From a Dutch website specialised in food container supplies, here's the link of which 8 exactly fit in an Iris drawer, 7 Euro for 100 of them, dimension 108x82x45mm https://www.allesvoorverswinkels.nl/plastic-bakjes-250ml-polypropyleen-zwart Any bright LED light with 6500 Kelvin white light, I use Philips Hue so when not sorting the light can also have other colors.

@Coren In almost all drawers I use small containers of which exactly eight fit in a drawer. They are very cheap food containers without lid, also available in a transparent version. Nowadays it is easy to 3D print containers in various sizes to fit the drawers (or buy from someone who prints them for you) but with these amounts of drawers it gets more expensive than the drawers themselves. The space below the table is also packed with drawers.

Generic Contest Discussion
Berthil replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It wouldn't be the first time a contest is organised right after I just finished a model that could have been in the contest. -
Great progress with excellent detailing! Great job on the lights too!

[MOC] Manta Ray
Berthil replied to Berthil's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Surely I looked at the Stodeer one but I don't feel I need to give them credit for a LEGO build with totally different materials and solutions implemented. I can't count the GBC designs I have created and made free instructions for that you can find on Temu, Ali, Vonado and many others without compensating or even asking me. My main inspiration was the Manta Ray making a barrel roll under my nose at Kona Hawaii. And since all Manta Rays have a unique belly pattern, I now know the Manta Ray that I've seen from so close. It's a she and called Amanda Ray, you can recognise the belly pattern on the video. She's alive and well but now has a damaged pectoral fin because of fishing line! https://mantarayadvocates.com/manta-ray/amanda-ray-hawaii/ -
A Manta Ray with moving pectoral fins, moving tail and heartbeat LED lighting. Some call it a kinetic sculpture, most of it is Technic. Since it moves, here is the video. In the video is the inspiration for this build; A Manta Ray made a barrel roll under our nose at Kona Hawaii. Awesome experience. The building instruction is available on Rebrickable: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-215424/Berthil/manta-ray/

Here's my storage, everything sorted on brick type first, then colour depending on storage space. Very happy with it although I might convert to Ikea storage some day. This is a happy building place.

[TC28] Pendulum Clock
Berthil replied to Berthil's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It seems the extra speed averages out well, even in the 5 min. run in the video but certainly in the three four hour timelapse runs. A weight climbing up a chain is not feasible in this very compact table design. -

[TC28] Pendulum Clock
Berthil replied to Berthil's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks for the stats! In the 12h video I've put the rewinder on max power on the 9V train speed controller. In the 5 min. video the controller is on half power which of course make the rewinder go slower but also causes the PowerFuctions switch into a lingering half on / half off mode which makes the rewinder even go slower. So that could also be visible in your stats. With the 9V train controller this happens less often but when it does, the rewind period is still shorter. When a battery box is used as the power source the power is always maximum so that is good. In the 12 hours I had to stop and restart the clock two times because of the battery life limit on the camera, so I think the error is even smaller than that because the main error in the 40 seconds is the restart and I can't control the seconds hand and time of Timelapse picture that precise on a restart. When watching the three runs of 4 hours separately there is on average no more than 25 seconds over the 3 stints, that's 0,17% deviation over 4 hours. This must indeed be because the circumference on the string drum is getting less when the weight is going down because there is less string on the drum, and as a result, so is the torque on the mechanism via the drum axle. You are correct with your analysis. When using a chain this effect would no be there, but the direction of the mechanism doesn't allow for a chain. Very nice to see in the data that it is that sensitive, thanks again! -

The 12h Timelapse is done and I'm pretty happy with it as this was my first Timelapse video ever. I had to do it in 3 takes because the camera battery life does not go further than 4 hours and a bit. 1 photo every minute so the position of the seconds hand shows the deviation to the one minute. There is a sunset and sundown but unfortunately not visible in the video light. On the watch next to the clock it is visible that the clock is very accurate. I had to crawl back from the kitchen to make sure I wasn't in the background A building instruction is in preparation and will be published after the competition. -
I've build it! @Chrismo72 thank you for sending the Stud.io file! It was necessary to make structural changes and (non-existing) part replacements but managed to do so without losing the well designed details of Chrismo72, I'm very pleased with the final result. The structural integrity is very good and I added a stand to the model. I was able to eliminate studs on the outside but for the ones who like the studs under the windows, part 33909 (modified tile 2 x 2 with studs on edge) can be used instead of a regular 2 x 2 tile. All in all it was very much work and with the approval of Chrismo72, the building instruction is available on Rebrickable: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-211814/Berthil/sar-queen-helicopter/ @Chrismo72 thank you again for designing and making the Stud.io file available and am looking forward to your version in real bricks!

[TC28] Pendulum Clock
Berthil replied to Berthil's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thank you all! Next week I'm home-alone and hope to run the clock for 12 hours with a timelapse video. I will have a look if I can provide as I already have recorded the clock for 5 minutes, I should be able to export the sound only and make it available to you. I'll let you know via PM. I expect the standard deviation is not that good because when the driver weight is lifted, the clocks runs noticeably faster. -

Berthil replied to Berthil's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I see the clock more as demo of what can be achieved with Technic. It is possible to get it accurate with a lot of testing and shifting the upper and lower pendulum weights, but in the end it is still LEGO. I expect ambient temperature will have the most influence on the clock, as with real clocks. -
[TC28] Pendulum Clock
Berthil replied to Berthil's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The build of the clock is finished. Before the contest deadline, not because it was easy, but because I spend a lot of time on it. I still had to do optimisations by replacing a few bevel gears with straight teeth gears for better meshing and less friction, as well positioning the hour ring better for more reliability. I've run the clock for a full day without problems. The clock is 100% LEGO (over 2000 parts) without stickers and has 67 gears. Here a short video. I want to add a 12h timelapse of the clock to the video for the final presentation, although I have never done that before. At the end of the video a 5 min run (x20) shows that the clock was accurate by 0.12 seconds after 5 minutes! -

Berthil replied to Berthil's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Some progress, and an important one! I've tried several other escapements but got the original one running after more friction improvements. I had to add more weight because the weight would stop on the bottom switch occasionally. Next is adding the clock face, hour ring and minutes hand. I expect no problems with friction because these are geared down considerably. The ball drop chime I still need to test by letting the clock run longer, I will do that with a 9V train power supply, the batteries are almost empty here (old ones). -
It's not you that should feel old, it's the giggling young folks spending (too much) time at whatnot that should feel stupid, or at least are not getting smarter by looking at influencer bullsh*t. I've installed it and works well, thanks for the tip. EB Dark Mode works better with it, no white flash when loading pages and I don't have to set EB to Dark Mode every new day.
-
I'm super happy with the dark mode, thank you for all the efforts! I've done such migrations in the past too on a large forum, it's a pain with all the plugins and custom CSS. I'm sure from now on it's just a matter of optimising, including the removal of the white flickr just before a dark mode page gets fully loaded. It might just be something like the background color in CSS or even replacing an image. Or this is something to take up with the forum software developer if not in the hands of an EB host admin. Another small remark, just as I type this I see the box with ''Drag here to attach, or choose files...", still with a limit of 4,63 kb, just enough for an avatar. So seeing that box under every message while typing is not very useful although the ''Other Media" button on the right is. Also, the 'special ranks' images just below the Country are not next to each other but I'm sure you also noticed.
