  1. I like the idea of a stylized reproduction. In other words a Legoland version of your house instead of a scale copy. I may give this a shot.
  2. I wonder how long until they re-release straight track. I am hoping they realize that while Flex-track may indeed have its uses it is no substitute, either in functionality or apperance, for straight track.
  3. These responses have been fascinating reading. Great perspective. My dark age was 30+ years so I think I was never "serious" enough to have a preference. I loved it when I was a pre-teen and I love it now.
  4. Thanks for that! Very informative!
  5. *Insert LAW & Order "Dun dun"*
  6. Was so tempted last time I was there just to do one for fun but felt guilty since I have a giant case of Legos waiting for an MOC project at home. Promised myself I'll start a project first and THEN go buy a cup for fun so maybe I can fill in some gaps.
  7. I wonder what MOC he was working on.
  8. Ugh. My Daughter keeps choosing the wrong Properties to fall in love with. First it was Yo Gabba Gabba: Megablocks. We actually bought a set and it was horrific. The characters were great but the block quality is terrible. We retired those blocks to being part of a Humpty Dumpty wall and it keeps collapsing because so many of the bricks just won't hold a connection. I have tried to ferret them out to outlying positions but still the structure won't hold up to use. Humpty Dumpty is supposed to fall... NOT THE WALL! I lucked out and bought a Thomas Duplo set last year but was heartbroken to see MegaBlocks got the license since. And now: Mickey Mouse Clubhouse is her thing. In the toystore she went crazy for the MegaBlocks box but I lucked out when she decided on some wooden Thomas toys later. PLEASE LEGO: Start upping your bids on the Licenses. THINK OF THE CHILDREN!
  9. Some MOCs seem to be so much more ALIVE than others. Great job having your MOC tell stories. Fantastic work.
  10. I'd never argue that the new track isn't more convenient but I LOVED those old single rails. There was something SO Lego about those rails. You had to MAKE track out of rails.
  11. It's no fun being old, but it's nice to make Legos enough of a priority in life that they stay made up. Still not old enough that I can keep a train layout up permanently...but we are getting there. :)
  12. Thanks for the pics. Although we have a Legoland in our state its too close to Disneyland for us to escape Walt Disneys tractor beam. Going to be a few years before I can talk my family into a Lego visit.
  13. I keep quiet about it. It's such a pain to have to explain why. Its all very logical and most of the points have been detailed in this thread I just hate having to go through the explanation. If they enter my house they'll see my Emerald Night pretty quickly, anyhow. Most folks can't believe it's Lego until I open the case it's in.
  14. You're one step ahead of me. I've started collecting the trains, own a bit of track but have not set up a layout yet. I have a two year old who loves the Duplo trains (I went bonkers and bought so much track...) but she is not quite ready to hold a regular Lego train without it crumbling in her hands. I can't wait until she's old enough to enjoy the trains as much as I do.
  15. The more the better! Especially if they have their own pics! And I think that Emerald Night deserves to be on the tracks!
  16. I'm afraid I've gone the non-sentimental route. I've gone digital. PDFs of instructions only. SACRILEGE!
  17. Interesting. That is true for my 2-1/2 yearvold daughter as well. No interest in the powered Duplo train but will push engines and cars all day. I play with the powered engine and she walks over and removes it from the tracks. :)
  18. What a thrill to know kids (and adults) are going bonkers looking at your collection. It is tough to balance between HEY STAY BACK OVER THERE AND DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING YOU JERKS and WAIT WHERE IS THE CABOOSE. The only thing I've seen come close was a large-scale model that included about three feet of flat terrain at the front.
  19. My only complaint is when companies ship their manufacturing to "cheaper" areas when they are making record profits. In 2003-2005 Lego was suffering from some pretty big losses. That is likely when they made decisions regarding "offshore" manufacturing. I hope now that they are experiencing large profits they can do a little more quality control work to keep their outstanding quality reputation intact. Personally, I continue to be stunned by the engineering, packaging and model quality of Lego products.
  20. Enjoy your time here! We've got beautiful weather right now!
  21. I am probably a year away from actually building my backyard layout but am definitely interested in hearing about people's experiences with outdoor tracks. I have a nice expanse to work with and my yard is lined on one side with a chainlink fence along a river walkway, so I hope to make it elaborate enough to catch people's eyes as they walk. Right now I am planning on standard Lego PF track but if it does not survive the elements well then I will start planning around that. I live in Santa Cruz, CA (very few freezes, very few 85+ days) and my backyard receives a great deal of sunshine so sun-wear is an issue.
  22. Mine arrived yesterday. :) But I haven't opened it. I work weekends so the box is there to taunt me until Monday.
  23. Here's all you need: MOC stands for My Own Creation and describes a Lego object(s) designed by an individual That was the only one I had to Google. :)
  24. Mega got my daughters favorite, Yo Gabba Gabba so we grabbed a box. It was heartbreaking. The figures were well-done but those bricks! INFURIATING!!! Having 90% of your pieces fit right may sound okay but everything we build collapses because of a few weak links. Never again.
  25. It was a bunch of little sets and a ton of pieces that I have NO IDEA where they may have come from. At first I thought the animal-head people were not really Lego but a quick Google search showed me otherwise. Still, was a lot of fun to sift through and I am excited to have so many new pieces to work with! It took SEVEN resizes to make this image less than 100K :D
