Wow, what an outstanding review! Congratulations - you are setting the standard even higher. I especially like the lighting, choice of angles and the crystal clear quality of the pics. Regarding the set itself - i had already had a word on the older review here. Back then my enthusiasm was a little limited. But when the 4th was with me - i couldn't resist. I have never regretted that step. The ship is kind of iconic and beautifully designed. It could only have been better if there was some more interior. If not perfect, the set is still very good and very well deserves the title of being an anniversary set.

LEGO Star Wars 2012 Pictures and Rumors

Well, some nice ideas here Umm, is any toy fair just around the corner or so? I really hope that we will get some pics for the upcoming wave soon. -
Hehe, Subscribed! I like your idea very much. While having two opposing vehicles is great for playbility - and the chois is the best imagineable - i would still hope for some emphasis on the building and scenery to set the general mood. Sets featuring this work best, IMO.

Hello and welcome to the forums! I am probably not alone in recommending set 8038 to you. I's go as far and say that this is among the most acclaimed OT sets TLC has published so far. It has an acceptable piece/price ratio (for an SW set that is) and offers structures, vehicles, famous (and many) minifigs and also some elements that represent nice playing features. IMO it's an excellent toy and collection piece at the same time. It was published in 2009, went out of stock some time ago and another production run was done. That indicates quite some popularity, i guess. If you're more into building, emphasize display purposes and don't mind limited 'toy qualities', 10198 is a good choice. It is fairly huge for a LEGO and quite an iconic OT ship. But the new Falcon, too, is a well done set. It was just released and you might find it on sale before it gets sold out. I ordered it more than a month ago and still await it's arrival hotly. I highly recommend you to have a look into this thread where you can find outstanding reviews. It's helpful to see in advance what you will get. Happy bricking! -
LEGO Star Wars 2012 Pictures and Rumors

Huh, now even more than ever i am glad to not watch the animated series. This set just died for me - may all figs be zombies or the cannon made of ... whatever... -
A Theed Palace woud indeed be nice. In general i would love to see some (bigger) sets that could pose as a civilian spot. I know this is Star Wars and there ought to be action - yes, that's what we love about it. Still, places like Cloud City, Mos Espa, Mos Eisley Cantina etc. are well suited to represent where people in SW actually do live. That's what i like so much about 10193 and 7189 - the only kingdoms/castles sets i bought within the last 25 years.

Cited from 2012 index: "9491 Geonosian Cannon Figs: 4 (Gree, Geonosian Warrior, Geonosian Zombie & Bariss Offee) Vehicles: Price: ? EUR / ? USD / ? GBP Subtheme: XXX Pieces: Unknown Release: 2012 S@H" Please tell me that this is kind of a typo! -
Huh? In Germany it goes the other way round. The AT-AT just went up to 129 bucks since i last checked at TRU. Heh??? What about the Lego SW summer sale (20%) at TRU in Germany? I am checking since May. They had reduced all Lego for a time already - except books and SW.

Just as a sidenote - you complain on the prices in USD. Please do yourself a favor and compute the prices in EUR - on the basis that they have a higher numerical price in Europe, too. You might come to the conclusion that you are not that bad off, after all. However, i share part of your overall sentiment. 10 bucks is not that much of a calamity, though. IMO the decisive question is what we get for this. Bricks/price ratio is only part of the story. An not to be underestimated one, yes. But not the only one. Some sets have big or rare parts in them, in some cases the minifigs are exclusive and well printed etc. I haven't much use for MINIs. If the selection of contents in the collectibles is somewhat special, mi might overcome my initial scepticism. Let's see what pics we hopefully see soon. -

Huh? I like Wald. Finally a sympathetic Rodian. And it's always good to see a light side minded alien without any evil scheme in the SW universe. Jar Jar was just a step over the line - a big one, yes. -

