Mystery Manor - Chapter Eight
Shadows replied to Dragonator's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
I'd still like to know what kind of dastardly individual would do something like this. It was perfectly good cake, it didn't deserve to be treated like that. Let's go, dragonbreath. If we run into any of your little friends, just tell them that we're a troop of Boy Scouts on a camping trip. Boy Scouts? What about ... Oh, right, I forgot! Um, tell them Max is a Cub Scout and a little short for his age, they'll buy that. Try to look younger, Max, maybe skip a little. And lose the scowl. Why do you always have to scowl when I talk to you? No, I meant the part about not all of you being ... oh forget it. Just forget it. -
The Many Adventures of the Whacker and the Walrus #5

Oh no, don't give up hope. What you saw was this: ... which is a Creator Pirate set for kids. Don't judge the whole line by that, it isn't meant to be a real set, just a hook to get a younger audience involved. The real sets, while not quite classic, are still fairly good. See for yourself. Hmmm... that ended up spammy. Oh, and welcome back. -

Someone seems to know an awful lot about that potential murder weapon sword that I don't remember either... If we're just going to stand around, I'm eating some cake, it looks delicious. -

An interesting assumption you make. I would have thought that the order of the bigwhoopdidy chronic halitosis bunch would wear red, you know, red dragon blahblah and all that. Still, it's a decent idea, and it does match my hat, so why not? *puts on a robe, checking the pockets for loose change* Now, let's go up those stairs! *whispers to everyone but John* Confidentially, I think our crazy mercenary has been here before, took off his hat to put on the silly dragon garb and left it here. Naturally, he would have another to replace it. Perhaps we should keep an eye on him... -

It's a shame Dr. Phil isn't one of those relationshipy mumbo jumbo doctors who could help you two with your hostility. *smacks Max with the khaki hat* Don't youse have no respect for the broads? *shakes violently* Who said that? -

Let's check out those robes. And steal one. It's funny, I remember Max wearing one of those in a horrible movie he did called "The Witches of Azufre", or something like that. From one dumb waiter to another. Probably poured hot oil on the pizza delivery boy. -

I've seen this movie before. *doesn't pull any levers, step on any slightly raised stones/tiles or trip on any wires while remaining penitent, ever so slightly* *puts on the hat, then remembers that he has a hat on, which he removes and replaces with this hat, after inspecting it closely, inside and out* You know, this hat looks an awful lot like the one Mr. Spencer is wearing, doesn't it? I'll leave the lamp rubbing to someone else while I look in that large chest. Uh huh... Oddly, it seems vaguely familiar, as if ... but no, it can't be. I... wonder how Mary keeps it so well dusted. Mary? Who's Mary? He's doing it again. It can't be long now. -
Very nicely done!

You're right, that is a great bell! Looking at it, I'd say the bottom is a yellow dish (utensil type, not radar) turned upside down. The body of the bell is a round 2 x 2 x 1 2/3 with dome top. Holding those together, it looks right. + + magic = Bell In this case, the magic is required to attach those parts together. I have no idea how this is done as the dome doesn't have any attachment point inside and all the ones I have feature a top stud that you can't put a bar through. Perhaps the old ones are hollow studs, which would make it easy. Otherwise, I don't know. If you figure it out, let us know!

I'm looking for blank copies of LEGO instruction backgrounds. I know I've seen them, it was probably on Brickshelf, but I can't find them now. Basically, it was like this ... ... without the set in the way. I always assumed that someone had taken a lot of time to scan, scale and hand edit real instructions, pulling out a piece from one page to fill a space on another and so on, until they had blank pictures. The only alternative is that someone leaked the real backgrounds, but I doubt that. It seems like something you could make on your own, but I've given it a few tries and they never have the same charm as the originals. I know I saw pages for Castle and Pirates, maybe Town as well, I can't remember. Anyone remember these and know where they are?

Nice review, thanks for presenting it! It looks like a pretty decent set, I sort of wish I'd picked it up now just for parts and that Snape head. I'll have to add that to my Bricklink wanted list, I guess. I was going to comment on the orange/red tone to the pictures, then I decided to take an artistic approach and call that the sun, setting on the last set of the line. It's poetic, in it's own way, huh? Or I'm crazy.

