  1. Thank you :) yep, that's the one, not the best episode by any means but it gave us the yellow TIE so it's not all bad ;) Sounds good :D I have set 75150 too, I destroyed the A-wing but Vader's TIE is still alive. I must say they are fun to recreate the trench scene together ;) Hmmm, that's strange, I wonder if its just a new mould of an existing piece that its having trouble with? The only other thing it could be is the transparent round viewport, I'm not certain its actually available in the colour it is on the file. could be worth a look :) Other than that... I have no idea I'm afraid :/ Gray_Mouser's suggestion of looking on rebrickable might be worth a try too. I'm not too familiar with that site (as I said above) but it seems to be quite a useful resource :)
  2. I'm super excited to see your version! :D I hope the model will be worth the wait. I don't think it will matter if some parts aren't the 'right' colours, so long as its still predominantly grey it should look okay ;)
  3. No problem, It didn't take as long as I'd thought, compared to my X-wing the construction is fairly straight forward, especially as the wings can just be copied and rotated ;) No pressure on those instructions, I'm sure people will find it useful but I personally feel an LDD file provides enough information :). For something like an UCS AT-AT instructions would defiantly be needed in addition to the file, but for a small fighter, predominantly made from layering plates, I don't feel its necessary IMO :) Thank you! Can't tell you how many times I re-did the cockpit before I was happy, glad you like it :D
  4. Thanks for letting me know :) and thank you for your kind words :D No problem :) Glad I could help! yeah, that's the worst bit! Thanks for that info, as I say I might have a go at some point. It seems fairly straight forward apart form the instructions :/ because of that, if I do end up using rebrickable, it will be a while off I'm afraid, so I hope LXF file will be good enough for now :)
  5. Thank you so much, really means a lot to hear someone is so enthusiastic about recreating my model :) I'm afraid I'm unfamiliar with rebrickable, I've taken a look at the website and set up an account though, so maybe someday I'll upload my moc's on there. For now though, I've made an LDD model of the whole fighter, hopefully that and my pictures will provide enough of a parts list to be able to make it :) Good luck, i'd love to see it if you do manage to build it :D I had trouble with the solar panels so you'll have to use a bit of imagination there ;) I tried to make sure that all the parts needed are in the file but do let me know if you spot anything that's missing! :D Thanks!, its probably down to its very limited appearance in the show, I hope it pops up again though :)
  6. I did wonder if you knew about it only being available in white, its the sort of part that I feel is likely to be made in white eventually though, we'll see :) However, I now wonder what a purple themed X-wing would look like!, I seem to remember seeing one in a comic book somewhere... Well sometimes I fear it is unavoidable, but with discussions such as the one we're having, compromises can sometimes just be a temporary solution while someone thinks of something better :) I have to say I think 20430 + turbines is the best option so far (even if I do say so myself) but who knows, there's undoubtedly more than one way to achieve 4x4 engines :)
  7. Wonderful build! Although I must confess the first thing that popped into my head was 'why has that TIE got skies?' :D. But than was only from my first glance, when viewing the pictures properly, it became clear you've got yourself a very cool and unique looking TIE variant. I really like the mixture of grill tiles and grooved bricks for the solar cells, really does look the part!
  8. Thank you! I think someone else answered your question but I will too ;) when I build models (at least ones of this size) I tend not to be too concerned by the scale of things because it varies drastically depending on what source material you look at. I therefore just try to make it look right, which seems to work well enough :) Thanks!, I don't normally do LDD so enjoy it while it lasts ;D Thank you, I haven't seen many people do rear viewports ether, so I'm quite pleased with the result :) I hadn't realised there was a difference in wing size form the OT ones to the First Order ones, that's interesting, thanks for sharing :) Thanks! yeah, its kind of funny looking, but that's just the reason I like it :D
  9. Ah I see, I got confused about which parts you were intending to use. Your solution sounds promising :) I think my solution will indeed be too long but maybe with the rest of the ship around it will look better?...we'll see I guess. I didn't even know part 24593 existed, or at least I forgot it existed, it seems (so far) its only available in... purple :D Until its available in white I think I'll steer clear of that solution ;) I look forward to more updates form you though :D About the canopy, seems to be a reasonable compromise to get a more accurate flat top.
