeder bikes. There's only room for 4. I feel like most people would only really want to be buying two battle packs and then sourcing additional figures elsewhere if they wanted to fill it. I'm planning on buying 3 battle packs which will take the troop complement to 17 including the figures that come with the set. I've already bought the additional troopers on bricklink to make it up to the capacity of 40. If you want your troops to be seated with helmets on then you'll have to source the rarer troops with the brick-built backpacks.
  2. I have built my AT-AT now using my "fix" I can see why they chose the method they did to assemble the legs in that way. My method does have very simple disassembly but getting the elements to stay in place while attaching the legs took a little bit of extra work. I had to add a temporary yellow bush to keep the sub assembly in place while I mounted it on to the body I then had to remove that bush and attach the other liftarm with one hand while keeping the axle sub assembly pushed into place. The final result looks fine and dis-assembly will be easy to do but it was definitely fiddly to accomplish.
  3. I've been thinking of doing something similar. I was hoping to be able to have a similar rope deployment via a floor hatch but there's far too much structural support in the centre of the AT-AT. The area where I was going to place my hatch is one of the few strong points where you can actually lift the thing. It's heavier than I thought it would be.
  4. Even if you bought them for yourself? In that case I'm finally enjoying being able to start on this.
  5. I bought a new shelving system to put it on. And now I have another two shelves to fill with other things. Less than a week to go before I can start the real construction. I already have it half built in Stud.io
  6. And me. Finish work on the 23rd. 10 days of not having to think about work or anything else and I can just have nice quiet time to build in peace.
  7. I've added them to the same thread. easier to have a single thread with a similar theme.
  8. Some work in progress pics with the ships in place. Not started on the greebling yet.
  9. I worked out that the recent official set is pretty close to microscale. I'd love to compare my micro scale X-Wing and Falcon to yours. I think it's your Tie Fighter design I've used for my micro scale trench run, did you post those on reddit a while ago?
  10. I always struggle to reseal the tape on the box too. It's so frustrating.
  11. Lego have responded to the issue. https://www.brickfanatics.com/lego-responds-design-flaw-star-wars-at-at/amp/ It seems they believe it's a non issue and the piece can be extracted without using force and damage although the method they recommend is unconventional. I'm not sure it's a "fatal design flaw" that's clickbait headlines for you though.
  12. I've just ordered some custom blasters from them for my AT-AT mods. Wish I had taken a closer look at their website.
  13. Would the full troop complement be all Snowtroopers or should some Scout Troopers also be included for the Speederbikes? I've almost have all of mine assembled and ready. Reasonably cheap on Bricklink too although the price for them may have increased recently due to demand. I'm still working on different gun rack configurations. Back on my mods. I think I have worked out how to access the main body of the AT-AT from the underside now. There are a lot of details in later steps of the set that I've not added to the 3D model yet. The purple bricks are the ones I need to purchase, makes it easier to identify what to add to my wanted list. I'm happy I'm working out what I want to change before I start building, some of the changes begin at Step 5 of the instructions. Next step is working out how to make the circular hatch open, it's currently using the stud.io magic and is floating mid-air.
  14. There doesn't seem to be an easy way to create an access route via the underside flap. Too much of the structure would have to be changed to make that possible. It may be possible to create access via that circular brick though. It does line up with the hollow area in the base of the troop compartment. I would mean a fair bit of modification though as that brick isn't hollow and the macaroni pieces with the same radius are too thick. I do have some ideas though. I can see what people mean by there being a lot of visible colour on the underside of the set.
  15. The release of those inspired me to create the micro scale version. I really need to get some greebling ideas for these builds.
  16. I'd be very wary about adding flexible areas to the feet. Currently each foot covers a 16x16 area. All the weight of the set is going through those contact areas, those feet are very substantial as well. As you angle the legs, pressure is applied to them and the feet in different ways. The instructions themselves actually warn you about angling the legs incorrectly so obviously there is a potential issue of the set losing it's balance if you're not careful with the positioning of the legs. A "real life" AT-AT would have hydraulics making sure the toes are in firm contact with the ground and would help the feet stay in place. Having flexible toes would reduce the firm contact area especially if the set is being placed on a flat shelf. It would be very easy to make the toes dangle but I feel that it would significantly alter the balance of the set. The AT-AT is no ballet dancer!
