  1. Norro: I hope you're maintaining an index of some kind for all these great set reviews. This would make a great reference for these classic sets.
  2. I always thought I had a pretty good collection, but take a look at this Brickshelf find:
  3. Thanks for sharing. Perhaps it's a new theme. I'm not sure if I like it. Might make a good adventure plane though.
  4. Definately fits nicely with the tower. The tower almost has a "Fright Night" or "spooky" look to it. I'm not sure if I'm real fond of the tower. The Citadel of Orlan looks like a better set. What's wrong with all these KK sets is they're too hollow and they have large single pieces at higher levels. It takes away the whole castle wall look needed to make them look like a castle. And not to complain, but what on earth is at the top of Mistlands Tower? It looks like something out of a space theme. This is what really takes away from the quality of the deign. In regard to this set though, I like it, and it does have some very useful pieces. This set sells for $30 in the US, not sure the value in Europe. I like the $20 - $30 price range as they offer a good value- at least to me. Not sure if I'll buy the tower although they definately go together well. I really don't like the look of the battleship though with the yellow wings. The boat needs real sails.
  5. Well, let me just say that it doesn't use techniques like the Santa Fe Super Chief (SNOT building), but it does have some Technic pieces. This is what I'm getting at. I would say it's at the lower medium to medium level in complexity. I enjoy not having to spend hours building a set and this was a fun build. Here's a shot of Adric without helmet. Good face:
  6. Looming out of the mysterious waters of Mistland, Gargoyle Bridge stands as the last pass to the great tower. Fortified with two swinging axes, can Sir Adric avoid the trap before passing through the gate of death? Knights Kingdom (KK) Gargoyle Bridge, set 8822, is part of the newest KK trio of sets including Rogue Knight Battleship (8821) and Mistlands Tower (8823). These new KK sets seem to have a darker feel to them as previous KK sets (with the exception of the Vladek collection: Dark Fortress and Prison Cave). And they seem more mysterious to me. Gargoyle Bridge has 250 pieces and is priced at $29.99 (USD). A shot of the front of the box. The art work is very nice. This set somewhat resembles Border Ambush being another KK bridge. And the back of the box: This set includes three figs: Sir Adric, Karzon (Rogue knight leader) and another rogue knight. They are definately much better then previous KK figs as they have the metalic plated armor. What I'm not real fond of is the weapons that include a nice axe, basic black spear, and a mace. The shields have a much improved look (no silly animals) but the small one is gold. Seems to stand out. I like the snake shield. A close-up of the metalic armor: Before building the battering ram, I thought it would be silly; but actually, it looks pretty good: The "ram section" has a mechanism to turn it causing the ram to slide forward or backward: The ram itself is a hard metalic mask piece much darder than previous Bionicle/Large Knight pieces. Lego should use this design for a mini-fig mask/helmet: Now for the bridge. It is rather sturdy standing on four green/grey NSBURPs (not so big ugly rock pieces). In fact, I like these squarish NSBURPS, esp. with this color combination. The trim roof slopes in gold look pretty good. A close up of the NSBURPS: Two gargoyle heads serve as guardians of the bridge. The head lifts up giving the appearance that the mouth opens. The gargoyle head pieces are made out of the cheaper plastic: Two swinging axes rest atop the tower structure. The plastic is much better than that of previouse large pieces: The mechanism uses two chains to pull the axes upward: Another shot from the top: The portculis is nice but has no lock or chains to lock it: Attached to each side of the main bridge are the slanting sections. These are 6x16 stud plates. Three are included in the set. The third is used in the middle section and can fall inward by pulling a rod. And a shot of the whole set: Slightly different angle: Summary: I enjoyed building this set as it was not too easy and offered a few advanced building techniques (mainly the mechanisms). The set is pretty sturdy and the tower section not badly done. The set provides many arches and plates, but as with all the new sets, not to many standard bricks (1x 2s, 4s, 6s, and 8s). The set would probably make a nice compliment to Mistlands Tower as depicted in some images. Gargoyle Bridge is definately a notch above other KK sets but still not Classic Castle. It still offers some nice pieces though and doesn't look bad (although as seen is the last image, the slope is a bit steep on both sides for those poor mini-figs who have to push up the battling ram). The set does seem to be missing some accessories, like a flag or decoration on the battering ram and some treasure (gems, treasure chest, gold, etc.). Overall though, I like this set and would buy it again.
