CHALLENGE I : Mophet town hall - the rise of a city
adde51 replied to adde51's topic in Guilds of Historica
Haha, thanks buddy! Thanks a lot man, appreciate the feedback (through the whole build)! More WIPs and trashtalk will sure follow, haha! Cheers! Glad you liked the red, thought it gave it a little more structure instead of it being just one tan build. I’ve kept that as a reocurring theme for my other builds as well. Much appreciated! Fun to actually make a bit of an ”action-scene” and think about what people (figs) would be doing IRL. Thank you! I’ve peeked a bit at @Gideons Barqa to get a feel for the architecture, but also tried to create a ”look” for Mophet so I’m glad you liked it! Thank you very much, appreciate all the feedback. I see your point about the balcony-arches as they are a bit different. Tried to tie it together with the upper most part a bit but maybe should have gone with a more consistent look all around. The workers on the lower side balconies are fine...probably...haha! Thank you for taking the time to offer your opinions, much appreciated! I see your (and others) point about the arches, I guess it was a bit of a mix between choosing a little different look for the central part as well as an unfortunate lack of the other arch-pieces, haha! The ground was a bit of a dilemma as I also thought it would look better with a little more effort put into it, but at the same time I figured a work-site would actually look more along these lines than completely finished as the building is still in progress. I do have plans to tile the whole thing and take a ”final” pic of the finished thing later on. As for the cheese slopes it was just an ”artistic choice” to give the center of the build a slightly different look. Thanks again man, and I assure you that Mophet is a city (that’s what I’m aiming for at least) on the rise, haha! Thanks a lot! And as stated above I totally get the feedback about the ground. Thanks for all your comments guys!- 23 replies

Book III - Challenge I: A Time to Rebuild

So I was able to piece together an entry too, had a lot of fun making this MOC and I hope you guys enjoy it as well. -
After the war, vast parts of Kaliphlin had been left in ruin. Not only as a result of the fighting itself, but equally significant were the diminished incomes from trade. Located along the oil road, Mophet had an ideal position between two of the largest cities in the region. Tabib D'Odo, one of the more prominent leaders of Mophet, tried to view the devastation as a chance to better the lives of the people around him. As the fighting had ceased, it was apparent that people still needed to transport goods along the oil road, and thus through Mophet. This in turn meant opportunity! Located about 1 days ride south of the Arkbri river, getting supplies to Mophet was easier compared to a lot of the other settlements along the oil road. And given his fairly good relationships with the tribes that populated the badlands, Tabib D'Odo was able to ensure safe passage for those bringing supplies and material, something which was not to be taken lightly. Something the people of Mophet never shied away from, was hard work. The climate and environment had bred a hard people, but also a stern belief that fortune favours those who are willing to work for it. To make sure the world knew that Mophet was now a place where the future looked brighter than it had in a long time, it was decided that a town hall was to be constructed. It would symbolize the spirit of the people, and act as a beacon of hope for things to come. Masons, carpenters and stonecutters from not only Mophet, but from all over Kaliphlin, all came to lend their services. Work of this nature had been hard to come by during the war, and many were thankful for the opportunity to do an honest days work, without the fear of death hanging over them. Within only a couple of months of the first groundwork being layed, the town hall of Mophet began to near it's completion. Tabib D'Odo stood on the steps of the building, the jade-coloured door to his back, and found himself at peace for the first time since the fighting had began. As one of the domes was carefully being lifted in to place, he looked across the yard - which at this point more resembled the desert than any grand beginning of any sort - and thought to himself "this is the time and the place which will mark the rise of Mophet, this will give us hope!" Ear´aba the wainwright Al-quirsan supervisin the lift Qu'ba putting the finishing touches on the dome Not all jobs are fun in the blistering desert sun... Sah'alia-rider on site So a long story, which I hope at least a few of you found some joy in. This is my entry to Challenge I over on Guilds of Historica (the theme being rebuild). I have a lot of other Mophet MOCs on the way but they are a ways away from being posted at this point. But like in the story, this is only the beginning ;) So stay tuned. Finally I'd like to thank all the other swedish AFOLs including @Gideon @Zilmrud @dalle @Wineyard and Peter S (couldn't find your tag, sorry) for feedback during this build

Working on sort of a town-hall-looking thing which will be under construction. -
Nicely done. The dragon looks good, especially like the head and claws. I just wondered if maybe something could have been added underneath the wings to sort of hide the technic parts (or maybe just angle the wings a bit differently for the shot). Great work with the base!

