  1. Well, its time to give gifts and I couldn't decide what to get my friend, so I decided to build something instead! I was planning on a model snowman since she loves christmas so much, but I didn't have the parts and it was too late to order them. So instead I used her love of baking to make her a kitchen! I really went out of my way to use some non-traditional building techniques, try some new ideas and play around with some things that may or may not work! All that is left to do now is to glue it and present it! The kitchen I built a friend for christmas! Here we can see the little cupcakes she has made on the side by the sink Her Kitchen Aid mixer and fridge Her oven, stove, and top cupboards A closer view of the fridge doors Here she is, proudly showing off her cake!
  2. Yes, this was my favourite set as a child!! I can't wait for my childhood Lego to get over to Canada so that I can make it into a modular! :D
  3. Love the details on this! Some great ideas that you have used to make your bank fit 16-wide, which I always approve of!
  4. It's a nice building. The second floor looks like it could use a little more space in the opening so that people don't bang their heads going down the stairs! Perhaps you could use this as a space for people to play warhammer or D&D??
  5. Thanks! It looked a bit more over the top on it's own, but most of the yellow is hidden by the walls of the adjacent buildings. Thank you! Thanks. I hadn't considered that before, as I was using the base from this part of the Green Grocer building, but I think the Yellow makes the other floors seem top-heavy. Interesting idea - I might have to try adding an extra brick to the ground floor at the weekend...
  6. Thanks! If I had planned the building out in advance and ordered parts, I'd probably have made the stairs 3wide to save space, but the smaller area forced me to be a little more creative with the furniture :) If you would like to see the other 16-wide buildings, the original thread is here. Yep, the more I think about it the more a doorman/concierge desk sounds like a good idea! Thanks! I will be working on some more in the New Year, this is definitely a style i enjoy! After spending $450 to get my Green Grocer, I doubt I will be adapting the Cafe Corner any time soon! Thank you! It's always fun to tell a story while showing off a new build :) Thanks! Furniture is so much fun to make, I just wish I were a bit more creative with it lol
  7. I love it not being uniform, like you said it adds character :D
  8. Thanks! I have parts slowly rolling in for my next two, but it will be a while still before I can actually build them! Thank you! I fell in love with them myself :D It took a while mostly due to waiting on parts, time wise it was about 6-10 hours since most of the bay window was already existing, the rest was working out how to use my existing parts as much as possible. Thanks! Perhaps I will expand, but I think I might make use of the mail boxes in another building later on and add a doorman and his desk to this building instead... The roof IS a bit over the top, and I may tone it down in the future, but I like the idea of the over-zealous land-lord dressing his property up a bit much. They DID paid the whole thing bright yellow after all! Thanks! It's really salting to come together :D
  9. Forgive the flowery placemat, I can assure you it's far better than potentially scratching the Mother-In-laws table! I've been working on this building for quite some time now, it's based on the beautiful bay windows of the origional Green Grocer set. I took the existing structure, and brought the lenght out by a stud on each side to make it 16 wide. This was an easy change on the ground floor, but the other floors needed a little more work. I used some textured pieces on a whim and found that they fit quite nicely. I toyed with a few ideas for colour, but eventually settled on yellow after wondering what I could use all the pannels for from the tractor-trailer set that had been converted into the cube van. I think it worked out quite well. Most of this was made in September just after I had finished my other 16-wide modifications, but then I ran out of parts. All I needed was 12 1x1 bricks! But I was patient and waited. Recent tooth surgery prompted me to treat myself and last night they arrived! Allow me to give you a tour: Here is the new holiday apartment building! The back is a little sparse, I'm thinking of adding a small garden back here Our little friend arrives in town for his winter vacation, and heads in to check out the apartment he has rented The lobby allows visitors to get mail during their stay This first apartment is a bit more economical, just a single bed and a dresser, but perfect if you plan on spending the vacation out seeing the sights! This room is much more spacious A lovely couch, a computer to email his friends pictures he has taken, and that large bay window gives him an awesome view! And he gets a nice relaxing bed! The roof is very decorative, perhaps a little over the top? I guess they need to justify the large rent somehow! Alongside my mini green-grocer, it's a natural fit! Here is is in my 16-wide line up!
  10. I *really* like it! Makes me want to go back to my modulars and make them so that you can remove the walls too! I also really like the awning you made. I was going to make a cinema next but now I want a pizza shop!
  11. Yea, I have a few ideas floating around my head - this was the best I could come up with that didn't involve spending money :D I will improve it when I have the funds to place a new bricklink order, and when I do I will make sure to include it in my next set of pictures for you to see :)
  12. Still not back :(
  13. I've been working on a new modular, and need to order more bricks! But with a wedding coming up and a vacation and SO MUCH stuff to buy for christmas, I figured I'd keep myself busy by working on a new lorry for my town! I'm still not happy with the front, but wanted to make the whole thing without *buying* new parts! The hardest think to make was the back of the truck. i didn't like what I could make with my very limited yellow bricks, and when I worked on the loading system it just wouldn't fit. Then one quiet (ha!) afternoon I hit on the idea of hanging plates off the roof and the whole truck started to take shape! Most of the parts came from the long yellow tractor-trailer I got in january, and a few bits from the yellow sports car in the City Transport set. The yellow lorry rolls into town! Not entirely happy with the front, but limited parts and imagination caused problems :P Here is the rear view The delivery guy lowers the back loading dock this picture shows the construction of the panelling The dock and loader allow heady items to be removed directly onto a loading dock... Or lowered to street level for front-door deliveries This photo shows the construction of the side to make room for the loading dock Here he makes a delivery of gym equipment to the hotel.
  14. Isn't that large bay window awesome? I used the same technique for a MOC I've designed in LDD, just need to wait lord-knows-how-long to have the money to order the parts now :D
  15. I Love (that) Lamp!
  16. I like it! The loose ropes look great and give it a wonderful low-class gym feeling!
  17. Well, I got my two beefeaters today :D I also got a gladiator, who I didn't care for but actually looks pretty nice in person. I also got a second Lumberjack, but since he is my favourite behind the Lizard Man, I won't complain! Now I just need to get the Zoo Keeper and Gangster :D Maybe two for his awesome suit...
  18. Indeed - it has a Hammerstien Ballroom feel to it! And the Miz would have the perfect attitude to rile up a small town crowd like this :D And thanks, the Sushi Bar and Bakery was a lot of fun to design - but very hard not to make it into a dull grey building! Damn those expensive pink bricks! Thanks!
  19. Still none at Square One in Mississauga :( I only need a few more!
  20. The camper van is awesome :D
  21. Oh lord, I have tonnes of those things! I don't know what to do with them now I'm building 6-wide cars :D
  22. I love the Murphy bed!
  23. Thank you very much! I appreciate it :) I might have to use that as the street name :D
  24. The grand emporium is a great parts pack also, and has some interesting parts such as the two large windows, the 70+ dark green windows, the dark green domes, etc...
  25. I was under the impression that Lego is going to continue making the CMF's for quite a long time, they sell well so why would they stop?!?
