OLD Mafia and Mystery Games Index
MagPiesRUs replied to MagPiesRUs's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
It will be a standard mafia game. A pie twist you say? Good idea! I've quickly whipped up a teaser poster for it. Don't worry, I'll change the name later. Sure thing, I'll definitely be signing up - as long as roles are randomly assigned, that is... -
Congratulations to all of the winners, and thanks to the staff for such a cool and creative raffle, it was a lot of fun to be a part of.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Thanks! I would have liked to include doors, but I wanted to keep it as similar to the doorless vehicles in Race for the Stolen Treasure as possible (well, that and the fact that I didn't have enough black car doors on hand. ) Thanks again everyone!

The sets sound very nice. It's good to see a return of the skeletons, although a shame we haven't seen any dwarfs in the sets so far. The Troll Mountain Fortress sounds great, nice to get a stronghold for the trolls at last. With their lack of structures I had always thought of them as nomads or pirates. I do wonder what Drawbridge Defense is. A bridge, a castle section, or a small castle itself? Seeing as though the queen and jester are included, I would assume it would be a part of the castle, hopefully including a royal court or something similar. All in all, it sounds like we'll have a great castle line-up for 2009.

If you haven't had enough of me yet I could make a mafia game for January or February. No silly twists (well, maybe a couple...) this time. -
Witch Hunt Mafia - Conclusion
MagPiesRUs replied to MagPiesRUs's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Sorry about the 2 week delay (nothing unusual there eh?), the last month or so has been rather hectic for me. Firstly I'd like to thank everyone for being good sports (especially those who died), I'm glad that you've all taken this so well. I thought that it would be an interesting twist to have in a game, to see how a town that is completely working together will decide who is a witch, and to see how much players rely on powerful night roles to win the game for them. The idea (as well as the title ) was based on another game, Mechstra's Witch Hunt Mafia. One of the most amusing things for me was how some players came to the conclusion that anyone who was declared a witch by Fernando denied it and tried to help the town must be a witch. It got even better when players were congratulating those who had died for being such convincing witches. In the game I based this one off, the town won when the investigator was killed, but I decided not to use this victory condition. Although it would have made for a better climax, there were a few reasons why I decided against thus. Firstly, there was the possibility that the inquisitor could have been killed on the first night (after all, Miguel went after Priest Alexander on the first night didn't he?). It also would've meant that it would have been even harder for the person playing Fernando to win. As well as this, I wanted to show that sometimes brute force won't solve everything. With Fernando gone, the town still believed that there were witches, and were still very eager to continue the witch hunt. It would have been a shame to end the game when the town hadn't in fact solved anything. Finally, I wanted to show that you can't solve everything through sheer force. As for Fernando escaping, I don't know why the people would continue a witch hunt if the person who told them that they were infested with witches was declared a witch himself. In hindsight, I suppose it would have been better to have killed him to be consistent with the rest of the game, but at the time I decided to take a more realistic approach rather than a mafia game approach. Now for the clues. Well, there weren't too many clues, I felt that the continuous witch deaths were good enough. Off the top of my head, there was... Well, you got that one. As none of the town could float in water, and all witches supposedly float on water, none of the town were witches. (I was going to add something about being run over by a wagon of mortar, but decided against it. ) The search of Fernando's house and the letter also suggested that there were no witches. The rest of the "clues" throughout the game, from the lack of night actions to the lack of witch-items being bought showed that nothing suspicious was happening in Azufre. Ah yes, and "azufre" is Spanish for sulphur, or brimstone, and "fuego" is Spanish for fire. At the beginning of Day 1 I believe the town tried to find out what "azufre" meant, but as far as they got was that it was an anagram of "a furze". Roles Inquisitor Fernando - Paranoid Investigator (Investigated through Martinus) Priest Alexander - Bodyguard against converting (Needless to say, it was quite a useless role, though he would get some clues as to what had happened that night) General Christopher - Bodyguard against killing (Guarded through Sergio and Henry) Miguel - Vigilante The rest of the players had no special actions. Charles - arrogant, pompous noble Philip - quiet and studious noble Joan - an utter snob of a noble Isabella - very religious noble (this is why she was always at the church at midday) Mustafa - friendly Moorish merchant Bernard - nice German merchant Martinus - friendly baker-turned-torturer Hernan - swashbuckling farmer, expert swordsman (couldn't be killed at night) Gustavus - wise old farmer, father of Hernan John - nice weaver, in love with Sabrina (whoever Sabrina voted for, John had to vote for too) Sabrina - nice woman Cassandra - caring wife of Miguel Elisa - humble house maid of the nobles Night 1 Fernando - Investigate Bernard (success) Christopher - Protect Alexander (success) Alexander - Protect Mustafa (success) Miguel - Kill Alexander (fail) Sergio protects Alexander from being killed by Miguel. Night 2 Fernando - Investigate Miguel (success) Christopher - Protect Charles (success) Alexander - Protect Charles (success) Miguel - None Night 3 Fernando - Investigate Mustafa (success) Christopher - Protect Charles (success) Alexander - Protect Charles (success) Miguel - None Both Christopher and Alexander protect Charles again, hence the "oh, it's you two again." Night 4 Fernando - Investigate Sergio (success) Christopher - Protect Pablo (success) Alexander - Protect Miguel (success) Miguel - Kill Hernan (fail) Hernan unable to be killed at night. Night 5 Fernando - Investigate Miguel (success) Christopher - Protect Elisa (success) Alexander - Protect Joan (success) Miguel - Kill Charles (success) Night 6 Christopher - Protect Joan (success) Alexander - Protect Roberto (success) Miguel - Kill Isabella (success) I think that about wraps it up. If you have any more questions about the game, I'll be glad to answer them. Thanks for participating everyone, I had a lot of fun with this game and I hope you did too. -
Done! The red and white thing to the left was supposed to be a sort of candy cane, though it's ended up looking more like a road cone.