Thank you man! Really starting to like the dark orange, as it contrasts rather nicely with a lot of other colours . Been using it quite a bit in the MOCs I've been working on lately, been sprinkling in some tan bushes as well . -

I've seen it, but thanks! Trying to get as much info as possible but it seems pretty "unexplored" so I guess I can go nuts . I've been peeking quite a bit at Gideon's stuff so I think I got a pretty good idea of the look I'm going for. Cheers man! -

The cobblestone is a bit wierd, agreed. Had a bit of a hard time figuring out how to show the road in a contrasting way without using it though. Figured the road was there and then the sand blew in and covered some of it Thanks man! The building is progressing nicely It's been a blast joining this whole thing and building in the Kaliphlin-theme! Cheers! Good point about the tan cloth Thanks, glad you liked it! Thanks man, nice to see you here as well by the way -

Thanks for the feedback! He will probably get a few more outfits during the course of the story but I wanted him to be in his ”official” clothes when introducing him. But I see your (valid) point -
So this is a little vig I made to introduce my sig-fig in GoH. I went with sort of a cartoon-ish look for the desert (probably inspired by som old super mario that I have been playing with the kids lately, haha!). Trying to get used to the EB-forum as well so I guess this also serves as somewhat of a test to see if I am able to post something correctly (if not, feel free to correct me ). Anyways, this is Tabib D'Odo. A doctor/healer and somewhat of a religious leader in Mophet. His healing abilities and knowledge was most likely passed on to him from his father, a rather absent man who spent his life travelling throughout the world in search of knowledge (even venturing in the darker parts of Nocturnus...). Tabib D'Odo spent his youth and adolescence in the Siccus Badlands, which was a hard as one might imagine. As he got older, he earned a living on the oil road, helping transport the valuable commodity through the terrain he knew all too well. Unlike many of his comrades though, he always had a desire to do more, and he spent many night studying his father's old journals. One day while working on a transport, he and his travellers were ambushed by a band of Lerik'ai and he was injured. The rest of his companions were all killed. Close to his death, dehydrated and injured, he saw a snake wriggling past him. The snake looked at him briefly and seemed to gaze into his very soul. Tabib D'Odo gathered his last efforts and followed the snake (hoping he might be able to kill and eat the snake before his own demise) as it made its way towards some nearby rocks. Behind the rocks, Tabib D'Odo was astonished to discover a small spring in the otherwise dry desert. The water helped him survive and he finally made his way to safety. The incident with the snake made a deep impression on Tabib D'Odo and he began to believe in a higher power, with the snake as the most sacred symbol of this. Settling in Mophet - a small town to the east of Barqa, along the oil road - he was able to help the community grow as both a healer/doctor, as well as a spiritual leader. His desire to help people, of all backgrounds, helped keep Mophet somewhat safe from the otherwise harsh treatment most towns along the oil road experienced. So that's the beginning of my sig-figs story :) Hope you liked it! I got some (a lot of...) builds planned and am looking forward to exploring the world and hopefully making Mophet a more important part of it. Cheers!

Book III - Kaliphlin: Guild sign-up and Discussion
adde51 replied to Kai NRG's topic in Guilds of Historica
Since I am just getting started with GoH, and since I am planning on trying to expand and make Mophet into something interesting, I was wondering if any of you know anything about it? I have been trying to read up but there seems to be little information about it, and not a lot of builds made so far (which suits me perfectly since I am looking forward to developing it the way I want, haha!). I have found a herald made by Ska from a couple of years ago and also got some tips from @Gideon on where it is located, etc. But any additional information would be greatly appreciated. Cheers! -
Book III - Challenge I: A Time to Rebuild
adde51 replied to Rogue Angel's topic in Guilds of Historica
Just getting into GoH so this will be my first attempt at building for it, as well as (probably) participating in a challenge. Is it one single MOC/photo that will be judged or is it possible to build a scene where one can follow the rebuilding-process of a part of a town, etc? Thus making 2-3 MOCs that shows the different stages of completion and then perhaps the finished thing (of course not as WIP-pics but rather as a few finished MOCs where things are changing to show the ”real” build progress). If that makes any sense -
