LEGO Star Wars 2020 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
jdubbs replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I don't recall this ever happening. Typically we get 3-4 unnamed, massable figures pulled from the prior year's sets — Cloud Car Pilot, Bespin Guard, Stormtroopers and Rebel Soldiers, an officer of some kind. Battle droids a plenty. This year is uncommon in that we are getting multiple named/primary characters, more like the Harry Potter Advent from last year. -

The shop is wrong. It is not. The snowspeeder was an even smaller vehicle (in-universe) and it was $200. -

I think Disney would kill for a repeat of Baby Yoda. The publicity generated from that reveal was clearly worth whatever they sacrificed in immediate merchandising profits. -

They generally do include everything in the double vip sales, though there have been a few times when a just-released D2C is specifically excluded. So at this point I don’t see them excluding the Falcon, since it wasn’t excluded in previous sales and is now 2 years old. -

Minifigs from the Tantive leaked well in advance of the set’s announcement. It was pretty much known at that point. If you’re looking for “officially confirmed”, you might as well limit yourself to Lego’s website, rather than asking on a forum like this. -

I think you guys are focusing too much on price per part. All parts are not created equal, and all parts don't cost the same amount to design, tool, manufacture, ship, etc. -

Once a set number is assigned, it sticks with that set whether it's released or not. There are skipped numbers most every year, and only on one or two occasions have they shown up in a subsequent year (the UCS Snowsoeeder is the only example I can think of, which was delayed from one year to the next... but there may be others). The three sets which some retailers listed as "cancelled" may show up next year, or not at all. But I wouldn't hold my breath. -

The fact is we don't know how the character shows up. For all we know she's the reveal in the final moments of the final episode of the season. See how I did that? I used the spoiler button. Cost me nothing, but allowed EU viewers to continue enjoying the first season of Mando. That's all I'm suggesting. Be respectful of others. Doesn't kill you to think about how others want to enjoy these series/movies, rather than just yourself. (And, plenty of leaks appear in Hollywood Reporter and other mainstream media. The fact that Disney isn't throwing the full might of their legal department at them doesn't mean Disney is happy that they're being published. They're still leaks.) -

I've yet to see anything from Rosario Dawson confirming this casting. I don't see it on her Twitter or Instagram accounts, and none of the articles I can find quote her directly. And, as others have said, it's not an announcement; it's a leak. (And no, not everything can be kept under wraps like Baby Yoda, a secret that required herculean efforts to keep, and cost Disney unknown millions in product merchandising). If Disney were going to announce this — which they haven't — they'd do it at Celebration, or in a teaser trailer, or just say something vague like "Rosario Dawson has been cast as a familiar face." Regardless of whether you personally see this as a spoiler, the fact is that others do, and it would not kill any of you to use a spoiler tag around something that is even just questionably spoilery. I went into Rise of Skywalker with no idea that a certain OT character would make an appearance on Kef Bir, and I was generally surprised to see him standing there, which added substantially to my enjoyment of the movie. Had someone spoiled that bit of casting news, it certainly would have diminished my enjoyment of the film. I would say the same of Ashoka's appearance in Rebels, and Leia's appearance in Rogue One, and so on. There's simply no reason to broadcast this info on a LEGO forum when there is an option to hide the info just a click away. I would also remind everyone that major plot spoilers for both The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker were maliciously broadcast to many people on this very forum by ChristopherLee, so there is a bit of sensitivity among some of us that that not happen again. So maybe instead of digging your heels in the dirt and insisting that anyone who doesn't share you definition of "spoiler" is a snowflake, you guys could just be respectful of the other people here and keep leaks like this a bit more under wraps. -

The fact that the character appears in the series is a spoiler. As you yourself said, she has nothing to do with what we've seen of the show so far. Ergo, new and unexpected, and spoilery. -

The line is aimed at AFOLs, which in LEGO's eyes are primarily interested in OT merchandise. I suspect if they sell well, there will be helmets from the other two trilogies and the anthology series mixed into future waves. And bear in mind there are more potential trooper helmets than named character helmets (at least if they stick to villain helmets, which is what the press release seems to indicate), so I would not expect to see more than one named helmet per wave. -
Three of those would be large flagship sets ($150+) which makes them pretty unlikely at this point, now that TLJ and ROS have left theaters. (We get maybe one of these a year, this year's being the AT-AT in August. So at most we might get one of these in the next few years, if that. There are quite a few TIE vehicles on shelves already, and two of the more recent TIEs are pretty similar to the Whisper, which makes it less likely as well.
-
I think folks might be being a teensy bit harsh on the OP. There are valid (to some, anyway) criticisms of the helmets... they are very studdy after all... Could LEGO have made smoother, larger versions for more like $90-100? Yes, but then they'd probably sell half as many, or eat into sales of other large sets. Personally I don't mind them, and think they're a good value for the money (if you're hung up on price per part, $60 for 600-650 parts is very good these days), and they look pretty good for the size. But they're clearly not for everyone. (Which is why I wish we got these in addition to a regular wave, rather than in place of it... I think people would be more receptive to these if there had been 6 or so system sets offered alongside them.)

For the last three years, the thing that got the most discussion is the thing that actually ended up being released. Happened with the Falcon, Cloud City, Y-Wing, Snowspeeder, Star Destroyer, etc. Take that for whatever it's worth.... a living example of "where there's smoke, there's fire." -

LOL While I generally agree with the rest of your post, this is not accurate. 2018 had three system scale waves (January, April, August) plus various exclusives, advent, D2Cs, etc.. On the other hand, 2020 is on track to have two system scale waves (January, August) plus exclusives, advent, D2Cs, etc. So, unless there is some kind of "Winter Surprise", we will be down 6-8 system sets versus the last five years or so.