The Nazi staff car from the Raiders of the Lost Ark truck chase. I've tried to make it as similarly built as possible to the truck and jeep from 7622 Race for the Stolen Treasure, while still adding a few non-TLC techniques. Front: Side: Back: Without luggage: Staff car complete with poorly made minifigs of Belloq, Colonel Dietrich and Toht. A tight fit, but they're in! The staff car in action! ... And as promised, some shots of the truck chase in lego... Enjoy! Feedback is much appreciated.

Power Miners: New Sets for 2009
MagPiesRUs replied to cartoondude's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Has this set been posted yet? It seems to be a limited edition set... I'm loving the flick-fire dynamite... -
After an eventful week of witch-hunting, the town of Azufre could no longer find any heretics. They had come to somewhat of a stalemate. The town turned to Priest Alexander, who was now scanning the crowd for witches. The town soon followed him in his search... ... But found nothing suspicious. It had finally occurred to them - what if there were no witches? All along, the people of Azufre had been led on a wild goose chase, searching for something that had never existed in this proud and pious community. The witch hunt was over. The crowd soon dispersed, and began to get back to their ordinary lives, the lives they had lived before the coming of the witch hunt. With the loss of six prominent members of the town, however, it could never be the same. The town was scheduled to attend the funerals of these six citizens over the next few days, but for now the town returned to their houses for the night. They were pleased that this bloody ordeal was at last over. High above Azufre six figures looked on, relieved that the town had found peace once more. Should any other hardships befall them, they would be able to watch over their old beloved home... The Survivors of Azufre: - Sergio (lego12) - Miguel (Quarryman) - Elisa (ImperialScouts Wilhelm Screamer) - Pablo (Atoll Dweller) - John (Darth_Legois) - Alexander (ImperialShadows) - Mustafa (Dragonator) - Martinus (Pickerel) - Henry (darthperson) - Philip (Adam) - Gustavus (Norrington wouwie13) - Christopher (WhiteFang) - Joan (Zepher) - Roberto (pr0visorak) Reserves: - Sir Dillon Those Residing in the Kingdom of Heaven: - Bernard (Trexxen)- Burned at the Stake: Day 2 - Cassandra (Bob the Construction Man) - Burned at the Stake: Day 3 - Sabrina (Lt. Col. Thok alexrider7 I Scream Clone) - Burned at the Stake: Day 4 - Hernan (stash2sixx) - Burned at the Stake: Day 5 - Charles (Hinckley) - Shot: Night 5 - Isabella (kill will) - Shot: Night 6 Those Burning in the Flames of Hell: - A full explanation of the game should be up later on. In the meantime, please give feedback, comment on the game and if you must, call me nasty names.

