Actually this time it was basically the same idea, no crazy mechanics included. Although this was part of the fact that it was meant to be relatively simple, as to not confuse new players.

I had a similar idea, with similar response.

Heroica RPG - Quest #95: Missing Wares

Mizuki edges towards the window, peaking inside. Before she can open it, she realizes that a guard stands on the other side of the window, about 2 feet away. However, fortunately his back is turned to the window. Will she go to another window or attempt to take down the guard? -

Heroica RPG - Quest #95: Missing Wares

QM Note: It appears that my computer is actually fixed now. Should be able to upload images in normal amounts and more frequently! Images: Romulus fighting the guard: The back of the pharmacy: (Ignore the ripple effect, it must be a problem with the shading of similar colors ) View from around corner: The party loots the guard before checking that they have stayed hidden. It appears that the guards hadn't noticed, but if their attention was pulled to them, their presence would be revealed. It appeared that the party would have easy access to the window farther down the wall or the the roof, however of they wanted, they could continue looking for another entrance. Loot: 20 Gold 1 Mead (Causes the encouraged-effect, doubling the target's attack power for the duration of one battle.) 3 Weak Potions (Restores 5 health to the target.) -
So they should be additives, not multipliers? That sounds ok to me. Then you could also have different tiers, and possibly different levels needed to use them. Another idea I had a while back was potion crafting. It's another one of my crazy ideas, but the point is to make potions that can benefit classes to their own needs, but you'd need to collect ingredients throughout the game, each having different values allowing you to add different effects.

Heroica RPG - Quest #95: Missing Wares

Romulus peeks around the corner, but realizes he is visible. He pulls back, and waits for the guard to be there. He notices the shadow approach before thrusting Combyrs at the guard. However, the previously suspicious guard is able to barely dodge the swing. The guard swings a sword down at Romulus, but Romulus sidesteps the attack before swinging his elbow into the guard's head, knocking him back several steps. In panic, the guard swings his sword randomly, allowing Romulus to quickly rush at him and grab at the guard's weapon. Yanking it out of the guard's hand, Romulus twirls in a circle, swinging the blade through the man's neck. He falls backwards, dead. -

QM Note: Until further notice, I will be reverting back to no rolls for actions. I will also add pictures later today, hopefully, if work allows me the time. If a member has been inactive for 2+ days I am allowing other members to control their actions for now, considering barely anyone is active. Also I am rewinding to before Romulus fell, because it was caused by the rolls. With Mizuki on the second platform, Romulus runs, jumps, and catches the edge of the platform before pulling himself up and over. Alexander, after taking a deep breath, runs towards the edge of the first platform, jumping, and narrowly catching the edge of the second. Soon, all three heroes are on the 2nd platform. They walk along the platform until they reach the corner when they notice more guards. Behind the building were at least 5 more guards, each stationed on the ground. In the mizuki's peripheral vision, she notices another guard farther down the same platform. She pulls the party back around the corner as the guard looks in their direction. At first, it seems they'd escaped his vision, but a few seconds later they hear the guard. "Kyle? Is that you?" The guard says, as the party hears his steps approaching them. If the party was to stay hidden, they would want to dispose of the guard without a fight. -

"So, to the butterfly plains?" Johon asks, before attempting to dig to see if he could find anything of use. -
No, I agree. I just didn't really realize that when I started the actions. I'm going to remove the rolls because of how long it's causing the quest to take and because of objections to it.

I understand, I feel though that it is being downplayed, however. I understand that the mechanic was not very practical as Waterbrick has pointed out, however, it was a simple mechanic. The reason I was asking here was to see how people viewed it, and I have my answer. It was not a practical idea. One of the main problems arose, however, when I introduced it to the parkour in the quest. Part of this was the fact that it did not fit very well in the circumstances because of the layout, making images, and showing possible solutions. I'm not going to be incorporating the action rolls in the quest anymore because of the criticism it's received. When I created it, I didn't view it as a wholly new, confusing mechanic. It was simply a roll to decide how effective an action is.

I see what you're saying. Like I said, I'm not sure if I plan to continue to use this system, and if I do, I'll definitely need to think some things out. However, part of the reason for the time it's taken is the current lack of participation. Normally this isn't much of an issue, since players can control other people's actions, however, it seems all of my questers are busy right now. Also, the parkour I've tried to introduce may be the main issue. I think it's just causing the quest to be confusing. Where the party is, what they have to do, and where they're supposed to get to. I'm realizing that an RPG like this isn't necessarily the best place to try to incorporate it, mainly due to lack of ability to explain the terrain and long periods of no feedback. Another thing though: I'm not sure if the problem really is lying so much in the actions rather than the situation or the inactivity. I agree that at some points, the action system just didn't make sense. The reason I implemented it was to try and make riskier decisions actually a thing to consider, without putting them out of the realm of possibilities.

"Finally we're wearing them down!" Repeat unless PL says otherwise -
What do people, especially my own questers, think of the action system I am using? I'm thinking I'll use it in future quests, but would like some input on problems and such that I may be able to improve.
