GHOST TOWN Sub-Theme inspirations thread !!!
WesternOutlaw replied to Brick Miner's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Brickminer: You've done one hell of a suberb job with Shiversdale. I truly hope that Lego hires you and you create Ghost Town as an official Lego theme. I would buy every set twice! -
Just that I get you guys mixed up like nobody's business. :-$ . Thanks ;-)

I thought you quit Eurobricks. Brick Miner; this is over as far as I'm concerned, but I consider such acknowledgement a professional courtesy, that's all.

Jungle Adventure WIP
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Thanks. It's around 15 now. There's a list on the 1st message. I'll be adding just a few more before the new Indiana Jones sets are out. I've still got some more foliage and green baseplates to expand the jungle though. ALL: I'm thinking about creating a Jungle Adventure (similar to one of my past mysteries). -
Adventurers' Expedition Journal
WesternOutlaw replied to WesternOutlaw's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
It's a great little book for kids, esp. with some pictures of them. -
A few years ago when I was collecting the Orient Expedition sets, I stumbled upon the following on the Lego.com Orient Expedition Web Site: Explorer Log Book I thought this was a really neat idea to create a small book of the various adventure sets. I got busy and created pages using pictures of sets and set descriptions, even adding set reviews on some of the pages. The book came out pretty slick and serves as a great set reference. Here's some pictures that I just took earlier. Starting with the cover: I included a map within the inside cover: And here's a sample of one of the pages: I also included pages with bios on each of the adventurers (picture not shown). I've since added the Dinosaur Island sets, but never got around to the old Jungle and Desert Adventure sets. This was a great idea and a neat way to keep track of the Adventure sets. Here's a link to Lego's printable instruction page: Explorer Log Book

Nothing under $100 MISB here in the US. It seems pricey, but I would love to have a new one in a pristine box. I really regret not buying the Legend when it was available through SAH for $70. I purchased most of the Legends, not sure why I didn't pick this up at the time. Thanks for the info. I esp. like the natives and the baseplates. This would fit in so well with my Jungle.

As the drunken cowboys party in the saloon, Molly Brown sneaks out into the night... >:-) She sees her son's StageCoach near the livery where she quickly prepares two strong horses to pull it. She hops in the drivers seat and a cloud of dust follows her... She steers the Wells Fargo stagecoach #2 toward Dead Man's Canyon determined to drive her and the coach into the ravine! :'-( The relunctant horses make their way toward the canyon and although they try to stop, it is too late! 8-

Hey now! This was suppose to be an interview thread. The pressure is on!

I really like this 007. I'm very fond of covered bridges and the Washingtom Irvine story is what inspired my Dead Man's Bridge. I have always been impressed with your building style. Your building is far from standard square-locked designs (unlike mine), and capture a great amount of detail. The entire scene looks good, and the way you designed the trees is very non-traditional and clever. I love the use of the Ninja fortress as the foundation for the bridge and the black river is dreadfully haunting *wub* . I really like it (reminds me of Putrid Water). Overall, this is among my favorite of your MOCs (or right up there with your Mexican village). Excellent job and the figs and story a nice addition. *y*

I was going for the Vin Diesel look - sort of the cool adventurer. I actually like the face. You're absolutely right. In looking at it again, it is too plain. I actually had the piece your suggesting and was trying to figure out a nice way of attaching it. I didn't have any 1x1 brown hole pieces handy, so I left it off. It was just something I wanted to try. I already destroyed it last night. I had to wreck a number of things in the jungle to build it. I wanted things back to how they were. Thanks H-Brick. I think some nice boxart would have really made this look better (and better images). I couldn't take them without the flash, and when I did, the color was off. I don't often say this, but the actual MOC looked 100 times better than the images.

Thanks for the comments IS. That would be a nice idea, but I don't have any. Yes. They are lilly pads with frogs on them. I own this Playmobil set. Their Jungle sets were among my favorite theme (next to Western). Here's afew more shots taken on another camera. I was having trouble with lighting and the color just doesn't seem right:

My latest MOC related to Jungle Adventure, Crocodile Bridge. This build was inspired by a great Playmobil set, Crocodile Swamp. Unfortunately, I don't have any photo-editing software on my computer at this time, so these are all unedited photos. First, Playmobil's Crocodile Swamp (Inspiration Image): And for my Lego rendition: The two adventurers making their way across the bridge: Jungle Johnny in Indy gear: And his partner: A native shrine to ward off treasure hunters: I must say that the photos of this did not do it justice. My lighting is rather dim and I didn't want to wait until the AM to take these shots. Had I added some nice jungle box art, this would look 100 times better.

