Hear, hear. Well, not quite. I was introduced to Classic Space in the early 2000s, and it still stood out to me as being better than what Lego had been producing for Space just before the introduction of Star Wars, and better than most of what Lego was producing at the time. But then, in the early 2000s most product lines weren't that good, there's a reason it was a troubled time for the company. Speaking of Classic Star Wars, I made a few concepts for that ... and after building my "Classic Star Wars" Z-95 Headhunter and X-wing in the brick I think it would have worked just great. Just imagine it's a space shuttle in Moonfall doing ridiculous Roland Emmerich things, or a space shuttle in Armageddon doing ridiculous Michael Bay things, or a space shuttle in Moonraker doing ridiculous James Bond things. Or even a space shuttle in For All Mankind doing ridiculous Ronald Moore things that the space shuttle couldn't actually do. There's plenty of precedent in the movies for a NASA space shuttle to do ridiculous sci-fi things. Just imagine, right?

I’m impressed by how little Friends-ified the space shuttle is. Just a minimal purple stripe and a cockpit fitted for two minidolls. In nearly every other respect it’s like a cross between the 2017 and 2021 Creator 3 in 1 space shuttles. The multi axis swing is fun and unique, the space suit and blue shirt minidolls are nicely designed, and the model of Sun Earth and Moon in the building is a nice touch. I don’t like the trans purple glass on the building though.

That multi-axis trainer is like nothing ever seen in City Space. That space shuttle is actually better than anything in City or Creator. Wow. Now that we've finally got a Friends Space set it's really Ninjago's turn to get on the ball and pump out a space shuttle .... Edit, parts count is 757. To be "Spaceship Specific" why is it better than other space shuttles? Simple gray leading edge with rounded wingtips. Smart use of the 2x6 wedge plates for the trailing edge. Seats two side by side in the cockpit (albeit minidolls) without sacrificing rear wall of cockpit. Smartly built OMS pods. Nice use of the windscreen and 3x3 round corner parts introduced for the UCS space shuttle last year. Presence of a foot restraint work platform for the astronaut at the end of the Canadarm - that's a feature no other Lego space shuttle has had. All-black bottom.

@Toastie - Oh, I'm not picky. Here's what's scratched my Space itch since 2014, not counting Star Wars (though I buy a lot of Star Wars spaceships too). I haven't actually bought everything in this list, but it's all Space! to me. City space - all of it! NASA space - all of it! Buzz Lightyear spaceship Monkie Kid spaceships the Watchpoint: Gibraltar spaceship from the Overwatch line (2019) and the smaller set that went with it there are lots of spaceships in Super Heroes, but I especially like the Milano (2014), the Starblaster (2014), the Milano (2017), the little Ravager ship (2017), the Commodore (2017), the Benatar and Pod (2018), and the Benatar (2021) the Arrowhead from the Freemaker Adventures (branded Star Wars, but non-canon) together with one set of new City road plates and the Wonder Woman 1984 satellite dish makes a great updated Galaxy Explorer ship/landing pad/satellite dish combo if you think of it as "Galaxy Explorers: The Next Generation" the TLM/TLM2 Benny spaceships, of course the Creator 3-in-1 Cyber Drone the Creator 3-in-1 Rover the Creator 3-in-1 space shuttles I don't really like any of the other spaceships from TLM2, but there sure are a lot of them Here's where I really go out on a limb and hold an opinion that's unpopular with the likes of Danth and other hard-core Lego Space enthusiasts: most flying machines or jets in action/adventure themes that aren't clearly distorted versions of realistic airplanes count as Spaceships! That includes, for example, most of the good-guy aerial vehicles from Nexo Knights, the Lightning Jet from TLNM, the Ultrasonic Showdown jet from Ultra Agents, the Red Son jet and White Horse Dragon Jet from Monkie Kid, some things from Chima, some things from Ninjago, etc. Also a number of flying machines from Super Heroes that are totally unrealistic as airplanes: the 2015 Quinjet (Hulk even flies it to the Jeff Goldblum planet, so it's totally a spaceship), the 2018 Black Panther Talon jet, the 2021 Black Panther dragonfly jet. (BTW, that Avengers compound? Totally a Space base.) Maybe even the Flying Fox from Justice League (2017). Basically, if it relies on magic to stay up instead of aerodynamics, I have every right to juice it up with more powerful magic and send it into SPAAAACE. "Lego - Just Imagine", right? That was the advertising tagline in the early 2000s. Oh, and just today I took delivery of the Type F and Type G shuttles from the Bluebrixx Star Trek line. But that's not really Lego, is it? So if Danth is at one extreme in accepting only a very small, tightly defined group of spaceships as being what they want, I'm at the other extreme in accepting just about anything. You've probably seen this dynamic play out between me and Danth a number of times on the forum, and I apologize to Danth if it gets a bit annoying.

