Awesome! Not just a big diorama, but all the detail is in there too.

There are several posts on Anio's Venator thread where members have posted technics alternatives to the magnet system. -
[UCS] [WIP] [MOC] Venator Class Star Destroyer
NorvernRob replied to Ellisss_2's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Excellent, this is definitely my next project. The last outing of my Hoth diorama is in two weeks time, then I can get rid of it and make some space! -
So people can't speculate, but cryptic clues from people 'in the know' and page after page of guessing games is ok?
-
It actually looks cool with the chromed parts though. This sums up my point - the grapefruit sized ball on the right has over 1,000 parts in it, a BB8 would need a head too so it's either pitifully small, a blocky sphere or the box weight we've seen is wrong (though $90 price tag suggests not). No ways it's a UCS.
-
I find it hard to believe Lego would release a UCS BB8 with only ~1,000 parts, unless it's super blocky using larger parts and it would look awful. I built a grapefruit sized ball as an ion cannon for my Hoth display, and that had over 1,000 parts in it. Anio's BB8 has over 2,000 parts. There are 3 possible scenarios: The box weight, and hence the part count is wrong. It isn't UCS. Its the lamest UCS set ever.
-
There's no way it's a UCS set with that weight, which suggests somewhere around ~1,000 parts.

[MOC] 1: 250 Mini UCS Rebel Transport GR-75 [LDD file]
NorvernRob replied to mortesv's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I have no clue how to work LDD properly but built one anyway just following the guide. Floating parts get put to one side, and I just assemble all the sections at the end and add the loose parts. It takes a while but I get there! -
Ah yes, I never noticed until you pointed it out! It's packed away in a box, I'll correct it the next time I take it out.
-
I built it too, fantastic model! (I now have an OT A-Wing pilot in the green uniform displayed too).

I'll definitely build it too! -
Thank you! Again, thanks. I try and keep adding more detail each time I take it to a display. Haha but how does it get out of the suit? Maybe the boots have drain holes! 30,000 parts is a guess, but that's probably the minimum.

Bit of an update. I displayed this again at the Yorkshire Brick Show last weekend. Improvements I've added are 2 more snowspeeders to make 8, another X-Wing to make 3, 40 more figs, Echo Base is 16 studs longer and wider, allowing for extra bays and the control room to be extended by 16 studs. The battlefield has been extended by 40 studs, and I finished the much larger ion cannon. I built one of Mortens GR-75 transports too, its wildly out of scale with the rest but it's such a nice ship I had to include it. The whole thing is now 11 feet long, I've got a few more improvements to make before it's final outing at Bricktastic in Manchester on the 1st and 2nd July.

There's no way of fitting an interior into a 10179 without severely weakening the structure, rendering it far too weak to be a saleable model. That's unless LEGO do some kind of halfway job and just put some interior details into the available space (which isn't much), rather than a proper interior. Even if they somehow did it, you'd be looking at somewhere in excess of 6-6,500 parts, the Death Star is over 10p per part in the UK and has nowhere near the amount of large plates and technics parts the Falcon has. A Falcon with that many parts would be £650-£750 and how many would LEGO sell at that money? Surely it's going to be smaller, accurate, full interior, cockpit tunnel etc. ~5,000 parts and £500 is my guess.
-
I think this is a common misconception. Realistically, how many 'scalpers' were there buying up this set 10 years ago? It didn't even sell that well. The reason it's so expensive now is partially for the exact opposite of that, nobody or very few people were stockpiling stuff back then and those sets are far more limited in number. For recent examples of LEGO 'scalping', look at the last few retired UCS. Ewok Village, Tumbler, Red 5. They're hardly above rrp because there are so many of them around. I've been of the opinion for a while that a new Falcon will be smaller but with a full interior. It would retain a high part count but not be as expensive to produce as smaller parts are used for interiors.

Deleted.

Ah ok, I look at things from a builders point of view, not a collectors. All my boxes get stamped on and thrown in the recycling, apart from Christmas sets that I box back up each year. I BrickLinked a Falcon a while ago, and the fun is in the modifying and making it your own. I did the basic model first, and to be honest it's a bit rubbish. Massive holes and panel gaps everywhere. It's also too big for the vast majority of people to even display. My money would be on a new Falcon being smaller, but with an interior. It makes a lot more sense than re-issuing a slightly updated original, which would carry a huge price tag with all the large parts. An interior would keep up the part count, but be smaller parts and hence cheaper. Look at the modulars, assembly square is 4,000 parts for £170 or so. It would also be more practical to display and have play value.
-
Everyone keeps saying they're desperate for one, but the fact is you can go down the well trodden Bricklink path and own one for not much more than a new set would be, plus you can spread the cost and buy parts when you want. So are people really desperate for a new Falcon model, or desperate for a box? Because that's the only difference I can see.
-
No, they're just stealing Anio's and other people's designs, and BB8 isn't the first.

[UCS] [WIP] [MOC] Venator Class Star Destroyer
NorvernRob replied to Ellisss_2's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Looks fantastic, 103 studs long and only 1737 parts? That's seriously good if so. -
Thanks, I've spent the last two days extending the Echo Base so it's now 16 studs longer and wider than it was previously. This makes space for a 3rd X-Wing, control room extended to 48 studs long and more details overall. I'm also extending the battlefield by either 32 or 48 studs, depending how many plates I have left (I've used 190 16x16 and 60 8x16 plates so far!).
-
Thanks! My next display will be at the Yorkshire Brick Show on the 30th April/1st May, and hopefully BrickTastic on the 1st/2nd July if I get a place.
-
No, they're not painted. 4 are plain LBG ones and 4 with print rubbed off - the first 4 I bought last year were the ones with the Tie Fighter pattern as they were the cheapest way, but recently a couple of German Bricklink stores have listed hundreds of plain ones for a very reasonable price (under £3 each). They're still available now as far as I'm aware.

It's actually just primer. I primed the wedges, then realised it was virtually a perfect match so didn't bother finding any paint. Obviously it's a more matt finish being primer, but it's not noticeable and you could always add a coat of lacquer if you wanted more sheen.