While waiting for more than a month for my huge delivery of summer wave sets i thought it over. Overall the upcoming set list sounds promising. I am interested in at least half of the them. I wonder that no real 'biggie' is among them. A Theed palace or Cloud City (eh?! ) would have been great. Well, UCS remain to be announced and after a wave is before the next, or so they say. Now there's everything about the set compositions. So we want pics, don't we? Well, i have no idea what this 'hollow planet' thingy is supposed to be. IIRC those collectibles are to be expected at around 10 bucks - so what will we get for this price? If it's like a 3XXXX mini plus a minifig and a paper display - no, thanks. Did TLG ever came up with something like that before? Does anybody have an idea what this is up to? -

Oh yes, perfectly agreed. A 'place' the respective vehicle belongs to was a great plus about some older sets (Imperial inspection being my favourite in this regard). I would highly welcome this for the upcoming X-Wing, too. -

You have a point here. Summer wave hitting cinema release... BTW, the B-wing is no ANH vehicle. According to canon Ackbar definitely developed it later. At least the X-Wing is a fairly safe bet. 6212 disappeared from many localized S@H pages and even TRU (in GER) doesn't have it any more. These are good indicators, i think. -

Umm, two questions actually: 1) When do the winter wave sets usually become available (in Europe)? I heard that October is the usual time. Correct? 2) I considered to add some magnet figs to my collection. What to think of them? Are they fully functioning? Can they be changed (torso/head etc.)? EDIT: Saw a Vader in my favored Galeria, too. It's about 4-5 feet tall and usually fixed to the gound. Looked as funny as impressive how he stood between a bunch of excited kids. -

Well, i followed the thread closely but didn't know what to think of the rumors the last days. As Brickdoctor said, it's all just so confusing. However, the more Mirandir told, the more plausible it seems. There is some strange kind of consistency about it. Mixed BPs is a two sided medal. The intent to allow for full playability within one set is perfectly sound. I really like that. The backside is a reduced number of different figs per side in a BP theme - the number gets halved. I liked the last BPs with mostly 3 different figs for one side. Especially the Hoth BPs were pretty good, IMO. The choice of figs for the rumored upcoming BPs is a good one, still. I miss the Navytrooper, Rebel Commando officer and the Super Battle droid but there is content to 'work with'. The selection could be worse indeed. Do i like what we got so far in rumors? Umm, pretty much undecided without knowing what sets/contents we can expect. I like the idea of many OT sets but this is a matter of taste of course. At least i think they sell fairly well what would make this dominance pretty explainable. Just two sets about TPM? Why this? The film probably is not the most liked one of the hexalogy (i like it very much for the cast and the introductory feeling about a declining republic and a waning Jedi Order) but it's the headliner of the SW year i guess. We really have reason to expect some more. Especially more than two sets of 10 bucks each. At least Tatooine and Theed offer quite some potential to create interesting (bigger) sets. Well, too early to express disappointment or anything like that. It's way too early and we know too little yet to have any justified reason for that. As usual i stay on track and hope for some more revelations soon. -

