Are LEGO Trains Classed as "Real" Model Trains?
Pingles replied to Paul B Technic's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I can see it from the perspective of someone spending a lot of money to make a realistic, miniature world. Especially if they have an image in their head of the Lego Police Station they saw at a toy store. To be clear, I am here because I love the challenge of MAKING a train set, especially the train itself. I don't think that is a part of many train enthusiasts love for the hobby/ -
LEGO´s anti-war policy: A little hypocrite?
Pingles replied to Paulski's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I grew up with 12" GIJoes and made my own Lego tanks when I was a kid. But I support Lego's decision. I had a friend a long time ago who graduated from a University with honors and was offered a job with a big Defense manufacturer for tons of dough but turned it down because he didn't want to make a career of making weapons. Silly? Misguided? Maybe. But I respect that decision. And I respect Lego's decision, silly or not. -
Astonishing, creative work! It's funny how "pretty" something so clinical, engineered and utilitarian can be.

Thanks for the pics! Honestly, every time I hear about one of these I wish I could go! Pics really help!

What accessories would you like most to be introduced?
Pingles replied to Alexgri's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Forgive me for the silly question but what do you mean by accessory? -
Ugh. Thanks. That's exactly why I asked. Noticed there was no straight track in that set.

Hi all, Was surprised to see the Joker Funhouse http://shop.lego.com/en-US/The-Dynamic-Duo-Funhouse-Escape-6857 at the Lego store. Is this the first time Lego has released narrow gauge rails? I searched Bricklink but didn't see any.

It would just take about 1600 battery packs. Reminds me of the real rockets where most of the fuel is used to lift the fuel!
-
Whew! I thought this thread was about a collection of empty numbered bags from sets.

Thanks for the instructions. In a time when people are selling other peoples instructions it's refreshing to see someone willing to share their own for free.

The look on his face is perfect. "I'll go on my diet after the raid, I promise!"

That would be a fun forum contest. The most spectacular Lego Plane crash video. - No special effects - Single impact - Must be in flight when it impacts The prize? Replacements for damaged bricks.

This work haunts me. What a beautiful creation. I am considering a big project and something like this inspires me to take the time and do something truly outstanding. Honestly, that is just breathtaking.

The seat of the swing is a smooth plate so the figure cannot stick to it but the hands DO grab the "chains" of the swing so you can go bonkers swinging them until they are screaming for help. As the father of a 3-year-old daughter the set is very nice but not particularly pre-school friendly (certainly i am stretching the lower age limit so take all of my criticisms below with a grain of salt). The lawn plates are not fixed to the house. There are three lawn plates and inexplicably TWO of them are connected with the other floating. I attached plates beneath and the set "plays" much better. Perhaps this was done to make the footprint smaller on such a large structure, I don't know. But it was a bit of a pain for my daughter so I connected them. The chairs are all a precarious balance situation. The characters like to slide off unless you can find a good angle for their waist and even then they do not sit well. I will be revisiting them to see what I can do to make that friendlier. As with any modular building some of the spaces are pretty tight. They have placed many small features deep inside instead of at the edge so young hands seem to have trouble using the blender, bathroom sink, etc. My daughter LOVES the set and there's a lot of pretending that is gonna be happening there. I am excited for her. Overall it is fantastic but I do wish they would rearrange things to make the items with the most play value towards the edge of the rooms.

Geez, that is phenomenal. Congratulations on finding a Lego-friendly wife!

Was amazed by the volume of Lego in the two bags. Pepsi can used for scale :) Stunning. Wish I had grabbed more bags.

$7.99 a bag at the Valley Fair, CA store. About 30 bags there. Probably five people inspecting them. :) I grabbed two at random just for kicks.

Looking forward to buying a bunch tomorrow. These sets will be for my 3 year old girl who plays with Lego every day so I will report back how well she relates to this new theme.

A friend of mine made a lot of money in the stock market, even as it was falling. He spent WAY more time researching that stuff than I ever would and loved every minute of it. If it's something you enjoy just go for it. If you enjoy playing the markets with Lego, stocks, comics, whatever, just do it. As long as you're not repackaging fake Lego or screwing people over with vague descriptions then you're fine. You're providing a service and they will pay what they think is fair. No harm, no foul.

Free Lego 4184 Black Pearl Set to Family with Kid(s)
Pingles replied to DLuders's topic in General LEGO Discussion
What a wonderful thing to do! Maybe next year we can do something like this as a group. Perhaps even early enough so the Winners could have them home for Christmas morning. I'm overwhelmed by your generosity! Good for you! -
Yes and No. We bought my 3-year old daughter a bunch of Duplo a few years ago that she has no interest in whatsoever. However, she goes nuts for "Daddy's Lego" and can't get enough. As a result a bunch of my collection is on my Office floor where we both play with it. There are a multitude of "Oh no!"s when she plays as she destroys model after model with rough play. It's gotten much better but they're just not designed for her age so it's inevitable. I have a bunch of sets kept out of reach and others I take out just when I can supervise strictly. Others (like the Fire Station) I have radically modified for her play, which works great. I have hinges on the roofs of many vehicles so she can send everyone for a tour on the bus or a ride in a boat. I love it.

Tutorial: Downloading LEGO set instructions from LEGO's website
Pingles replied to Big Cam's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I only keep the pdfs. I do not keep paper copies. Every set I buy I copy the pdfs and back them up. -
Decided to see if Amazon had it and they had dropped the price! Not quite Black Friday but $25 off! Even qualifies for Amazon Prime.

*sigh* Just got an email that my order has been cancelled for Imperial Flagship. I guess that's it. *weep*

Glad I got the Emerald Night. I still find it the most beautiful of the Lego engines. Very elegant.