  10. Thanks, it is a strange design but I like it too :D Thanks! yeah, getting the grey struts on the inside was a real challenge but I'm so glad I able to, makes it look less toy-like IMO :) Wasn't too sure what to call the rear transparent section, I suppose viewport is a more accurate description ;) I think I said on Flickr I spent ages coming up with a solution for the rear, glad you like it. I did a rough part count and is approximately 470 pieces. Your welcome, glad you'll find it useful :) yep, sure is! Yeah, making the hatch lie flat had been an issue, quite pleased it now does though :D Regarding the pilots position, I think its as good as it will be, he already sits on the lower corner plates. Without seriously weakening the structure or aesthetics, I doubt much more can be done to make the fig sit in a more appropriate position. I'm happy whatever you decide. Just the fact that you've taken the time to try and build a digital version is praise enough for me :D Thank you!
  11. These TIEs have already been up on Flickr for a little while but I thought I should put them up here too. Not a lot to say really, we all know what a TIE looks like after all. This is my version, it (comfortably) fits a fig, has an opening top hatch and even the rear window seen extensively on ILM models and in the Rebels TV show. It's also surprisingly sturdy, I made sure the cockpit was built for strength (less for looks as you may tell form the amount of studs) and in that it can keep up with my X-wing's tight manoeuvres in a hand-held dogfight :D TIE fighter (1) by Inthert, on Flickr TIE Fighter (cockpit) by Inthert, on Flickr I've made an LXF file for the cockpit if anyone's interested: TIE Cockpit.lxf (I had added this to my X-wing topic but its obviously more appropriate here ;) EDIT: I've competed the full TIE in LDD as requested. Enjoy!: TIE (complete).lxf UPDATE: I've been informed there may be some pieces missing in the from of 4 2x1 grey plates (used to close the hexagons on the insides of the wings) so just keep that in mind when using the file ;) I also noticed that some parts were omitted from the first file so I decided to re-try the cockpit, seems to be okay in the complete TIE file just so you know. I couldn't just have one imperial ship around to blow my X-wing and Falcon to bits so I made two! This a mining guild TIE as seen in Star Wars Rebels, its a fairly simple modification on my imperial tie, just a few colour changes and what not but it does the job ;) Mining Guild TIE fighter (1) by Inthert, on Flickr Let me know what you think, I'm sure they're far from perfect so any suggestions will be welcome :)
  12. Yeah, I'm quite enjoying seeing how much engine detail I can get in under the 2x4x4 cylinder piece :D hopefully it'll look the part, if I decide to modify my physical X-wing. Talking of cylinder pieces, I'm not sure which ones you think I'm talking about? :\ I'm using part 6259, a half cylinder piece. I only ask because two of them certainly aren't shorter than the one your using, I think there might have been a misunderstanding here :) Yes, I did say I preferred ones. Although I think I also said I might change my mind some day (I didn't expect 'some day' to be two moths later though! :P). I don't mind you posting your ideas at all! :D Its really interesting to see people pick up on areas of my model that could be better and improve it and then be happy to discuss it afterwards. So keep it up ;) Thanks, I had a lot of fun throwing together some droids and machinery, glad you like it! The rear engine section was hastily made too, I just grabbed the bricks that were nearest. I'm not completely sold on the change in colour ether. Although I do like shape of the barrel and the resemblance it bares to the X-wings thrusters. It's just a shame (as you said) that that part is crazy expensive in light grey :( Ah I see, well the pipes look good in any case :D. It is a pity the grey outline part had to be taken out though, I don't know about LDD but in the physical model that detail does complete the look of the canopy IMO :) No problem about the TIE, a number of people were curious about the interior so I was more than happy to take those :) EDIT: I've now made a TIE fighter topic, so we can discuss it there if you wish :D : http://www.eurobrick...opic=138913&hl= TIE Cockpit.lxf
  13. That's a real compliment. Thank you! Firstly, great cockpit MOD! The tubes on the interior was something I really wanted to include but could think of a good way of doing it, you seem to have achieved them and the flat top really well on both versions :) I think its just a case of which one you like more. And secondly: 4 wide engines, what a coincidence! I myself was wondering about using them for a few weeks, guess you beat me to uploading an idea though ;) Here's what I have so far: 4 wide engines?! by Inthert, on Flickr It's little more than an idea at the moment but I'll be interested to know what you (and anyone else!) thinks. EDIT: Be sure to check out the description on Flickr too, I went into more detail there than I did here :) But back to your WIP solution, it looks good so far, stability will defiantly be a problem as it stands, but you seem to be ready to modify it so that's not a real issue :) I think using the shorter half cylinder part (as I have/will do) would be the better option, if you look at 'real' x wings, the main engine tube doesn't run the whole length of the wing, so a stubbier look is needed IMO. But as for a viable connection to the rest of the wing, I'm not so sure, that's something I need to pin down on my own idea! however, if I think of anything I'll let you know :D As I say, yours looks great so far!