This idea makes me shivering. Just imagine you would have to wait for 6 waves (3 years) to get your Jabba's palace finished. And you get the snail as the last (they'll cerrtainly not give out the best part as first). Who the heck would be willing to wait that long and have some unfinished set combo around in the meantime??? The ones willing to stick to their LEGO passion that long will certainly feel some relief when it's done but i assume this bunch to be no match to the number of passionate collectors who are willing and able to pay a 100 bucks or more at once. Collectibles within one wave would make more sense, but then again - why splitting into two 'half-goods' if there's enough people to spend a 100 for something good? This idea only makes sense if each 'part-set' makes for a fairly good standalone. The way it is with most of the Hoth sets. Combined they are one hell of a diorama - and each is playable and displayable on it's own. I could imagine the same for Tatooine (Luke's speeder, Podracers, Mos Espa market/arena, Mos Eisley cantina, Sandcrawler and whatever else). However, then there would be nothing new about this scheme - it's the way TLG has been making SW sets from the start. If there is something collectible in the future - i guess it will be done somehow different. And i hope so, too. -
Well, in my post i told the upper edge of the price range. Seems i got used to suffering already. In general i just outlined the figs. Of course in most cases kind of another smaller vehicle and maybe scenery items are to expected. Regarding Cloud City - i am not so sure that so many people would run for it @ 400 bucks. With the Death Star this works because it is ultimate in many respects: The ultimate superweapon, the ultimate iconic SW 'starship', the ultimate i.e. largest space station people could imagine, the ultimate and dominating vehicle in OT, the ultimate spot for epic and decisive battles i.e. story hooks and one could continue this. 24 figs and a starfighter added to the value. It IS great for display - even for adults (who are the only to afford such stuff). Cloud City is memorable, yes and probably the most desired playset among the community. It went as a UCS with 7 minifigs and didn't need more than around 700 bricks to be a very good set. Few sets are more rare and more expensive on the secondary market than this 2003 masterpiece. A nice quantum of OT fans long for it. But 400 bucks is highest stake. I am sure TLG wants to sell a few thousands units and spread the LEGO Star Wars idea among a younger audience along the way, too. For CC you would find many many willing customers @ my suggested price range. And TLG would have the freedom to to use a dozen of minifigs and more than 1k of bricks to make this an excellent set (with some nice features), maybe even a Cloud Car. But a 3,5k bricks behemoth - did we see enough spots of Cloud City, enough hot scenes with enough screen time to make it worthwile recreating them in fullest detail? Honestly, i don't think so. Cloud City is great stuff - but not the same magnet as a Death Star is. TLG went the risk with the SSD. I hope for it's success but i bother a bit. Don't get me wrong - i want a Cloud City just as i want a Star Destroyer or a Super Star Destroyer - but not for more than 150 bucks, my upper limit. And at this mark, i expect some brilliance as with the Tantive IV and the new Falcon. It's possible as 8038 has shown with 12 minifigs (some exclusives among them!) at a price tag of 100 bucks. Apart from this, i like your choice of figs proposed. My choice differs in that we already have so many chewies and got the droids multiple times, too.

Yes, perfectly agreed. Aside from hardcore SW fans who own virtually every (written not painted) SW novel, few people even know who Dash Rendar or Prince Xizor is... And only a few more do want to get to know anything about them. PT sounds way more realistic to me. -

Prelimiary picture... i love the sound of that. When can we expect such to appear. Any toir fair anytime soon? And in general - when do the winter wave sets usually become released? -
Well, if you have nothing about the Battle of Hoth, this set might not satisfy. There have admittedly been better standalone sets. But if you own a T-47 rebel air speeder - which is available from a multitude of sets - the refueling stations does make perfect sense. If you own an X-Wing - which is available in a multitude of iterations - the crane does make perfect sense, too.

TLG = The LEGO group TLC = The LEGO company (a misperception of the company's name which is above, AFAIK) TFU = The Force unleashed, a video game by Lucas Arts. Intended to be expanded universe but was announced to be canon EU = Expanded universe, stuff of a multitude of novels, basically everything outside the films that George Lucas has not knighted to be canon OT = Original trilogy, episodes IV to VI BP = battle pack, packs of usually 4 minifigs with some vehicle/scenery SE = special edition, a set that is only sold by TLG and some licensed retailers like toys'r us Hope this helps. EDIT: Beaten by two... -

Ah, i see. Thanks for sharing this valuable info. Of the animated series stuff BP, one will suffice for me then. Of the Endor BP, i might require quite a few to get a squad of stormies then. However, there's a another good thing about this BP, too: My forests of Endor will grow substantially. The trees might also find a use for my kingdoms civil sets, either. To me, all my LEGO sets are supposed to be put on the shelf. Thus i wonder what these new collectibles will be. Thanks for this enlightening answer. I am sure it looks awesome - for as long as no one touches it. That's kind of a thing to put on a shelf indeed. -

But they are just chrome coloured and still made of plastic? Well, what would one do with 7 kilos of LEGO shaped metal on the shelf?! But in earnest - the set looks beautiful. And TPM is just around the corner. Not the worst of ideas to bring that up now.
