Absolutely amazing! I think I almost (almost!) prefer this class of ship to the star destroyer, just seems more believable to have a fleet of smaller craft rather than having countless gargantuan ships... Anyhow you've definitely done the ship justice, particularly the engine area, loving the angles there. All it needs now is a trio of interceptors between the mandibles to take down those pesky rebel transports!
-
I'm glad they did this too. In fact all the figures in the most recent rebel battle pack (and the anonymous 'rebel troopers' in the actual sets) are based of characters named in the visual dictionary. Pretty cool. But it then seems odd that they would mix and match the pilots helmets and faces, at least with the U-wing pilot you can put in a different face if you wanted to. What I'm surprised about though is the fact there's no Sargent Melshi (the guy Cassian was in contact with on the beach) He seems to be one of the only ones missing and he's actually named in the film!

[MOC] Imperial Cargo Shuttle Zeta-class SW 0608 "Rogue One"
Inthert replied to lpglego's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Really like the system-scale feel this has. If someone said to name the most prominent ships from rogue one this would defiantly be there so I'm surprised Lego haven't at least announced they're making set of this, seems like a no-brainer to me. Anyway with models like this who needs an official set? I think it would be better in Dark grey but others have pointed that out already so I wont dwell on that. I just love those teeny tiny feet it has, and the fact they vaguely look like little legs make it even better IMO :D All in all a great build of a badly needed ship in Lego from! Apologies for double posting (and about something not totally related to the original model no less) but I'm curious as to where you found this excellent reference pic. I know it comes form the visual dictionary (which I have a hard copy of) but I haven't been able to find a digital version anywhere.- 30 replies

Beautiful build! (even if do say so myself :P) I love the photography though, you managed to get it looking much cleaner than I could back when I took the original pictures. Looks great, I'm glad you shared it. And the original yellow fig (intentional or not) is a nice touch :)

looks like a great start so far, can't wait to see how it turns out! Just got the visual dictionary yesterday, can't recommend it enough, I find it to be much more in-depth compared to the other visual dictionary-type books (both in terms of the characters (background and main) and the ships). And as @General Hux said it has a great 2 page spread of a Cross-section. Correction: just checked it actually has two double page spreads about it and the same for the U-wing. so yeah a worth while resource if you can get it ;) Funny you should mention it looks like the first order transporter. I'm almost certain (though I haven't heard any SW official give conformation) that the FO transporter entrance-ramp film set was actually repurposed for use in this film. This is most noticeable in some of the leaked images which clearly show the mount for the search light still in place atop the sloped area where cargo shuttle's cockpit should be: But back to your build, the only thing I can see that you might want to think about changing is the current location of the forward or rear not sure which way's which atm) landing gear, as far as I can tell it should be situated a little further forward in the grey not the orange section. But apart form that it looks pretty spot on!

blbills, Love the use of blue flex tubing doubling as part of the colour scheme looks great! Thomty, you could have used my instructions over on Flickr to fill in the gaps as it were, but it seems you managed perfectly well without them, it looks fab! blbills, Thomty, Wow! A very welcome surprise to see that not one but two grey versions are flying around somewhere! I have to say they look so much better in that colour scheme (I've always held a greater interest for the non-main character pilots in films anyway) Just wanted to say thanks for making them and I hope you enjoy! All we need now is FTG Prime to make one (he showed an interest above) then we'll have ourselves a squadron :D P.S. hope the wing mechanism isn't too flimsy, after taking photos for the instructions mine never quite worked the same :/ Thanks for the interest in the model. As blbills said you have him to thank for the LXF

Thanks!

Love the look of this! Great to see yet another fresh approach for the nose carried out so well. Having the nosecone in line with the middle of the ship really goes along way to making it look like the real thing. Not to mention the use of the official Lego cockpit which keeps looking better and better the more mocs I see it used in. My one and only complaint though, (and forgive me if someone else already pointed this out) is the underside, compared to the smooth and clean lines of the rest of the model it seems a tad messy. That said If I can ever bring myself to make another version of my own X-wing (which is more than likely lets be honest!), I'll be sure to take a closer look at how you achieved your nose solution (if that's okay ) Overall I can't to see this in real bricks, I reckon it will look stunning!

