Haldor flipped himself up from the floor and stood defensively. "Aye, my thanks for the help Cronk, would hate to fall here just where I am needed most. Dyric, you need a hand there?" The nord walked slowly back towards the foes, just as they closed in around his ally. He prepared to toss a potion to his friend in the event of Cronk's failure, but kept himself prepared to attack Pongcanis D if the need be. Back row at all times.

Really liking Eric's new costume, nice and simple.
-
Wow, I had totally forgotten about that old Jinn I had malingering in my inventory. It is one of Bluehood's magical summoning lamps from Quest #28, and it could just save us here! Haldor will still be pretty pissed at Arthur running off however, compulsory or not.
-
Nice to see you back, Khorne! In other news, Arthur is allowed to return to the battle, isn't he? We need him right now.
-
I'm really sad to see Triad go, I was hoping to be able to see more of her before the end. I hearby dedicate the rest of the quest to Bal and Triad's memory! And I'm guessing that the big bastard Pongcanis was Vonnetate? I hope so, Haldor would like very much to remove his head and mount it upon the wall. And no, Arthur cannot steal the attention for that also. I might even have to Bricklink that Ventress head just so I can create a memorial. Quiet you! Beards are cool!
-
No, Triad, no!
-
"We are on the offensive, let us not slow up now! Wait, but where is the Sorceror? He goes now, when we are fighting for our lives and the lives of this city. I do hope that he will come back. Dyric, I feel that you have need of some replenishing? Here, take this." Haldor tosses a grand potion over to Dyric, which he then uncorks and drinks in one. But as the potion left his hand, the nord felt a pang of sadness strike his heart, as though a great friend had passed away...
-
"A very dire situation we find ourselves in indeed, we had better get to work. With me, comrades!" Haldor leads a cautious advance toward the foes amassing in front of him, and takes a long swing with his axe at Pongcanis Archer C once he draws near. Back row.
-
"I do not like that Apprentice Atramor intends to go alone for his quest, there is much danger in this, and a slim chance of success. But everything possible must be done if we are to avert the rising of Zoot upon this city. If you are to fall in battle, comrade, I will be sure to cry at your funeral." Haldor claps Atramor on the back, well knowing that this is likely to be the last time that he sees him. The nord turns his gaze to the rest of the group. "So I am to go to the Guffington mansion with this group? Good, these are solid people, they will surely fight to the last breath. We must war for this spire no matter the cost, the fate of many mortals rest upon our shoulders." The shaman slowly looked up into the blackening sky. "And so it begins..."

Aww, you've burst my bubble Zepher.
-
I am so hyped about the Court of Demons right now, I want to get as much out of Master of Loathing Haldor as I can! Expect an updated costume tommorrow.
-
Haldor managed to steady himself as an intense pain shot through his body. It felt as though his heart had been torn out and all feeling removed. Despite his pledges to remain himself whatever the cost, the nord felt different. There was very little emotion left inside, mostly a hateful apathy, but also a deep anger and loathing. His once blue eyes now burned red, and his skin had become a sickly pale colour. "I feel welcome in the Court of Demons, my brothers and sisters, for the quest that lies ahead. I am prepared to go where it is that we must, I do not fear what we may face there. This crypt of the Court will prove most enlightening, and I hold truth in my heart that Zane will lead us truthfully. Lead on, brother, there is much that we must do."
-
Haldor stepped forward. "If this is the only way that this can be done, if this the only option..." He sighed. "I swear my life to the Court of Demons. You see, Arthur, you are wrong. I am not rolling out the red carpet for Wren and Zoot's arrival, this is what must be done. Even under the court, I will still hold myself and my senses, I will not allow such a thing to happen despite any temporary alliegence. And you Arthur, do not try to threaten the Master, he quite evidently holds power beyond all of your wildest dreams, you'd do well not to piss him off during the transformation. May we all be spurred on by Thoric's will, to end this as quickly as possible."
-
Haldor silently whispered back. "Just something I learnt back home, they used something similar in the scriptures that I used to read. The Regret says that 'when the dark lady comes for us, we must let her take us'. Whatever the hell that means. I'll let you know if anything comes up of interest."
-
Haldor stepped forward after gathering his thoughts for a moment. Speaking purposefully, he uttered: "J bn qsfqbsfe gps xibufwfs zpv xjmm uispx bu nf, Nbtufs pg Sfhsfu, xf xjmm tff kvtu ipx xfmm zpv dbo qmbz. Bring it on, whatever you are."
-
...And solved! Easy as pie, back in the day we used to crack vertically and horizontally transposed Trifid ciphers before our morning cup of tea.
-
Well, now Haldor has revealed his truth, Arthur could always have something to say about that.
-
"Do not take me for a fool, Grey Wizard, because I do not pour my heart into the ears of my friends does not mean that I can only see things in the blunt way that they appear. You judge too much from what you can see on the surface. I have many things to say, but most I do not share, it is my way; I put on this act because it suits me. You did not know me before, I have changed, but on the inside I remain the same. I was much like Arthur, in many ways, irrational, weak, but that did not aid me in where I needed to go. I realise that you may not like this impression that I give, but it is just that, an act; it grants me respect from my friends and fear from my enemies. You see how I look, and when people see this, they expect something of me, I am just showing them what they are ready to hear. Sometimes I hate myself for this, I long to be myself, yet Haldor is a soft-minded man. Of course, I have much to regret, much indeed, but those are things best kept for my mind. Things I have not shared with even my closest friends, but it is still there, inside. I have never shared this with you before, Wizard, because I did not trust you to understand. Congratulations, you've cracked the shell."
-
"Alas, I have no reason to join in this little shuffle that's going on, unless anyone wants to come over and help themselves to my equipment for whatever reason. Oh, and Dyric, maybe you'd like that 33 gold that I owe you back while we're at it." Haldor tosses some gold in the general direction of his friend and continues walking. "Hey Atramor, how go things? The wizard tells that we are off to face some Master of Regret, what do you feel about this? I know I've no reason to be afraid, there is very little that I regret at all in this world." The nord put on a brave face, but he knew that what he had said wasn't true; there were many things that he would have undone, given the chance.
-
I stated this I first joined Heroica, but it can't hurt to say it again. Haldor Skovgaard is a combination of actual Norse names, and have a true meaning. Haldor, as Khorne so expertly deduced, is a reference to the god Thor, with the name roughly meaning 'Thor's rock'. Skovgaard is a fairly common Norwegian surname, dating back to the dark ages. it means 'House/farm by the woods'. I chose them both because I liked the sound of them, and the best name for a fictional Norse character would be one that stems from some real-life Norse names.
-
Haldor blinked at the new developments. "Right you are Cronk, I'll help all you battered souls before you drop dead on us. How fared you conflicts, friends? Judging by this bleeding demonic prince all strewn accross the floor, I'd say you carried some success. This Zane weasled his way into being spared on account of showing us something of interest, so we had better soon be off to face this thing." The nord held back to heal the entire party and repair Zander at the cost of how many ether that costs. "Lead on, Zane."

Sorry if I don't seem particularly active in Quest #53, comrades, I just can't think of anything to say...

Total Recall. The original Arnie version, obviously, as no re-make can ever be as good as a classic like this. I really enjoyed it, the story was well-written, with plenty of good action and nice graphics. I absolutely loved the JohnnyCab! And no, I have no intention of watching the new version. I find the lack of Shwarzanegger disturbing.