  17. You can get axles in a hard rubber rather than ABS plastic. Even the standard ABS axles do feel a little different.
  18. I'm not sure about trusting a £700 set staying upright based on some used parts which may or may not fail. I did see a suggestion earlier about using a 5L axle but it didn't solve the issue but it got me thinking what is the largest axle with stop available. An 8 long axle with stop is readily available and cheap. Added a few spacers and a different connecting liftarm with an axle hole and I believe the issue is solved. The axle won't be pushed out as once this assembly is attached to the main body there seems to be a brick stopping it from being pushed so Lego's design seems to be a bit unnecessary. I've ordered the parts above and will build it in this configuration and will see how well it holds together.
  19. I've been looking at mine sat in it's box since Saturday. I'm wondering how long I can resist before I start on it. On the thread subject, has anyone come up with any other solutions to the rogue assembly now that they actually have the set in hand? Is the main issue trying to stop the orange pin from being pushed into the assembly when you attach the lift arm on the outside? I've had another look at another possible solution, this time using as many of the pieces included with the set as possible. Replace the orange pin with a 3L blue pin as before. Use the same 2L Red Axle and connectors included in the original assembly. Instead of using the LBG 4L axle with stop, use a 3L Axle with stop instead. When you remove the blue pin, you'll be able to push the brown axle with stop out as there is a small ridge on the inside of the LBG connector.. The only potential downfall to this method is that the 3L Axle is only available in Reddish Brown. Have Lego fixed the issue of elements of this colour being brittle? According to news sources they say they have but in reality is this true?
  20. The price does seem high for a MBS set. It would make sense for the next MBS set to be from ROTJ and come out around October based on the timing and theme of the previous 2. Part of me is hoping for a remake of the Death Star 2 set and that would fall under under UCS rather than MBS and would fit the large price tag.
  21. I'm really intrigued on the Microscale Trench Run especially as I've just built one myself. I'll have to do a in-depth comparison especially as the price seems to indicate it will be a lot larger than the Hoth & Endor microscale sets that were released as part of the 20th anniversary sets. For the large unknown set, would it be too soon for a complete MBS Jabba/Fett Palace? I know the throne room will be featuring from the Book of Boba Fett as it's own set but a large set of the complete building that spans the eras including minifigs from both ROTJ & BOBF would have widespread appeal. Lego have done sets before with Minifigs from different eras included. That building may also feature in Kenobi as well.
  22. Thanks it's been fun building it all. I've got light kits for most of my big sets now. It certainly adds a lot to them. I still need to install the Cantina and Star Destroyer lights but I have them on everything else. My best advice for lighting up sets is to try and get the USB powered kits. Having to deal with batteries is a pain especially for sets on high shelves. I use a switchable hub so I can individually switch off lights for different sets.
  23. I've seen that, it looks like it's just a surface hatch and doesn't actually have access to the main body of the AT-AT. I'll see if it can be improved. I'm hoping to have the set in my hands in about 12 hours time so I'll be taking an in-depth look then.
  24. The entire trench run sequence was almost a shot to shot remake of the Dam Busters film from 1955 Lucas actually stated that he used images from the 1955 film to represent the finished shots for Star Wars before he started filming. This helped him to get the funding needed to make Star Wars. I do like how the Expanse has tried to interpret the real life effects of space travel. Severely underrated series. If Lego made a Rocinante I would buy it.
  25. First deliveries have arrived for my modifications. You can tell by the look on the Commanders face that he's annoyed that his vehicle hasn't turned up yet. Can't trust Veers with anything. From what I've seen in the instructions, other than the side hatch, there are no other ways to exit the vehicle. I shall be working out how to add the escape hatches and the Auxiliary hatch. I believe the latter one is the one used by Luke to throw a Thermal Detonator in.