  14. Thanks, I went back and forth with the greeble section, I ended up going with this soloution because it seemed to line up with R2 just a little better IMO ;) Yep finally on Eurobricks :D
  15. Thanks for updating it. :) Yeah, its time consuming more than anything else, to get each step photographed correctly and to get a coherent order of steps takes time. But its all worth it when people such as yourself and blbills take the time to recreate it :D So maybe you'll be seeing some TIE fighter ones ;) Probably the best way to go with the falcon, scratch-building a model of that size and with the part density would get expensive very quickly :/ Flat silver is a good call, I forget how similar the two colours can look when integrated together. Can't wait to see a grey version, its something I'm hoping to do my self one day, that and a reconnaissance T-65 :) I hope my model will be worth the wait, just enjoy your vacation! :D
  16. I've added some notes to the appropriate steps on my Flickr instructions, hopefully anyone else making it won't be confused. Thanks for letting me know :) Parts 3937 and 6134 are indeed essential for the stability of the nose, I wonder if its worth editing your file so those parts just sit out side the model (just as you did with a few other parts that didn't fit for whatever reason) at least then they would be included in a parts list. :) EDIT: Just realised you said you would do that, ignore the above sentence. Ah yes, the small storage compartment behind the seat! I was quite pleased with that detail myself ;) I deliberately didn't take any pictures of that area so that anyone recreating my model would have that detail as a surprise :D Jerac's version is indeed a sight to behold, its just a shame it can't fit a fig, seems perfect otherwise. I think mine looks more Lego-like (if that makes sense) so I guess it depends what look you want :) l wasn't planning on posting full blown instructions for my TIE fighter, but some basic breakdown shots might be possible (in a similar way to how I did the engines on the T-70) if that's okay? The falcon on the other hand, I seriously doubt I'll do any kind of breakdown shots of that (except from small areas like the cockpit I've already done). So I guess even less temptation there :P In any case, it sounds like you'll have a nice display by the end of all this! Thank you so much! Yes his one was the one to beat, you saying mine is superior really does mean a lot ;D
  17. Oh yes, I forgot about sets like that, I tend not to buy them in favour of similarly priced sets with actual ships in. But now you mention it they are pretty much what I described ;) I guess battle packs are predominantly used as cheap army builders so it makes scene to have only one side per set. I agree with you about the weapons though, I like Calanon's idea of having both types in one set as opposed to reserving realism for the larger sets.