Isabella made her way back to her manor from the church, wondering to herself who the next to be killed would be... ... She came to a sudden halt... *BANG!* A cockerel cried, greeting the new day... And straight away, the soldiers of Azufre began their duty. The soldiers entered and searched Fernando's quarters. They uncovered a letter sent to the inquisitor... After searching the house the town gathered around to see something they had become accustomed to seeing since the beginning of the witch hunt... Isabella was dead. Using Fernando's "An Inquisitor's Guide to Witch-Spotting" book, Priest Alexander was soon able to declare: "Isabella was a Witch! The crowd let out another cheer, before returning to their bloody business... Rules: Witch Hunt Mafia will follow the basic rules of mafia. Every day the town will be able to kill someone off. To do so, they will need to get the majority of the players to vote for one player. Once someone is voted off, it will be night time, and those with night actions will be able to PM me to tell me what they are going to do. If the day lasts for more than 4 real days, it will be night. Night will typically last about 2 real days, and if you don't PM me your night action in time, it won't be counted. In addition to this... I. Thou shalt not vote without typing it in bold. Please use these examples: Vote: Player or Unvote II. Thou shalt not edit thy posts. Doing so 3 times will incur the wrath of God. III. Thou shalt not post in the game threads when you are dead. You're dead. Act like it. IV. Thou shalt not give hints or suggestions about the game when you are either dead or are not a participant. Feedback is okay though. V. Thou shalt not be a sore loser. It's only a game. VI. Thou shalt not sign up if you are not going to participate. VII. Thou shalt not rush the host. I'm just trying to take some pictures in natural light. VIII. Thou shalt not - err, seven commandments are good enough aren't they? IX. Thou shalt not quote what I said from a PM. If you must, please paraphrase. Quoting one of my PMs will also incur the wrath of God. X. Thou shalt not judge a book by it's cover. Just because they have angry faces, it doesn't mean they're heretics. To clarify... - You are allowed to communicate with other players via PM - Don't take my word as fact. Some information or clues could possibly be misleading, just as some could be helpful. Yes, the exams have finished, but unfortunately I don't have access to a camera and haven't for the past 2 days. I should be able to get photos tommorow though so you can expect Day 7 to be up by then. Thanks for your patience everyone.

The Many Adventures of the Whacker and the Walrus #7
MagPiesRUs replied to Hinckley's topic in Brick Flicks & Comics
Great work! I loved the muffin-munching Bonaparte and the needless violence - though I'm not quite sure what you were referencing in the last few panels... -
... If you knew all of the answers to the game, you'd understand why I've done this. You'll just have to trust my decision for now.
-
... And it's up. I have a feeling you'll all hate me even more now.

After what seemed like days (weeks even), the people of Azufre had decided to kill Fernando the Inquisitor. "Why have you come to Azufre?" "You are witch scum, aren't you?" "Why haven't any innocents died yet?" "Aren't Joan's megablocks lovely?" "Why do you always announce who has died?" "Blimey, I didn't expect a sort of Spanish Inquisition!" "Answer us!" Miguel shouted. "Well, there's a perfectly good explanation for everything..." And with that, he was off! *BANG* Miguel fired a shot off at the Inquisitor, the musket ball finding it's mark on the man's shoulder. But this did not stop Fernando. He continued to run. *BANG* Another shot was fired... ... But this time the musketball missed, instead carving it's way through Charles' ugly grave... Fernando escaped. Some say the Inquisitor died a few days later from the musket wound. Others say he sailed to the New World, where he became minister of a small church in somewhere called Salem... Nevertheless, he was never seen by the people of Azufre again. "Fear not, good people of Azufre," Priest Alexander said, "I will take over leadership of this witch hunt!" Surely there couldn't be many more heretics still lurking in the town... Get your night actions in now. Day 6 will start in 3 days. It will start earlier if all night actions are in before then.

Alright Mr. Weekly-Comic-Witch, it's coming now.
-
I don't want to do a half-hearted job. Give me another day.
-
I may be late in posting the results for today, as I am busy this week and I'd like to do this well. Besides, I'm sure most of you can't hate me much more than you already do.

The town gathered again after their short break. Mustafa checked his profits... Before joining the ever-growing crowd...
-
It was midday in Azufre, and the citizens took another break from prosecuting. To the church went Alexander, as well as Isabella, Miguel and Sergio. Mustafa opened up shop, though he had very little goods left from the previous days. Following him were Pablo, Fernando and John. Martinus opened up the bakery, but no customers arrived. It may have had something to do with the smell of burnt flesh, and perhaps the rack lying in the middle of the shop. Roberto unveiled his forge, and Gustavus came to have a look. Once again Christopher and Henry were on patrol in Azufre. Joan and Philip returned to the manors, as did Elisa. (I have had exams last week and have more this week, so I apologize if I am late to post clues and results)

I can assure you that I am not helping the witches, nor am I making things unfair for the town. Thank you.
