Beautiful design and I will give a dissenting opinion and say that I am very attracted to the stark coloring.

Exactly what I popped in here to write. My use of it always includes heavy sighing. I hate how it detracts from the railed look. It REALLY stands out. But when I was setting up my Christmas Tree layout I used it throughout. It's effective.

Just bought the X-Wing but I'm waiting until March to buy the Tie Fighter so I can get the poster. I can't believe I wrote that. I'm 46 years old. Excited about a Star Wars Lego poster.

Decided to search for the biggest Lego Death Star so far but most seem about the same size, a few feet across (including the one in the banner image on the forum). They must have made bigger ones for trade shows... Haven't they?

I agree with a commenter that we need a Kickstarter for this.

Every once in a while I'll see a pic and wonder if I could make an MOC that does the picture justice. http://imgur.com/ZZnpU Me? Right now? Probably not. Maybe one of you can.

Just noticed that the Level Crossing is now $5 off on LegoShop. http://shop.lego.com/en-US/Level-Crossing-7936 Don't usually discount unless it's a discontinued item, do they?

Wonderful, clever work! I made some ONE planes a while back and thoroughly enjoyed the minimalist part of the challenge. Now, those trains... about the curved tracks...

Brickvention 2012: A Con-goers perspective
Pingles replied to Raytracer's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
Thanks for the write-up. For someone like myself who has never seen a Lego show these posts are such a wonderful taste. Lego is great. But to see groups of people enjoying Lego is a whole other ball game. Awesome! -
Yearly Calender for Lego Events
Pingles replied to Superkalle's topic in LEGO Events and User Groups
I am hoping to attend the third annual Bricks by the Bay in Santa Clara, CA. March 16-18, 2012 http://www.bricksbythebay.com/ EDIT: Sorry, just saw that it IS on the list, just listed in April. -
Wow. So overwhelmed by the quantity and quality of the entries. Stunning! 8. cava - 2 10. Priovit70 - 1 21. SI-mocs - 2

Ha, I agree with them! Love the Steam trains. I suppose they don't fit a City layout as well as a modern train does. But I just love that Steam era. I can't seem to design anything modern for MOC. That post-Industrial Revolution era has a pretty good grip on me.

I have been planning a custom Steam Engine and this set may be a great starting point.

Yes. I think if you could compare Maersk train numbers to a similarly priced Star Wars or Toy Story set you'd probably be left wondering why they bother with trains at all. Thank goodness they do.

Returned from my Dark Ages last year and have been doing Trains (for me) and Town (for my daughter) but bought my first-ever Star Wars Lego set last week, the new X-Wing. Loved the build. Now it NEEDS a Tie Fighter to sit next to it. That's likely next.

Ugh... Didn't read about it until too late. Sorry I missed the event. My daughter would have flipped out.

Could this be a new "golden age" of LEGO train?
Pingles replied to DaddyDeuce's topic in LEGO Train Tech
This is my first age of any kind in Lego Trains, having just finished up a 20+ year dark age. I must say that I am overwhelmed by options. Until I have room for a layout my closet is filled with trains and track. These are exciting times for me. -
I suppose "themed" trains sell well with kids. Seems like we get a pretty rotten ratio of serious to themed, though. Instant regret edit: I understand that Toy Story probably sold 1,000 times more than Emerald Night.

Man, I suggest that everyone do this at least once. I had a great time packing my Holiday box. My wife just let me hammer away at it forever and I had so much fun.

Seems like they could have upped the scale a bit (each is miniaturized it seems) and made them out of pieces.

I posted a while back about picking up a few "Friends" sets for my daughter. She is three (I know, way under the range) but has a passion for regular Lego (no interest in Duplo) and plays every day with "Daddy's Lego" which is strewn across my office floor. I have been kind of surprised at how little interest she has in the Friends sets. She still goes back to the Medieval Market houses quite a bit and plays with the regular minifigs in them. But does not return to Olivia's House or Inventor's Workshop. She originally flipped out over the Kitchen utensils and Tools from those sets but now they sit on one side of the room untouched. I still plan on trying the Treehouse and maybe the Pet set but I think so far her reaction is not what I anticipated.

What's a Better Engine, Red or Yellow Cargo?
Pingles replied to Paul B Technic's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Look what you did. I bought the Yellow set long ago and had no interest in the Red. But seeing them like that I can't help but marvel at how nice an engine the Red is. *sigh* I am on a self-imposed Lego embargo (too many unbuilt sets piled up in the closet) but that Red train is calling to me... -
For those who get the Nat Geo channel.

FORGOT TO SET DVR! CURSES! Hopefully they repeat it. -
Mom & Pop stores - higher prices worth it?
Pingles replied to gratefulnat's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I am in a much different financial place than I have ever been in my life. In the past I just couldn't justify higher prices for ANY reason. No ifs' ands, or buts. I needed to save money. Now that my family is in a MUCH better financial situation I, too, have been trying to "spread" the wealth to people that I think deserve it. I have also found myself passing up VERY good deals because I did not care for the source of the deal. We have a local Learning store and I try to focus on them for my purchases. I still have to hit Target or ToysRUs for the dumb-fun toys, :)