  18. I didn't no, but that's completely down to me not owning the set as opposed to not wanting to try it :). However, I doubt it would work without serious modification, seeing as that piece is 4 studs wide and my fuselage design only 3 studs wide at the most ;)
  19. Thank you blbills! ;) Thanks for uploading your file too, anyone else recreating it now should have more than enough material! About the T-70 (yes your right it should go in another thread, I'm planning on putting it up soon but for now..) I've noticed there's a few parts that's are not available in light grey most importantly: the mud guard pieces for the rear engines. here's a link to the relevant Flickr page: If your close to making the physical T-65 model, some of the comments I made on this picture might be of help: In any case, I'm looking forward to seeing the physical T-65 and the Digital T-70, would you mind posting pictures of them on here when they're done? :)
  20. Gray_Mouser, Thanks for uploading that file (seeing as its technically your file, I wouldn't have minded at all if you had uploaded it earlier ;). I'm sure many people attempting to recreate the model will appreciate the parts list created along with it :). You have my respect for persevering with the construction of this, especially as you said you haven't used Lego for so long and that you leant how to use LDD along the way AND, on top of that you had to deal with my instructions ;) As such I can understand why you might be tired of this by now! I encountered the same problem of gaps when I tried using hinged bricks, I now wonder if there is a suitable solution using 3x3 engines... seems to be whatever option, there's a compromise somewhere. Well, even if it wasn't intentional, I think the new colours look great :D, as I've found by looking at photos of the studio models and in conversations with other builders, the X-wings were very colourful (at least until they encountered TIE fighters ;P). I know I've said it before but thank you! I'm in no doubt my design isn't perfect so 'amazing' is more than enough for me ;)
  21. Grey_Mouser, I meant to ask that too - they would be both interesting and useful to see ;D ScottishDave, you make some good, fair points and I agree with most of them ;). My canopy is defiantly off and I think Grey_Mouser's modification does a good job of getting the subtle change in angle from the nose to the canopy. Regarding the engines and slopes, I think to have two rows of cheese slopes runs the risk of looking a little 'roof like', but as you say it would be a quick solve so I guess it would be okay ;). At one time I used a method similar to picardsbricks design, but the height of this design also seemed odd next to the engines. In the end I went with those large sloped pieces because they provided a reasonable (but certainly not perfect) representation of that area and allowed for the possibility of interior greebling too. Personally I think most problems with that area comes back to the engine size. I can see that 3x3 engines are too small, but equally, I feel 4x4 are a little too large (For my current design at least, with some modification they could work). If your planning on using dmaclego's design for that area I'm assuming your going to go with 4x4 engines? As I don't see his design being achievable with 3x3s...
  22. Looks great! I'm quite impressed how close you got it using LDD, as I say when I had a go, I had no end of trouble getting the angles right. you seem to have achieved them just about perfectly! I also like your choice of colours (I think that's bright red?) it does seem to look better than dark red and the yellow touches really look the part! The canopy was something I was never quite satisfied with... I had wanted to get the flat top area in but I was never able to come up with a solution that allows the canopy to open easily. I quite like how you've done it though. I might have to have a play around now and see how your solution looks in real life ;) Someone had pointed out to me the angled areas next to the wings look odd, and I agree! ;). I like your use of those (relatively) new wedge plates instead of the 2x3s I had, they seem in far better proportion to 3x3 engines. Can I suggest though, that you now shorten the wings by 1 stud? I just feel with the addition of the better slope, they now look a tad too long. but then again, that may just be down to seeing the two variations right next to each other, perhaps apart, and from different views, the length looks better? I'd also like to say thank you (again) for wanting to (and succeeding in!) recreating my design :D, can't wait to see a physical version!
  23. Something I’d like to see more of (instead of than better builds or even no builds) are BP with two sides to them. One example that sticks out to me is the Endor one a few years back. It contained two rebel troopers and two imperial troops too. If I remember correctly, that set also had decent builds in it too: a speeder bike and a small tree. I think sets such as this are what battle packs should be. without two sides, you can’t really call it a ‘battle’ pack. I admit this isn’t so good for army-building, but for a child wanting to have a pocket-money-friendly battle (which is the whole point of these small sets) it’s perfect IMO.
  24. As I said on Flickr, wonderful model :D. Defiantly recognisable as your own style. I found a picture similar to the one you described, is this it?: http://roen911.deviantart.com/art/RZ-1-A-wing-interceptor-down-581922908