So sorry for this late reply, I must have missed your post somehow. Great to hear you built it, thanks so much! I'll add a note where I posted the file so others are aware of it. Thanks for letting me know.

Ahhaha! I hope you have as much fun as I did when I built it (and then rebuilt it for the instructions)

UPDATE: Full instructions are now avalible on Flickr and Brickshelf. Enjoy! T-65 X-wing: V2 (instructions – Page 1) by Inthert, on Flickr

I'm pretty sure I received some extra extra parts (i.e. parts that you wouldn't expect to have a backup of) in my recent U-wing purchase. The one that stuck out the most was a second 2x2 tile with centre stud, the instructions only listed one... I guess these things happen from time to time but as someone else said you only really notice when the parts concerned are larger than your normal extras.

The one I always think of is the detachable section Lego included on the Gungan sub. As far as I know that feature hasn't been seen in any form other than the Lego set. A few other (less significant) additions/changes Lego made that I can think of: - The R2 ejection system built into a Naboo- Starfighter set (which wouldn't be possible in-universe as the top should only really leave room for his head). - The escape pod on the 4504 millennium falcon which was concealed behind a docking port. - Similarly the escape pods on the Ghost which should be docking rings only. - Yet another escape pod example: the largest engine on the twilight was also advertised as an escape pod if I remember correctly. - It might also be worth mentioning Lego's tendency to include seemingly random minifigures in some sets. Kit fisto's unexplained inclusion in Kenobi's Starfighter+ hyperdrive ring comes to mind. - And, as strider117 said, the occasional (and often very minor) addition of extra missiles or bombs to random areas of ships. That all said, often I think these changes made by Lego rarely have any significant impact on the sets, in fact I think they often improve them as toys. Its only when the inclusion of a needless play feature significantly impacts the look of the thing then things become a little irritating IMO. In the case of the republic gunship's manned/remote wing pods, I don't really see a problem. Put clones in if you want or leave them out for the sake of accuracy .

Thanks so much! Thanks!

Well, I've been busy! You may remember I posted a picture sometime ago, indicating I was experimenting with a 4-wide engine solution rather than 3. One thing has led to another and I'm happy to now present my new and improved X-wing design. Almost every area has been changed in someway and I think it's for the best ;) T-65 X-wing: V2 (1) by Inthert, on Flickr T-65 X-wing: V2 (2) by Inthert, on Flickr Oh yes, there's removable panels too. T-65 X-wing: V2 (cross-section 1) by Inthert, on Flickr Let me know what you think! As ever more photos are available on Flickr.

Nice! Thanks for the enthusiasm, it's okay I do nothing but make X-wing sounds when holding it :D Yeah, when I made the instructions I didn't know that part wasn't available :/ My only suggestion would be to look at the solutions on this thread: There someone kindly recreated my model digitally (in light grey) and found probably the best alternative for that part. Hope that helps, looking forward to seeing those pictures!

Thanks for posting this. It looks to me like the 1x1 plate with clip (4085) hasn't got enough clutch power on its stud to keep itself pointing downwards, which is essential for the nose to remain 'droop-less' :P You might need to try a few different 4085's (or the pieces its connected to) to find a connection with more grip. Also thinking about it, having the white 1x1 tiles on the very end of the 12x3 wedge plates might help provide more friction in that area too. Hope that all helps :)