You know, saying, "old news", "we've had a thread about that" etc isn't helpful. If you can't comment on the topic, then do this ... Thank you for making a useful post to this thread. I'll merge these now.

If you could revive any one dead theme...

This is a disaster of a thread that is turning out great. Let's see... Paradisa and Adventurers are back. I'll add Wild West to that. I never owned a Wild West set, but I have lots of minifigs. -
I had no idea what that meant when I read it. I made a special trip to Google and now that I know, you owe me those 60 seconds of my life back.
-
Nah, it's actually a decent set, or it would be if it didn't depict one of the earliest disasters of the prequel trilogy. From a LEGO standpoint, they did a good job on it, put the blame were it belongs... crappy movie. That said, I bought at least 5 since they were $2 on clearance at the time. Would I do it again? Absolutely! Positives: Jedi torso, brown cape, chrome lightsaber, decent scale STAPs, clam and vegetation. Negatives: Jar Jar, creepy hair. Seriously, that hair is almost scarier than Jar Jar. Almost.

We attract an unusual number of fans of both pi and baked goods.

I see what you mean on Frankenstein's monster. Didn't realise it had gone crazy. Maybe I'll draw the torso. Someone could make a decent one out of a new torso, an orc head, and one of those Frankenstein hats (they're cheap, must have made it to Pick a Brick somewhere). As for the mummy, it's like $7 and you could fake a decent one out of Adventurer's parts in a pinch. It really was a great line.

Mystery Manor - Index and Disscusion Thread
Shadows replied to Dragonator's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
What school of classical dark and dreary castle architecture did she go to? Do you remember in Mystery Manor when we would complain that you weren't moving fast enough? No, wait. Do you remember when we were complaining about Tinypius moving too slow in Witch Hunt? Well, go slower than that. -
Actually, the beauty of the joke is that it makes fun of the 'classic' movement, the blog movement, and you, all in one shot.
-
They're worth however much you like them. In monetary terms, I think the vampire does the best, maybe $15, but most are just fairly average figures in the long run. Personally, I like them a lot and always have, to the extent that I've bought extras of most for other purposes. I think it was a great line that ended far too soon and will always wish we had a lot more classic monsters represented. Then I'd have to go get classic-brick-monsters.com and start a blog.

It isn't really the magnets, except that they caused TLG to produce the figure this way. Basically, the body and legs are glued, that's just a fact of life you won't get past. You can remove the individual legs (but not the hips) and replace them with new ones to get rid of those magnets, but you won't get the one out of the torso without hell and potential damage. They did that to keep children from swallowing them. I didn't know the helmet was glued on (just never noticed). The green clone, for example, wasn't, so I'm surprised. That said, the current magnet set with Boba isn't glued at all, if you want a quick way to pick up a new one for a decent price.

I definitely spend more, but not because I'm more interested, simply because I'm more aware. I know about exclusives, rarities, oddities, all those money consuming parts that I might not know about otherwise. As for mocs... I took the last option because clearly, it's the funniest.

Ice Bricks: now with BELVILLE magic!
Shadows replied to Siegfried's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Brilliant review! Have you considered joining the Reviewer's Academy? It looks like a good time was had by all. Using Hinck's favourite scoring method for these, his favourite types of products, I give it a 978. I still sort of want the baking brick pan. -
Is there any point in saying, "I got spammed by that guy too!" after a pile of other people have already said it? How about when the person has been banned since right after it happened? No, there isn't. So cut it out. Seriously, it's silly and it's getting old and it's going to stop here. The proper place to report spam is through the PM system. If you see that the person who spammed you is already banned, save yourself some effort and just delete it, it's over, he's gone. Otherwise, notify us and we'll take care of him. Then he's gone. See how that works? It's almost like no one here has ever experienced spam before on the internet. Since that seems to be the case, I'll give you a quick lesson in internet forum spam: Don't click any links in it. EVER. Don't buy anything from someone you don't know who offers to sell you something that you didn't ask about. Don't reply at all. Report it to us. Delete it. Move on with your life. How's that sound, everyone? Now move along, there's nothing to see here.

Looks like you've had some previous experience with a big knife and an old disturbing vegetable.
