  1. Cool hotrod -zenn. I tried to build a version of 'Milners Coupe' but couldn't get the wheels right now you shown us a different technique I might attempt it again. Great job!
  2. Brill Zombies. I love zombie films and all that and I'm glad Lego have made a zombie mini figure. This is such a cool vignette there's many more opportunities to make good vignette's like these featuring zombies. You're next one could be a scene out of 'Resident Evil' or 'The Walking Dead' or something like that very cool.
  3. That's a good idea I like the way there's also a gate for potential risk takers (I suppose it's locked most times and only used in case of emergency?). I also like the ways you've used the old gate/fence pieces so it could also be made in red and fit nicely with the train station 7822.
  4. Thanks for answering my questions guys. There used to be a video on you tube featuring all the 12volt sets called 'Running Late' I don't know if it's any of you folks on here but that's quiet a large layout too.
  5. Yes sorry it is the speed regulator set 7864. Ah right thanks for the replies guys, I'll try that for the lights and it's a thought but would that socket also work fro an extremely large layout?.
  6. I suppose it depends on what type of trains you are thinking of building. Possibly E bay and Brick link for complete sets from the last ten years as the pieces are more expensive brought seperatly , but if you are thinking of making 80's trains then pieces added with Lego you already have would be cheaper because 80's trains are a lot simpler and the pieces used were very common and easily available. you could always 'jazz up' the 80's trains to make them look more modern.
  7. Hi there, I have a question and i've been wondering about it ever since I first saw the 12 volt step down transformer. The question is: It has three power out puts two on the front and one on the side, now the one on the side and one of the ones on the front are for powering the track and auxiliaries (eg switches, stop lights etc.) The other one on the front is marked like this 13V~ now I understand that this symbol means A.C power does anyone know what this is meant to be used for also on some of my transformers its just marked 12V~ why? I hope that someone can shed some light on this extra output socket.
  8. I see that you have three transformers controlling the switches, how many more do you use? just another one to power the track? (four altogether).
  9. What a neat little station, and there is so much detail in it too. A good use of arches.
  10. That's awesome. I really like it in the dark and can't wait to set my tracks up, the dark was what I really noticed in the old Lego catalogues and I think it gives it a great sense of atmosphere. I can see it takes some time to set up and all the wires must be quite difficult to stop them all getting knotted together. I see you've built a BR 23 does it negotiate the switches al right it must be tight around the switch mechanicals box, I haven't got an emerald night is that the same size as the BR 23?. Fantastic work, Gareth
  11. That's a really good Train, Its a nice solid colour (you can't go wrong with red for trains) I like how you've added the stripe detail to it out of the photo, and I also like the work on the bogies and the use of SNOT on the front of it too.
  12. Great lay out, you certainly have a lot of track and a nice clear room to put it in. Is the white train converted with a 4.5v motor inside it or is it Power Functions?. The 4.5 volt lay outs always seem a lot cleaner than 12volt (when its on the floor) due to the lack of power cables, do you have the same size in 12volt too?. Gareth
  13. Hello to you all My name is Gareth and I have had Lego for as long as I remember. My favouret sets were the 12volt train '7735 Cargo train' and the set '6080 Kings castle' even though at the time I'm sure it was called 'Castle Lion'. After a long time with all my Lego being stored in my parents attic I finally got it out for my son to use and so my interest started up again, but now I was the one with the money to be able to buy any set I wanted. With looking on the internet I found sites like 'Peeron' and 'Brick factory' that have all the instruction scans so I can rebuild my old favouret set's again. I am in the process of re-constructing my 12volt train layout with a lot more trains and all the old buildings that I liked made with pieces and help from 'Brick Link'. I look forward to hearing and reading all your replies and comments on this forum, there are already so many great ideas here that I don't know where to start but I will enjoy looking. All the best, Gareth
  14. Hello every one, I started in trains back in the 80's when my parents brought me the set '7735 cargo train' for Christmas, I must have spent months playing with it. I managed to get a crossing for it and some extra track and wheels mail ordered from the Lego shop, but unfortunately the next year 9v trains arrived and I was not that impressed with them luckily my parents kept on ordering me 12v items from the Lego shop. Now 25 years on and my son and I still enjoy using the 12volt trains and with the help of brick link and brick factory I can construct all those sets I didn't get all those years ago, and more, I especially like trying to convert 9v trains to 12v. Lego trains for me is the ultimate theme for Lego and now I have found this website its set to get better, when my layout is complete I shall post some pictures up for every one to see.
  15. That's a good looking train, nice colour too, I really like the background buildings it all fits in well with each other.
  16. Fantastic. I thought that TLC would of made a set so that you just install the lights in to the 9v trains like they used to for the 12volt. It's a good idea very impressive and effective too, I always liked the look of lego trains at night all you need to do is have track side lights and the same in the station too, to recreate those old 80's catalogue pictures. Great work. Gareth
  17. Great stuff, I'm still a 12volt user too, and still collecting my set up with help from places like bricklink. I'm also in the process of converting my garage for the set up, using most of the old 80's town buildings too just to add a bit more of a nostalgic look to it. That way it would give me plenty of room and the use of tables I could create different levels, so the use of bridges and slopes/banks could come in to it. Thinking about adding the new Power Functions also that would broaden the scope a bit. When it's all complete i'll post lots of pictures.
