Well, i don't like (pod-)racing at all. While the scenes in the movie were memorable and certainly appeal to younger audience, i personally could only consider to buy the set on a drastical discount - and only because of the alien figs included.

Absolutely gorgeous! A wonderful 'set' - i would wish TLG could consider to publish it that way. There are ample details to look at and spots to create interesting scenes with. The only thing to be improved is the colouring. The light red parts seem a little too new, clean and cheerful, imho. A few more 'irregular' bricks in tan and different shades of brown would catch the atmosphere even better i think. This being said, you did great work here. I especially like the lively croud made up of custom figs and a multitude of exotic aliens. That's the fascinating ambiente one would expect from Mos Eisley. Keep it up!

This year's 'May the Forth be with you' event was good, indeed. What's the next date based special offer when can expect? Is there a specialized threat for all kinds of special offers or is it the one mentioned above? I'd like to plan ahead a bit with my budgets. -
You're welcome. I like that idea and the ship itself but believe this to be very improbable. The Gallofree Yards medium transport is a pure freighter design. A very detailed and interesting one but still a freighter. I guess that more people are interested in combat or at least action based vehicles. To have kind of a scale, it would have to be fairly huge and this would increase the price for a mediocre thingy. I'd buy it but who else... I guess you're right. Y-wings aren't that closely associated with Hoth. And your guess at the price sounds reasonable, too. A big set but in range of a good 'present for birthday/christmas'. I personally hope that you are right because then we could expect an expanded, playable set full of features. The old set was limited in brick count and price when released. A bigger iteration could resemble kind of a standalone to face the AT-AT set. If it were a mere addition to 2007's base - which isn't available under total rip-off prices anymore - there would always miss something. Something important i believe. Regarding the set composition i hope for: Outdoor turret, gate, small command post, indoor vehicle or repair crane, T-47, medical bay and hurt/Hoth Luke, Leia, Derlin, Rebel Pilot, mechanic, red 3PO, 2 rebel troopers, Taun-Taun, 2+ snowies, Vader, E-web, probe droid and maybe an imperial vehicle. An AT-ST would be cool but a snow speeder bike might be more likely.

That's one great piece of fine art. A good idea, well executed and absolutely hilarious. Thanks for sharing, Bane. Keep it up.

Oh, a big thanks - you made this one happy A Taun-Taun for recon and Bren Derlin to oppose Veers would be very nice. If it's true that the set follows the 'Battle of Endor' footsteps, i would be highly pleased and buy it for sure. BoE is the single best SW playset TLG has done so far. Owning just one T-47 via the Wampa Cave, getting some backup would be ok. I hope for the existing design because it would look a little weird if every unit in a collection were different, imo. In general a big 7879 with many features would vertainly give a second wind to sales of other Hoth sets, especially the AT-AT and BPs, i guess. Call me a nerd but i have a fairly precise imagination of how the bacta tank will look like. And 2-1B will certainly join the party.

It was my first order at S@H and do not have any official Lego store around so the matter might be pretty futile then, anyway. I hoped for some goodie code or stuff instead. Thanks for the info, though. -

Just as you said. Minifigs make money. Getting all the main protagonsists with just one set would reduce sales of other sets. TLG wishes us to open collections, don't they? Having some antagonist included does severely influence playbility within one set and Vader certainly makes for a good 'bad boy'. The minifig combination for the new Falcon seems to be kind of a compromise. I for one would have preferred more 'baddies to put up a fight' but a starter would love to have the main crew. I am fairly sure that such a person would try to either get the Tantive or Luke's speeder to complete the crew of main protagonists. Overall, i will be happy to finally get OT Vader who misses in my collection while Chewie and Han already have a bunch of twin-siblings. Btw., as a non-registered customer who ordered at S@H - will i get those VIP points or whatever stuff has been told next to the red brickling on the order page? -

Ah, i see. Thank you for your answer. An educated guess is way better than a big questionmark. Is 'black friday' in regards of special offers being available to anyone outside the USA? Does TRU for example let international customers profit from this regional specialty? -
Hehe, great stuff. You just made my day.

