  1. Yes I stand corrected, reddish brown, regardless, as near as I can figure the parts in question are, as near as I can figure 6 to 8 years old. However they became brittle over a period of time, they didn't start out brittle, that is what I find concerning. They were not subjected to harsh environments either and the failure rate is close to 50%, so far and I am sure the degradation is continuing.
  2. After my recent experience with dark brown, that is one vehicle I would steer clear of, nothing like watching your parts crumble like potato chips upon disassembly to avoid usage.
  3. It would be interesting to see the electronic components in those BAS elements.
  4. TLG really cares about what I think, they must, every time I have any sort of interaction with them, they request I fill out a brief survey.
  5. Thanks everyone for the quick responses, lot of good to know stuff. Looks like I will be replacing all the gears in my latest build, hopefully with spur gears and proper bracing (extremely important) and the tips provided, I can eliminate the skipping that is plaguing my crawler. I foolishly used the crown gears simply because they were all black.
  6. Hope this is an okay place to ask, didn't really want to create a whole new topic. Which gear is better, least likely to skip under load, the bevel gears or spur gears?
  7. Indeed, could be a very interesting mechanism, hopefully the looks won't be modified too much to make it actually work.
  8. Incredible, I have looked in on this thread for many years and have followed your progress but apparently it has been awhile. I have always enjoyed the mechanisms you create for your clocks but these beauties are just simply incredible, very well done sir, it is good to see others share your enjoyment.
  9. Those new track pieces are larger than I had originally thought, thanks for the pictures. I wonder if that curve is the same as train track? Looks like excellent monorail track.
  10. Well first reaction, I like this set, loco looks okay, crossing arms and a helicopter.
  11. Sometimes the cylinders become a bit slow, I often find if I just physically run them in and out through their full range of motion a few times, they will work a little more smoothly and a bit faster.
  12. What a beast, very well done, a real inspiration for me, really impressed with the technical aspects.
  13. Lol, can't complete the poll because I stubbornly refuse to answer number 3.
  14. Weird response after the passage of so much time. Did any of this ever pan out?
  15. You can remove corrosion off the metal rods with some super fine steel wool and a bit of gentle elbow grease, worked for me.
  16. Nice work on the scale, so cool to see them getting even smaller, looks like fun to drive as well.
  17. Good to see you making progress, it always strikes me oddly that everytime I check into this thread, we seem to be working on the same set. I always gain some inspiration after reading of your struggles as I also have some issues with assembly. Thanks for being you.
  18. Glory be, thought this would never happen, it's a dream come true for me, since I have been watching Star Trek for 50 plus years, lol and still watch it on a regular basis, even though I have every episode memorized. While I am disappointed it isn't TOS, I can understand why, it is very dated, even old fashioned the Enterprise itself really isn't very detailed and actually quite plain looking. That and the fact that some of the situations were of the time and consequently don't really fit with modern attitudes and acceptable behavior. I will have to see it first though before I even consider buying it.
  19. It might be easier to identify, if they were removed from the box and laid out on a table top.
  20. Not much I can add other than my disappointment with yet another construction machine that can only perform one function at a time. Completely opposite of how the machines actually operate, not that I expect full on realism but it would be nice to be able to curl the bucket while simultaneously operating the boom.
  21. Being in the camp of wanting to be unplugged when LEGOing, I very much prefer physical instruction books. However it has got to be a huge cost and waste of paper the way they print them now, foolproof so anyone can follow along. Could they not simply make the books much smaller, I mean multiple steps on each page, seems as though they could easily reduce the books number of pages. One page instead of twenty for twenty parts. Still keep the over simplified instructions online for those that prefer them. I find myself more and more just skipping ahead and working out for myself how to assemble the parts.
  22. 1x5 plates may not be so handy for building structures or other things, however I have found it indispensable for use in vehicles and when building with Technic.
  23. Indeed, I myself was really looking forward to buying this set, unfortunately when I looked at the price, I was sure Target had mispriced the set as they do on occasion. After realizing that was the RRP I right then and there vowed never again buy LEGO Marvel sets and so far I have stuck to my guns. May be unpopular but I have reached the limit of what I am willing to pay for Marvel. It wouldn't bother me a lick, if Marvel went down the tubes, those greedy bastards will never get a dime from me again.
  24. Cool concept, really like the possibilities, although I think I would shy away from chain drive. Although you may have better luck, I find that chain works best, only when minimal torque is required.