Here's my count of Spaceships released since 2014, when Disney acquired Lucasfilm, not counting anything that is disqualified by any of the following reasons: City theme Star Wars theme Super Heroes theme Other licensed theme Lego movie theme (because that's a license too) Action-adventure theme not set in SPACE! Not shown in SPACE on the box art (ie the Creator 3-in-1 Cyber Drone that's shown over a futuristic city) Jet or other aerial vehicle not described as going to SPACE! NASA-licensed Heavily inspired by NASA (ie the Creator 3-in-1 rover) Space shuttle No seating/standing room for a minifig to be at the controls Remaining Spaceships that might qualify: 80032 Chang'e Moon Cake Factory (2) - Rabbit mech, streaming platform 80035 Monkie Kid's Galactic Explorer (1) - the whole big spaceship but Danth doesn't count the Monkie Kid Galactic Explorer as a Spaceship! because it's shown launching vertically like a rocket on the box art. So yes, using that very restrictive set of criteria, which I believe is more or less the set of criteria used by Danth, Lego has not released multiple spaceships since the Disney acquisition of Star Wars. My own criteria for what makes a satisfactory spaceship are much looser, so I'm happy with non-Star Wars spaceship offerings since 2014. But I can respect Danth's choice to dismiss all the other spaceships and jets and flying machines and stuff, as a financial strategy. The more restrictive your requirements, the less sets you're going to buy, the more pennies saved, the more pennies earned.

My hot take on that: they (or at least some set designers) always wanted to do the licenses, they just couldn't get permission from the company (or the company couldn't afford the license fees).

I saw on another forum that the nozzle pieces are actually half of the recently introduced differential housing for Technic. So they're not new nozzles, but they're Nice Parts Use anyway. And using Technic driving rings as jet nozzles is pretty well established by now, it's been done in City and Star Wars and Super Heroes loads of times.

I know, right? It’s pretty much exactly what I might design for a modern remake of the classic 6872 Xenon X-Craft / Lunar Patrol Craft, except for the white color and the different shade of blue. Even the windscreen color is right for a Classic Space remake. It may be a licensed set but it sure floats my boat. Can’t wait to see what other builds the windscreen is intended for, they can can’t have made that mold with just the one set in mind.

I’ve been sort of thinking of the Buzz Lightyear movie as “Lego Classic Space: The Movie” based on the first trailer, so it’s fitting that the spaceship set should have a trans yellow canopy. I can’t wait to see what people will build with it. That set isn’t quite as nicely shaped in the nose and canopy area as I hoped, but I’m really digging the two storage areas in back and the new nozzle pieces. Edit, I am a bit surprised by the use of that new part though, since it really isn't a good match for the XL-15 in the trailer, which has a curved canopy in a color that might be better matched by this or this.

Some set designer said once (sorry, I'm not going to take the time to find the citation) that the trouble with Castle and Pirates as full-fledged themes is that the pirate ship / castle at the top of the line outsells the rest of the line by so much that it's not really worthwhile to make the other sets. So they put a pirate ship / castle of the usual size in Creator 3-in-1 because they weren't able to get approval for a full lineup, and Creator 3-in-1 is the best place for one-offs. That's less of a problem in other lines because the big set at the top of the line isn't so singularly iconic at summing up the whole point of the line as a pirate ship sums up Pirates or a castle sums up Castle.

Excellent build. My favorite part is the brick-built yellow stripes on the nose cone.