  7. Why couldn't Lego give us a new Pirate ship for regular mini-figs along this line?
  8. I was just browsing Brickset, and to my surprise, found a few new pirate sets. When they 1st popped up on my screen (as small images), I thought, "oh, could this be NEW pirates"? But the result was in fact, this: >:-( I stand corrected, I stated Pirates 4+. This is definately Duplo!
  9. There's something about the name that just reminds me of Snoopy in an Australian Outback costume.
  10. I can remember doing the same. We're the old men on Eurobricks Hobbes!
  11. It's always been the blinds. I took the pictures before I learned all the photo tricks that I've picked up over the years. One day, I may re-create.
  12. It's ok if you've got a very large quantity of pieces to build the mountains and the water; but without, using other elelments helps display your sets. I also wanted lights which Lego hasn't done for years. I've got two but not enough to light up the port and the ships. The scene looked very neat at night.
  13. I had not heard of the show. I do remember Sergeant Preston of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police but not this adventure series. Sounds like a good adventure show.
  14. Sounds like a bad guy to me. Definately "storm" inspired. Many sound like tropical drinks, esp. a Tommy Hurricane. Is that made with vodka or rum? Sounds either like a biblical villain or the name of a country singer. I can see why Lego went with Johnny Thunder. Sam Grant sounds more like an old American president that should have had his face on a dollar bill (or) a civil war general. Lego seems fond of the name Sam.
  15. I like Ace. Not sure about McCool. Almost sounds like another name for a Peanuts dog. Snoopy pops in to my head. :-D Let me see, here's a few: - Flint Carson - Jake Merdock - Dan Danger - Jack Venture
  16. If Johnny Thunder had not been named Johnny Thunder, what other names could he have been called? Share your thoughts and ideas here.
  17. Nice poll Hobbes. I have to go with the all-time classic 381. This was my 2nd police station and my first to have real moveable minifigs. I loved this set! and still have it in storage. I liked a number of things about this set that include: - Standard bricks! You could actually build other variations with a nice assortment of standard bricks. - The windows. I've always loved the sharp contrast of the black and yellow windows w/shutters against a white building, and the yellow doors. - The car and helicopter had the little vehicle doors that swing open. I like this piece and each said, "Police" with no stickers. - I always loved the motorcycle. It also had 1x2 bricks that had "Police" printed on them. - The prison/cell had a door in the back and a bench/seat for the prisoners (2x6 or 2x8 plate on two 1x2s) - Inside the building on two desks are red telephone pieces (a 1x2 roof piece with a phone printed on them). Great detail for an older set! - An lastly, this set was the first to use the 1x1 round translucent blue pieces (at least the 1st time I had seen them in blue). In my opinion, this is the best police station ever made by Lego. If any of you can find this set, I would highly recommend buying. They don't make sets like this anymore!
  18. Thanks for sharing Echo. I've been waiting for this to come out.
  19. My choice would be Pippin Read, for obvious reasons. X-D But duct tape would probably be my 2nd choice followed by a Swiss Army knife.
  20. If you were Johnny Thunder, and you were faced with the scenerio of only having one item on your belt, in your backpack, or carried along with you on an adventure, what would you choose? . . . you are faced with a dilemma . . . What would it be ? ? ? (share your choice below and tell why)
  21. And the winner is: SalvoBrick for his classic-style hometown! Salvo wins a VIRTUAL TROPHY for his design and build of a traditional Lego town. :-D *y* And to ALL the contestants: as Hobbes has indicated, all the cities/towns are great builds with layouts that make each interesting. A very nice job to all of you. Disclaimer: Eurobricks is not responsible for claims or awards promised by TheBrickster. X-D
  22. Jay: your original picture didn't do your city justice. Very nice! I love the Starbucks.
  23. Great figs. Lego needs to make some historic sets with figs of this kind!
  24. Enchanted Island comes as no surprise, as I think it is a very nice set (just wish I had purchased one, darn...), but I'm surprised that Amazon Ruins did as well as Pharaoh's Ruins. The Egyptian desert set is by far a better set but both have received 3 votes each making them 2nd place. And as I look at larger pictures of these Islander sets, I realize that this was a pretty nice sub-theme.
  25. Last call for votes. Get your vote in now. So far, SalvoBrick's traditional hometown is leading the way. An excellent choice I may add. Jay's outstanding metropolis is 2nd followed by a nice train town by Alex. My classic city has one vote and Kotua's island-style airport town is at the gate. I'll announce the winner tomorrow evening (6/28/06). Good luck to all the contenstants and thank you for sharing an image or your city/town. They're all very nice.
