New Caesar Cinema and sneakershop (+portal) modular.
Pickbricker89 replied to SollX's topic in LEGO Town
This is great! The details in the sneaker shop are top notch. I especially like the narrower cinema. I felt the lobby was too big in the Palace Cinema set. I especially like how the second floor much feels more cozy and like a movie theatre. Great work! You've planted the idea of MODing my PC set, and you made me look up what Portal is! :) thanks! -
That's even better! Thanks so much!

(Completed) XL Detective's Office 10246
Pickbricker89 replied to theycallmemrdarko's topic in LEGO Town
I'm not usually a fan of XL MODs of modulars as they typically just end up stacking more floors or making a mirror image of the set, but this is fantastic! You expanded it while thinking outside the box (literally), and the results are brilliant! Thanks for sharing! -
[MOC] Theatre stage with modular background
Pickbricker89 replied to Campistron's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Brilliant!! I love the merging of arts and LEGO. This could be a great tool to interest younger crowds in Shakespeare - and theatre in general! You've got my vote!- 25 replies

Lego Original World Trade Center LDD (wip)
Pickbricker89 replied to zeronthegreat's topic in LEGO Town
My mind is blown. This is incredible! Do you plan on building the Alexander Calder sculpture that was between the two towers? I'm not sure the rules on posting pictures here, but search for Alexander Calder Bent Propellor. It'd go well with the other decorative elements you've got already, in my opinion. -
Ditto to the cathedral! Would love to at least see more photos of it! A cathedral is one of my long term city plans and yours looks more the style that I'm leaning toward.

Glad you got one online as I see it was on backorder by the end of the first day! It's truly a wonderful set. I'm enjoying it now before my niece and nephew have play time with it in a couple weeks. Then it will probably be repair time. Haha.

Was lucky to get the last one at my store in Birmingham, AL (USA) today. Sold out in less than an hour. I'm just now getting over the mini heart attack I had when I thought I'd missed out. Haha

Did anyone else make the connection between the white decorative chicken on top of the orange building and 2017 being the "Year of the Rooster"? It may not be on purpose, but I thought it was a clever Easter egg if so.

While I had about 75% of the bricks on hand, the most expensive brick I've come across is #3743 1x4 gear rack. I'm relatively new to BrickLink, so I probably could have found them cheaper, but I paid around $0.60USD per brick.

I'm working on this modular as my current project and I must say, it is a fun build so far. The instructions are easy to follow and there are some really fun techniques used. I'm putting in my orders for the last of the parts I need and I can't wait to get it finished. Great work!
-
Very nice! Can't wait to get a hold of the instructions if you ever make some. This is a great modular. It fits right in with the official sets.

I saw this modular a while back and just spent forever poring through threads to find it again. It's time for a new project and this has been itching in the back of my mind for a while. It's just a superbly designed and executed hospital that doesn't stick out from official modulars. Perfect for any city that doesn't want/need a mammoth hospital. I don't assume there are any LDD files for this, so I hope I can do this justice with my interpretation in the weeks to come. :) Great job!
-
Great job! It's cool that you did this without LDD. I get too distracted using it. I'd rather MOC with physical bricks, but I've never made anything to this scale! Inspiring work! I also like your use of other sets within the exhibits. I've been looking for a use for the Pirate Island elements (the skull especially because it's just so cool). Keep up the good work!

Oh I'm sorry, I thought it had been passed in the last Ideas batch, but it's exciting to know it's still under review! I hope they make something of it. If not, I'll look forward to collecting my bricks to start building. :) thanks for the response!
-
So now that this wasn't approved on Ideas, any chance we'll ever get instructions or and LDD file for this? This is one of my favorite MOCs ever; I really want it as part of my city, but I don't feel like I could reach the level of quality this has. Regardless, fantastic set. Can't wait to see what else you create.
-
Good point about not posting to Ideas. If you ever decide to sell instructions for this, I'll be first in line! Haha

This is amazing! I've never thought about an outdoor store modular, but now I want it! Have you submitted this to Ideas?

Forgive me if this has already been explained, but how would I go about ordering the sticker sheet? I had read about the mistake prior to building and STILL messed it up anyway.

Touché Brick Dangerous. I wasn't trying to be petty, and I didn't mean to add to superfluous discussion. We all know what set we're talking about here. And it is a great one! I really like the pic of the MF house, castle, and Eiffel Tower (I know those aren't the official names lol). I never realized how big the Eiffel Tower set is.
-
Its official name is 'The Disney Castle'. No Cinderella except for the references in the kitchen vignette and the glass slipper.
-
I really like the outer walls on the wood building with the shingled look. Very nice detail!

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Pickbricker89 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I could see there being some type of news agency à la Detective's Office "noir" style. Maybe combined with something else like the pool hall and barber shop in that set. I'm doubtful of the inverted corner, but LEGO has surprised me before! -
I just recently purchased the 10253 Creator Big Ben set and it is pretty freaking awesome. The detail is phenomenal and the structural integrity still surprises me. I can move it around with almost no casualties! However, I'm having major issues getting the "clock turning" feature to work. The hands move fine, albeit a little "sticky", before attaching the final module of the tower to the base, and the knob and respective gears turn smoothly on the base. Once it's all fitted in, though, it won't budge using the handle in the back. I've tried loosening the gears, making sure they're not too snug to turn, etc., but the gears in the base actually slip out of place if I try turning it too forcefully. Has anyone else had this issue yet? What I'm afraid of is that the Technic rod used in the vertical tower bit is just too long to not have any strengthening joints, so the tension of all four clock faces is too much for the small gears to distribute the force. Also, the rod in my set was slightly bent (but if you have any technic pieces of this length, you know they are somewhat bendable and can be straightened out), so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. If anyone has had this issue, I'd love to hear your solution(s) or feedback. I'm mainly curious if it's a minor design oversight or a piece defect on my end. Thank you! Note: Don't get me wrong; this set is totally worth the hype and I'm completely ecstatic over it, save for this minor bug.