Huh, i might run the risk to become the most curious person on the boards: From what source can we get a hint at how long a set is being produced? I am considering to place another order at S@H - the AT-AT, getting another ARF trooper along the way. If however the set is likely to stay in production for a while, chances to land on a special offer might significantly rise. The AT-AT is acclaimed to be 'limited editon' and might phase out soon. Nonetheless, the same was/is/will be true for the X-wing which has been in production for more than 4 years... What do you think? -
Thank you Doc for this excellent review. I am always raving about getting getting the set or waiting for an 'overhaul'. Since i already own most of the minifigs, this pro of the set does not appeal. This is no failure of the set composition - which is very good in it's own right. Main reasons to hold me back are chance that a new iteration might be published next year or so and the horrible price in Europe. If it were on par with the USD (33,71 EUR), i and probably a few thousand other people would make a run for the set. The only downsides regarding the design i can see are the rubber parts for the S-foils (are there reserves ones?!) and the low accuracy of the back of the ship. The rest looks like a good design to me. BTW, apart from Luke's lightsaber - are any weapons being included for the minifigs? Regarding your secondary question in the poll: As said i do not feel safe going after this atm. A strict necessity of an overhaul i cannot see. If such one contained new parts for an even more accurate redesign - i would welcome it of course. Voted neutral there.
-
If you are referring to my statement on 55+ bucks - in my country this is the case. At least one moment where currency value is being taken into consideration. Sad that i cannot get two ARF for my placed order which has been confirmed already.
-
For me it's the Tantive IV. I was considering to buy it all the time but LEGO did already severely damage my budget for the last month. Limited playability value (interior) also held me back. This offer was the final blow to get over the line. Just as we are at it and a new month has begun: In theory - if i placed a second order above 55 bucks - would i receive a second ARF trooper?

Thx for your replies. I guess we just get to know half the story but that's at least something. I do not actually feel ripped off. It only feels a little strange when a unique selling proposition (is it that easy?!) gets such vastly explored in some countries. One better gets searching for special offers then. -

Just another question. I wonder on TLG's policy regarding prices in different currencies. Let's take the X-Wing. It goes for 49.99 USD in America and is being sold for 64.99 EUR in the 'old world'. Taking currency values into consideration (1.48 to 1 atm), an American would have to pay 96.19 USD if he bought an X-Wing during a trip to Europe. That's almost twice the price!!! What reasoning is behind this? I hope that there is something different than TLG just believing the Europeans to be wealthier which certainly isn't true on average. -
@desinholic That Stormie Bowler is really great. Well positioned and absolutely hilarious. Keep it up! @Solscud Your Wampa Scenes are gorgeous. What ground and background did you use? The mist is atmospheric and fits perfectly into the scene. How did you create it?

Yes, that's what i am searching for. A big thanks for your quick reply, AndyC. Umm, how do i identify a trustworthy retailer at Bricklink? Sry if that's kind of a dumb question but as of yet, i only see a gazillion of would-be retailers of little renown. -
But just as we are at phantasizing - IF had heard this from a LEGO employee, the set would just turn a hundred metric tonnes more interesting to guys like me.

Yes, i do agree. As a late starter i really miss it. I have only seen video reviews of it and also believe that it's a great set with loads of playability value. The hut's minimalistic design offers so much opportunity to do something within when folded out. Memories from good old times - when the movie and i were young - return every time i spot the lego hut somewhere.

Just something different: Where do i get those nice minifig stands? I do not mean some obscure secondary retailer from 'only god knows where' who rips the pieces out of sets but some trustworthy (official?) retailer with fair prices. Are the stands included in the minifig series? Would you recommend them in general? Do you see what you get from the package or is it kind of a random 'trading toy thingy'? -
Ok and thx for this honest answer. I believe in your statement. What's your guess on the price? Seconded. It's ok to express disappointment or alterating expectations but must it necessarily be disdain - in advance?!