[MOC] Incom T-65 x-wing (heavy modifications of Inthert's design)
Inthert replied to Gray_Mouser's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Hi Gary, sorry for not responding on the other thread, I've had a lot on recently. Wow! this has been worth the wait :D You've managed to improve on so many areas I hardly recognise it! The tiles on the nose look like they could be easily changed to match any individual X-wing's colour scheme, same with the wings, love the possibility of customisation there :) And you can't talk about the wings and not mention the engines! your 4-wide solution perfectly matches the slightly bulkier style of fuselage you've made. If I'm right in thinking you've managed to get the nosecone inline with the centre of the ship, you have my respect. As you probably know the nose was a stud lower than it should of been on my own, guess that was made possible by the higher fuselage, which was made essential by the engines which was caused by the side slopes.... I can see how and why you've wanted to redesign everything now ;P All in all, a truly impressive modification, its been a pleasure to see it's journey from my design to this, certainly worthy of its own thread ;) Don't suppose you could post a picture on my original thread showing the drooping? It's not an issue I've had with my physical version so I'm just curious to see what the cause of that might be :) Possible its just down to the slight differences between different brick types or clutch power but if its something wrong with the actual design I'd like to see if its something that could be improved :) I'll second that!, an amazing use of the roller skate part! :D -
Thank you! Thank you! :D You should, there are some truly impressive T-70's out there already ;) Thanks :) It's a feature I haven't seen done before so I really wanted to see if it was possible. Thanks for sharing the file and your very informative notes, I really appreciate the amount of effort you've put into it (and the T-65 for that matter) :D Thank you! I'd love to see a picture if you do end up making it :D

Although this has been up on Flickr for a good while now, I thought I might as well share it here too :) This is my version of Poe's T-70 from The Force Awakens (but of course you already knew that :P) The model features the all important S-foils, opening cockpit, functional landing gear and a working droid lift for BB-8 Poe’s T-70 X wing (1) by Inthert, on Flickr Poe’s T-70 X wing (8) by Inthert, on Flickr Poe’s T-70 X wing (9) by Inthert, on Flickr Instructions, more information and pictures are available on my Flickr page and even more pictures are now up on Brickshelf. Following a conversation on Flickr, I now appreciate that the forward fuselage isn't quite right for a T-70, this is something I'm planning on modifying when I get the time. Any other suggestions or comments are very welcome!
-
Don't resent you at all :) I'm just flattered you've both chosen my design as a starting point, I'm really looking forward to seeing the final result. I don't mind you using the topic at all, it is still an X-wing after all. I just wonder if its worth making a clearer distinction between the mod and the moc if you see what I mean. I'm not sure there's an easy way to do that without stopping the conversation here and carrying on in a different thread which seems kinda pointless. So unless you have any ideas regarding a 'clean' way to make a new topic, I'd say just carry on as you are :) As a side note, I'd like to say I'm more than happy to test out anything in real bricks or answer any questions regarding the original model if you like.

Sounds good! :) Ah I see, thanks for pointing that out. I think I'll prefer to upload it myself in that case :)

blbills has already answered your questions but your right, it is really down to the shortcomings of LDD. I look forward to seeing your modifications :) From that picture you posted, I'm surprised my model it as close as it is, thanks for sharing :) I had designed it so that flexing the sides aren't necessary, you see the two curved slopes ether side of R2 are only joined by one stud. This means you need only remove these slopes ether side of him to take him out of the X-wing. Hope that helps prevent any un-welcome damage to the ship ;)
-
I said myself the scale is off so it's not a criticism :D I think I know what you mean for the nose, sounds like a good idea to achieve a different angle. Any LDD file would be welcome, but if you want to wait until its finished and just post pictures that's absolutely fine too. Thank you for building it, and for calling it beautiful! The main problem I have with the wings are the lower ones, I've found they can sometimes work lose over time. I found some 2x2 plates with finger hinge on top grip better than others, so that might be something to consider. Also I try to open the wings by only putting pressure on the top two engines. Modifying the mechanism to be sturdier will obviously be the best way of reducing its delicateness, I just thought you might find that information helpful :) Thanks for those reference pics, I've tried to find a good selection of pictures but never found a site. And once again, thank you for building it! it makes all the trouble I had with making the instructions worth it :D So the nose is too long? ;) As I say I just went with want looked right so I'm not at all surprised its out. However, I too thought it would be too short rather than too long...
-
I'm experiencing the same trouble deciding between 4x4 or 3x3, I have to say I'm leaning on the side of 4x4 though, the attraction of internal greebling is to great :P. Sounds like some pretty critical changes to me ;) I'm intrigued as to what your plan for the nose is. I'm fully aware the scale is off in many areas, when I built it I mostly went with what looked right, not necessarily what was right if you see what I mean, very interested in what the result of your changes will be though!