I would recommend the set Faramir. It's very slick. I really like the skeleton ship. As Plural mentioned (thanks by the way), check out the review. PS. If you plan to by the new Troll ship, you will definately want this to have some sea battles.

As long as you guys won't be upset if I don't do this. I was just thinking about it.

That's OK. I'm actually glad he pointed this out, as others probably think the same. No heartache on my part, nor for BM (as our two ghostly avatars have a supernatural duel along the main street of Ghost Town). :'-( Not any time soon. I've got jungle fever at the moment and will at least wait until the next collection of Indy sets are out to destroy it. I was actually thinking of doing something along the line of a jungle adventure (if some of you are interested) - and if my time permits. This would be a little fun and quirky as many seem to enjoy a little humor in these sorts of things. Then I had another thought to do sort of a Radio Murder Mystery, but that's not my interest at the moment. I'll add you to the list first IS if I do so. You may even get to play a lead role. ;-)

Thanks for the info Phez. I did check the prices onBricklink, but was really wondering if the price range for a MISB was a fair one. I understand that a few stores in Europe had this set on clearance and that the Islanders theme was not as popular as the main Pirate theme. I would pay the extra for a MISB set, as I do like my pieces new. I'm not sure if I would part this set out or set it up in its entirety as part of my Jungle Adventure. I would probably keep the set intact, and the use of the natives would be excellent. I like the canoe as well. While I like the baseplates, not sure how they would look on my existing water mat. In any case, thanks for the info. If anyone else has some tips or info about this great set, please let me know.

You can read about a discussion we had regarding his inspiration: Brickminer's Ghost Town Inspiration In fact, I had started calling my Ghost Town collection by the name of the town, Grave Stone, after he adopted the name in his MOCs. The original concept that I shared over EB in 2005 was intended to be a mystery with real images from desert areas in the West, far different than backgrounds like official Lego Wild West sets (as BrickMiner always created). Here's a few of the early images: Keeping a very similar theme and background imagery a few years later with better photo skills and new MOCs: It's no biggie, but I consider myself the creator of the Ghost Town sub-theme. Most of the older EB members probably kow this. You can read a little more about the history on my Grave Stone Web Site. Originality still remains very important to me. Thanks Iamded. Appreciate you reading the interview. I share your interest in the new Castle sets as well. *y*

I'm partial to Sony cameras. I like their picture quality and color. I've had two Cybershot cameras, one a pocket sized camera (the one I have now which is a 5.1) and an old 2.1 or 3.1 that took beautiful shots (used to take most of the pictures that I've posted to EB over the past several years). Unfortunately, it started turning itself on and off after I had it a few years. I still miss the quality of the images that it took. I like the size of my pocket camera because it's great when you go on vacation. I can keep it in my shirt pocket. The pictures in my signature were taken with it. I would strongly recommend that you spend a little extra to get a good quality camera. Otherwise, you'll be disappointed with your pictures and regret buying a cheaper model. Save up for it if you have to.

Excellent, thanks! ;-)

Darn! I wanted to do a separate thread for Westerns. You'll notice that I haven't added any of my favorites (like the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly).

Have any of you ever had any problem(s) with Lego Pick-A-Brick? I have only ordered twice and had no issue w/my first order. My 2nd order; however (that I just ordered a few weeks ago for my Jungle Adventure) took almost three weeks to never get. I understand that all Pick-A-Brick orders come from Denmark. That adds another week for orders here in the US (at least). I had been waiting for some time, and was tracking the order through DHL (one of the carriers Lego uses now). They turned the order over to my local post office (USPS), and that was the end of my order. Tracking showed the order as received several days ago, but I never got it. Now, Lego will credit my account, but I have to re-order and wait another three weeks. I am relunctant to order again as I don't want to wait another three weeks. This is the 1st order from Lego or anywhere that I have not received. You would think that there would be some Lego warehouse/Pick-A-Brick in the US for the US market. In any case, my Jungle remains untouched collecting dust as I decide what to do. Perhaps this is my way of venting more than anything, but has anyone else experienced trouble with Pick-A-Brick?

Jungles do take a lot of pieces (so I've discovered |-/ )

I've added a few more excellent movies, and will keep adding as I think of more. Feel free to share some if you think they're worth seeing. I'm not really doing Castle/Medieval, but rather Adventure.
